Brian David Mitchell became a religious fundamentalist, began calling himself Emmanuel, and believed himself to be a prophet of God. With his wife, Wanda Barzee, as his disciple, he went on a quest to get his house in order for the upcoming apocalypse. He was going to need help and those helpers were not going to be willing participants.

Elizabeth’s concern for her little sister is truly brave, only for her sister to be awake and trying to help her as soon as she could. Truly heartwarming to see their care for one another, especially since her sister remembering Brian’s voice is what eventually brought Elizabeth back to her family. So glad that occasionally these things can have a happy ending.

Elizabeth sounds like *she might be* an evil young girl herself. She is smart and talkative enough to ask to die slightly into the woods so her body is found but not smart enough to show a detective her face in public to save herself. She asks what will happen to her captors when she is separated and questioned by police, but how do we know that isn’t because she cared about them? That she ratted them out because she knew it was time to detach or she’d be exposed too? She mentions her cousin to the maniac because they are best friends? Not because she was offering up another “victim” for him? Too many gray areas. She also recovers so quick and becomes a religious fanatic herself, missionary. She also works around “child safety”. Someone investigate and triple check this woman.

Wow I bet the kidnapper would be proud if he saw this comment which he wouldn't. But do you even know her? Do you know what she's like in real life? @evilchildren1102
@evilchildren1102 2 года назад
@@lsixty30 Something to note, he *knew* where her family lived, where her little sister went to school, things that were used as leverage to keep her in line. Even if she had run off, he could always go after her sister and god only knows what he'd do and how far he'd go then. On top of that, he was known to be violent and demanding. It's no wonder she was afraid to get help, he still had ways to get to her. No, she's not evil. Abuse and sexual assault does not mean the victim will become an abuser themselves, and to say so is abhorrent and an insult to victims of prior abuse (myself included). And it's very easy to say in hindsight that she should've done this or could've left at this time, but you have the good fortune of not having to experience the trauma of being kidnapped, raped, threatened, humiliated, and abused for years. So you, in good conscience and absolute certainty, cannot speculate on what you don't know or understand. She's a victim and that's the extent of her role in this heinous crime. Instead of nitpicking for straws to find her culpable, how about you spend your time reflecting on why you feel the need to demonize a little girl for doing what she could to survive? Let's also not forget that this man's admitted to threatening her family too if she tried to run. So her options at the time were "Run and get my family killed" or "Stay and hope my family finds me". But sure, let's chalk it up to her secretly being evil and putting herself in that situation (for what reason?). If she intentionally left, why would she run? She wouldn't. If she was setting him up, why wouldn't she implicate his wife of the same severity? A guilty person would do everything to deflect blame onto as many other people as they can. If she was so "smart", why did she ask to die and not just run? She wasn't asking to die. She was afraid that he was going to kill her. And if that were the case, she wanted her family to know where her body was so her parents weren't put through the uncertainty of what happened to her and so her body wasn't rotting alone in some unmarked grave never to be found. Again, he knew where she lived. She had no safe option. Ffs, victims can't even be left alone in normal society after escaping hell without random people wanting to make them out to be the bad guy.

He hid his two kids from his first wife for two years and then when he got remarried instead of giving them to her, he put them in foster care and they were later adopted away from their mother for good? How freaking cruel. Also, the fact that the court system couldn’t do some sort of research to realize that the children had a mother and give them back to her is heartbreaking for her. Wow.

Think of it like this: a paranoid schizophrenic thinks that the government is conspiring against them and that God is commanding them. The problem is they think they are important enough as an individual for this to be true. If they live in the UK they will think the Queen is sending them orders. If they are an atheist they will think Richard Dawkins knows them personally. Do you understand how it works now?

