The Story Of Blackburn Olympic FC
Tonight I do a video that I have been wanting to do for awhile which is about Blackburn Olympic F.C. I have known about this club for awhile now and yes there were two major clubs in Blackburn at one point, it hasn't always been Blackburn Rovers. The "Light Blues" as they were called existed from 1878 to 1889 and were quite successful given their amateur status.

Wow! Never heard of Blackburn Olympic FC. Loved the old team picture. Love the Tash and vacate look. The lad in the hat must’ve passed it down to Mick Hucknell

I think the lad with the hat on was the goalkeeper.

Greetings! While researching my family tree I have uncovered that my great-great grandfather, Thomas Livesey, worked at the Cherry Tree Foundry and played for the Blackburn Olympics. The family story is that he didn't play in the FA cup final because his employer wouldn't allow him to play in the game. I have a newspaper clipping with photo of his team in which the other players are wearing shirts that are darker on the leftside and lighter on the rightside, whereas Thomas is wearing a white shirt. The photo has been attached to an article entitled "Historic medal may fetch up to L6000. Blackburn FA cup winner's award to be auctioned off" (written by Andrew Taylor). I wonder if you have run across Thomas in your research, if the two-toned uniforms are Blackburn Olympic, and who the Livesey trophy is named after. Thanks for producing your video and thanks for any indo about my great-great grandfather's playing days.

Thanks for sharing your story. I wouldn't have all the records and findings for that type of thing. I get most of the information from Google but I am not a historian or anything like that.

Thanks for this as others have said we only knew of Blackburn Olympic via stat books, I was of the assumption that they changed the name to Rovers ... Thanks to you, you have put me right!.

Brilliant video. I had heard of Blackburn Olympic and knew they won the FA Cup but presumed they were a club that later became Blackburn Rovers. Now I know different

Nice account of a club I had only ever seen in the record books but knew nothing of. Who knew that their star player from the FA Cup winning team was my namesake and an England International! My club (Hibs) also gets a wee mention so I personally really enjoyed that! Love the history of the old grounds, not sure how many more of these you can do.

Thanks for watching the video. I think you are the first Hibbies fan to comment on the channel. There are plenty of old grounds still to cover, then you have grounds in Germany, France, Spain etc that I could do.

I’m a Rovers fan and I’ve always thought it would be pretty cool if I was able to get a Blackburn Olympic shirt made with their logo and colours on it but I’m not sure what the best course of action would be for that. I’ve found the logo but I’m not entirely sure of what the shade of blue would be. You said light blue, is like maybe slightly darker than Man Cities sky blue?

From pictures I have seen, it is a sky blue, like Manchester City or Coventry. Thanks for watching the video.

Training trips to Blackpool and time off work! Even then money was corrupting the game! Seriously though, what a shame to loose that pub. Really interesting story
