I was the lead software engineer on Topo, and I don't recall that we ever had any real provision for additional sensors -- certainly not in the user manual. Not sure that it was me, but in addition to the Topo singing quartet, we had four Topos do a rudimentary square dance -- challenging on both to keep all the Topos in sync. A correction -- because the wheels were canted, their effective radius was quite large, and that's where the stability came from. BTW, you have a ton of details in here that I don't remember, not sure if I knew of them when I was there.

Thank you for making the absolute best video on this! I remember being a kid in the 90's and getting this 80's book from the library called "A Robot In Every Home" and being absolutely fascinated by what TOPO could be, and even seeing it now it's still really cool. It sucks though that so much of the software is gone, especially the Axlon Andy stuff, you would think with 2000+ units released someone would have kept the disks! Anyway thank you for keeping the robot community alive, and looking forward to more cool videos about them!

As a vintage robot enthusiast, it's nice to see proper video about the history of one oft he more iconic yet mysterious robots commonly seen in 1980s books on the subject.

A very interesting video on a bunch of adorably vintage robots. It really puts into perspective all that Nolan was doing while PTT was losing.

I was wondering what that that strange looking robot was next to Nolan. These things look really cool not gonna lie. The way the robots looked gives off that certain acetic. Plus, it's fascinating to see how they worked back then, considering technology was limited. Very nice video!

Imagine what could be done now with modern sensor tech, such as LIDAR; plus modern CPUs and AI. As a kid in the 80's I was fascinated by the potential of Androbots. Obviously, they were over-hyped in regard to their capabilities but I wish someone would try a modern take on the concept. Thanks for the video!

Honestly, I knew of Topo from cover of magazines. I wanted one too expensive. My parents felt Omnibot was too expensive . I got dingbot then verbot then while adult Omnibot. I had Omnibot 2000 briefly and resold for profit no remote. Then, Trendmasters B9 2ft tall no remote and flipped it for profit. Topo was very expensive back in the day.

It would be great if there were measurements for the shell and parts; I’d want to try 3D print my own TOPO and program it with modern software
