In that Fox executives had such little faith in it, that they only gave it a $50M budget... then, chiseñed away at that budget WHILE they were already filming. As they felt that money would be better allocated elsewhere. Though, as if that wasnt enough, released it during Tax Write Off season, just to twist the knife eveb more. Then, the movie is a huge hit and all of a sudden, the same executives who were pissing all over it, had their grubby little fingers all over what they should and shoildnt do in the second one

I saw the first Joker movie and saw how Arthur Fleck was treated. Although I don't condone what he did, I understand why he did what he did. The end of the movie where the crowd of people is cheering for him shows very clearly that a lot of people relate to the Joker and I'm sure many people in general have been treated like shit by today's society. Never underestimate anyone who feels that they have nothing left to lose. It always turns out badly.

I recall seeing an interview with Todd Phillips and when asked why he wanted to move away from comedies and into a movie like this, his response was something akin to how he cant make the comedies that he wants to anymore, as movies like Old School and the Hangover qould never get released today, so Joker was his love letter to Hollywood's regulatory process.
