“A Born Retriever,” a story about Riggins- an all-American family dog, who’s better known for napping than hunting. One day, his owners figured out he actually could be a duck dog when he sprints towards fireworks instead of away from them. With time winding down, Riggin's family tries to train him up to be ready for the end of duck season in Alabama.
Getting into duck hunting can be a challenging endeavor for several reasons. First, it requires a significant investment in both time and resources. Duck hunting often necessitates specialized gear such as decoys, blinds, calls, waders, and firearms, all of which can be quite expensive. These are things.... Ben and Riggins don't have.
Moreover, mastering the art of duck hunting demands patience, skill, and knowledge of waterfowl behavior and habitat. Beginners must learn how to identify different species of ducks, understand their flight patterns, and anticipate their movements, which can take years of experience to develop effectively.... which Ben and Riggins don't have... again. (Notice a pattern?)
Additionally, access to prime duck hunting locations can be limited and competitive. Many of the best hunting spots are on private land or in wildlife management areas that require permits or memberships to access. Securing permission to hunt on private property can be challenging for newcomers, as landowners often prioritize established relationships with seasoned hunters. Furthermore, duck hunting regulations and seasons vary by location and can be complex to navigate, requiring hunters to stay informed and compliant with constantly changing rules and restrictions.
So Riggins and Ben are going to need hunting help. Lots of it.

Retriever... it's in his name. The edge is there. It's your job to sharpen that edge. I've been duck hunting since 1990, and have been extremely fortunate to hunt over some wonderful dogs. Just remember that you get out what you put in. Training is paramount.

I enjoyed this so much! On a similar journey but trying to train a puppy pointer is a blast! I cannot wait to see the rest of this video, and what Riggings can do! There is hope for us old dogs.

My Cheyenne has two personalities: sweet, loving, attention hogging house dog - and mud slinging, volcano meets a tornado, marsh dog badass that doesn’t like to be pet while hunting and does double bird single-mouth retrieves like it’s nothing. A true born sweetheart savage and I’m very lucky to be her dad. She’ll be 7 next week and looks like she’s 3.
