Much like Americans in WW2. Mass artillery made up for a lot of weaknesses in the infantry and armour. Similarly with use of air power. It’s a legitimate tactic but not when used to destroy civilian areas for revenge or out of frustration.

Am not a military person but it seems they took on the spirit and the tactics. There was no Russian army present there, Donbas it’s self is a majority Russian eastern part of Ukraine.
