Another outstanding video from this channel. Really enjoyed it. Once again, the videography and narration were excellent! I always know that when I see a notification for a new post from your channel, it's going to be outstanding. Thanks for taking us along. I hope you and Sarah have a great week and God bless!
Our first dozen or so times visiting CW, seeing A Story of A Patriot was a must. Walking around CW and seeing the places the movie was made. It made you feel as if you had transferred back in time and you were part of the scene. I always enjoyed the movie and periodically I will watch it again. Once you arrive in CW you will always want to come back and be part of the feeling of our history. Not only is CW a place but it’s also a feeling that this really did happen and it happened here. Long Live Colonial Williamsburg!!
I really enjoyed this. I used to be an usher for Colonial Williamsburg, and I've seen the film who knows how many times. After they did the film restoration a few years, they were able to get rid of a few of bloopers in the film, such as the taking out the water skier on the river while Fry and friends were enjoying the afternoon at Westover, and removing the CW bus at the end of the Duke of Gloucester Street. However, they did leave in the scene where Fry gets off his horse twice in front of the Raleigh Tavern.
Porch on Raleigh Tavern was added after they found the original foundation. My great uncle was an extra in the movie. Still visit my cousin there. She could have helped you with locations.
❤❤❤❤ I am sending you and Sarah love and sparkles from New York City! I really loved this video. I think I told you that I graduated from William And Mary and did a lot of plays in the William And Mary Theatre. and Mary theater - - three of them with Glenn Close, who was my friend. Our favorite professor was Howard Scammon. There is a close-up on him drunk and passed.out in the Raleigh Tavern scene. Yes, Howard loved to party! I loved that last voiceover by John Fry--gave me goosebumps! I hope you and your wife are having a glorious day! ❤❤❤
Great job! That was fun. I went to W&M in 1972 and graduated in '76. I worked at and then starting teaching tennis at the Williamsburg Inn during my time there. Wonderful memories. I return to Wmsbg. every several years. Feels like I must have been there during the Revolution. I watch the Story of a Patriot several times a year. Assume you've been to Westover. Thanks for doing the video.
Another educational and beautigully done acurate now and then video in Colonial Williamsburg absolutely delighted to watch a nd rewatch your videos. THANK YOU FOR THE HARD WO R K YOU R O TO MAKE THEM POSSIBLE FOR US.
Another most wonderful video. I am especially interested in George Washington and I dearly love Colonial Wiiliamsburg...thank you for your most excellent videos on these subjects.
Fantastic video Scott. I didnt realize they started showing this orientation movie at the visitor center again. Its a welcome return indeed. I loved how you did the then and now, the fading from movie to real life views were great, the attention to detail is amazing and not an easy thing to research I'm sure. AND WOW! You just added another "to-do list item" for us, we need to visit the Tuckhoe home! I haven't been there and it certainly deserves some more investigation. Thanks for all your and Sarah's efforts and especially your talents.
Enjoyed your back-trailing on the 4th - favorite film if mine since childhood- met Jack Lord in Hawaii and we talked about it (back when it showed in the theater in Merchants Square) - might I suggest Fort Monroe - Smithfield - Annapolis - and West Point NY…
Watched another great presentation. Super info on a movie I watched when I was 8 or 9 years old. Can’t wait until another story gets told. Wondering if the Jamestown story will be shown by ya’ll. Thanks for some of the very best blogs RU-vid
Love your your videos with all the extra detail you add. I believe they threw the crate through the William Pitt Store (formerly Davidson Shop) corner of Botetourt and Duke of Gloucester Street. As you mentioned. I imagine the window was rotting so they allowed it.
This was great fun! Well Done! Might you consider doing a similar episode with the iconic Perry Como Early american Xmas special from 1979? With John Wayne? I believe the whole episode is still on RU-vid
I was a student at William and Mary when the Perry Como Christmas special was filmed. A few select students from the W&M Choir were featured in some music scenes - including a guy who hammed it up mightily. He could be a bit of an attention seeker in real life, too. Have fun figuring out which guy I mean!
First saw the film in '58. Graduated in '71.. We had free passes to everything Wmsbg . So i studied in various gardens . Married in Wren Chapel. Loved my years there.
Im not exactly sure the reason why but do know over time through continued research that is conducted that they change the paint colors to match what they think the original color was thought to be. Not sure if that was the case here but could be?
Thought you might have an idea, because in older videos it was always black. Next time you're there please inquire. I won't be there until next May. Thank, Brent@@QuestCapsule
Didn't know they did a movie in Williamsburg, going to see it sometime in the next week when relatives come from CA for a visit, just moved here to Williamsburg last December and the history is one of the reasons I wanted moved here. So glad to have discovered your videos as its getting excited all over again as the reason I moved here, but been so busy I forgot about it! Also really really liked your George Washington, places he visited video and am going to try and find a copy of that diary and visit the places he visited, just like you did in your video! Excellent Scott and maybe you could talk to the folks at William and Mary and see if they'd be interested in making another movie or series depicting George Washington's visits and activities and with your knowledge and obvious interest, maybe you could direct or advise. And a relative of mine, does suggest shows and ect for the Discovery channel, so maybe Discovery would also be interested in working with W&M on some kind of series!
Thanks so much for your kind words!! So glad you are enjoying the content and hope it helps further your passion for exploring the great city! All excellent suggestions and you never know where things could at end up at!🎩
Boy howdy, this was terrific. We are still here - enjoying one more day. “Yes, tomorrow will see us on our journey.” Finally viewed the second floor of the capitol and thought of you!