To answer “why would you accuse your partner of abusing your children and then leave your children with him”, it’s because she just didn’t care. That’s exactly what happened to me as a child. I grew up having an abusive mother and brother and that fucks you up and gives you lifelong trauma. I’ve diagnosed cPTSD and PTSD, my mother enabled my brothers abusive behaviour so she would gaslight me, psychologically abuse me, didn’t want to parent and made me care for her and my brother, would go out and have sex with random men and leave me to fend for myself and take full responsibility for my brother when I myself was merely a child, told me constantly that I was the reason she wanted to kill herself, wanted to act like a teenager and resented my existence, and was all around pretty awful. She enabled my brothers physical and psychological abuse which included him beating me regularly, smashing my head into walls to knock me out knowing I wouldn’t hit him back, allowing him to bully me despite me just wanting left the alone, enabling his homophobia and ableism towards me, and refused to get me medical attention whenever he knocked me out where I’d have to walk 3 miles to the hospital, something that (back when my body was more physically able, my nerve damage is too severe now) took me an hour maximum to do, which would take me 2-3 hours because I was so disoriented. I had a literal concussion but was so messed up by my family that I never phoned for an ambulance because I didn’t think I was important enough and thought the NHS would laugh at me for phoning an ambulance. It’s noted in hospital records in the mid 2000’s who the cause of these regular concussions were, in case I ever reported it to the police. My biological father physically abused me at ages 9-10ish when my mother abandoned us for 18 months because she didn’t want the responsibility whilst knowing my father, her husband, was physically and sexually abusive towards her, because she didn’t actually care about our safety. Back then my brother and I were close and would protect each other, I took his beatings and have the permanent nerve damage today for that. Once our mother had custody the abuse dynamic changed to different forms of abuse and so did our relationship as siblings, where he was the golden child and I was the scapegoat. He could do whatever he wanted, but I couldn’t defend myself because I would get further abused. He was highly aware of this and took advantage of it. I can’t even celebrate my birthday after all these years because he had a huge problem with my getting more attention than him for one day, so he would ramp up his abuse by shouting and screaming at me, berating me, gaslighting me, throwing objects at me, pushing me around, telling me how worthless I am and that I deserve to die. My mother would always do a weak “don’t do that” but my brother knew she wouldn’t do anything to stop him, so he ignored her and continued. When I worked full time at 18 (my mother relied on my wages, brother didn’t work and didn’t attend high school, at age 16 he was an alcoholic throwing regular house parties) I actually worked on my birthday because I’d rather be screamed at by customers and my angry boss than deal with the abuse at home, something one of my managers was aware of because she saw the bruising around my neck and on my face. She thought I had an abuse girlfriend and I ashamedly explained it was my brother, than my mother knew and I couldn’t do anything. When I got home after the long shift on my 18th birthday I was immediately met with a barrage of abuse, screaming, spitting, throwing things at me, attempting to grab me by my hair, but I’d walked home with a friend who I worked with who lived round the corner and he shoved my brother off and punched him in the stomach, telling him to wisen up. Maybe 10 minutes later, with constant screaming at me as I ignored him and did housework (because neither him or my mother did a damn thing, I was expected to care for them full time and work full time) Police Scotland arrived to tell him he was breaching the peace with his loud music and screaming. They spotted me in the kitchen, trying to hold it together and not cry, and because I’d known the officers since my younger teen years (because unsurprisingly the cops were around my house a lot growing up because my household was so broken) they immediately recognised what was happening. They couldn’t do anything because I didn’t want to report my brothers abuse, because of some dumb loyalty I had, because “we’re faaaaaamilyyyyyyy”. That stays with you even when you cut all contact from your family. I have no contact with my biological mother or brother, the very brief contact I had was 2 days to congratulate my brother on his fatherhood and within those 2 days he reverted back to his usual behaviour of being abusive. My mother enabled this, gaslight me and told me his very clear ableism towards me for being physically disabled and bedridden, along with mentally disabled were “differences of opinion”. As per Scottish law, he committed a literal hate crime, but according to her it was just his “opinion” that I should “respect”. She got custody of us when I was 11ish. She left my father, a deeply violent man, but she abandoned us with him for 18ish months, knowing he would take his violent anger out on us, hence I have permanent nerve damage from how he used to kick me in my stomach. He would beat and räpe her, he would beat us to keep her “in line” but because she didn’t want to be a parent and didn’t want the responsibility she just left us there, knowing we’d be violently abused. The worst night was the day after Christmas where they fought, he grabbed her hair and dragged her up the stairs, he tried throwing her down the stairs, he threw heavy objects as we ran down the stairs where one of the objects missed my brother by maybe an inch, which could’ve so easily killed him. The screaming was so, so loud, but our neighbour didn’t do shit. Our neighbour was a cop… who found me under the stairs, holding an axe, protecting my brother and my dogs. They were all underneath my dogs blankets, terrified, my brother hugging into my dogs who were whining/crying, and me, at age 9-10ish, holding a fucking axe and fully committed to using it to protect us as a last line of defence. My mother had just left us there, she drove away and left us, and then left us there for a further 18 months. She was too busy partying and having sex with random men to care about our safety. Some people should never have children, my mother is definitely one of those people. She constantly blamed everything on my father when growing up but she was just as bad, if not worse in many ways, I didn’t recognise just how damaging her abuse was until talking to a therapist and being diagnosed. I myself will never have children, my childhood was just too traumatic that I can’t function as a normal human on a daily basis because my cPTSD & PTSD are that bad where they affect my every day life, and at 30 with an infertile body that is unable to carry to term anyway, I decided long ago that I don’t want children, even if I could get pregnant I wouldn’t want them. I’m good, my traumatic childhood has put me off ever having children. Thankfully I have an “adoptive” family but it hurts knowing your biological “family” treats you with such disregard, it messes you up for life. Especially when a large part of your mother’s divorce was about how physically, mentally and sexually abusive my father was, and that she happily left us there because she had such little disregard towards my life, safety and happiness. She continues to enable my brothers behaviour where he’s pretty alienated from her family because of his constant thefts, lies, manipulation, alcoholism, and temper. I have zero contact with any of them where her super judgmental sisters claim that I was “being immature”, that I’m “bitter”, and that I’m “selfish”, for putting my own safety and sanity first, and for cutting contact with my toxic family. I don’t owe them anything, I know that now, but when younger I had this sense of loyalty to the very people who abused me, and I’m glad I’m out of their crutches!

She overcame something so horrible that no one should ever have to go through, started to heal, shared her story with others, and does work to positively impact the world. They say living well is the best revenge, and I think Elizabeth is a shining example of this. She refused to let this psycho keep her down and she has flourished.

Your channel is my favorite. Even when it's cases I know about, sometimes you give details I didn't know. Very good work.

I'm an Atheist, but like many, was once a Christian, and the blasphemy and insult is palpable even now. I feel for honest Christians that sit through that interrogation, along with every other decent human being. 🤢🤮

How crazy how he treated his first two kids. Those poor kids, how bad they must feel, and how they must think when their mom didn’t keep trying for them

You know someone is truly a monster when their fellow cult members ask them to tone down the portrayals of Satan due to being too realistic.

Wow.. Wanda really got a slap on the wrist compared to him. She deserved way more than what she got. I bet she ended up living a somewhat normal life..smh. I'm glad Elizabeth was able to find some sort of peace. I saw her interviewing a victim on a different show. Interesting how things worked out for her.

the elementary school detail seems concerning. isn’t part of registering as a sex offender that you can’t be that close to kids?

did some research on Utah's laws concerning this...Utah law has no restrictions on residency, in other words, she can live where she wants, as long as she doesn't get ran out by the neighborhood

I was expecting a booming mountain man voice to come from Brian based on his looks. He sounded more like how I expected his wife to sound.

These people were so irresponsible with their kids, the nicest part of this video is when Brian put the kids up for adoption! Good for them!

Plus he said they weren't worthy to join his church and he didn't want them being adopted out to any other church members either. They just got very very lucky.

@@NikkiC777 yea they did! I would’ve felt blessed as heck to be adopted by a diff family with my sibling if we were unfortunate enough to have him as a father.. sucks cuz you can’t choose your parents! But they surely r having a much better life than if they stayed w that psycho!
