My dad worked for CF for over 20 years, my dad was a diesel mechanic . He warned the guys in the shop that it was going to happen. My dad opted to retire 2 years early because he seen what was going on. I know he was upset how the company treated the guys on the shutdown. But when i ask my dad how was it working for CF and my dad always says they were a good company to work for. He is in his late 80s living off the pension he earned while working for them in the Portland shop. All i know is i had a good life growing up, i never went without. Just sad to see how it all went down, to bad.

My Dad worked as a Teamster with them from 1985 - 2002 in Oregon. He won many awards and was a great worker. Still remember sitting on his lap in the older cabover that he let me steer around the yard when I was 3 years old. Also remember going camping and fishing with many of the CF families from Oregon growing up in the 1990s. Great people and memories

I was a driver for CF from 1997-2001. I was laid off about 6 months before they closed their doors for good. I enjoyed working there and decided if I couldn’t drive for CF then I wouldn’t drive a truck anymore period. I still have a CF hat or two in my closet.

They sure showed their gratitude to the employees and customers, just closing up with trailer still full of freight. Then along comes Com-Way, who made the drivers do EVERYTHING, not just drive. I worked for them for 4.5 months...a year too long! It's now XPO, just a different name for a shitty company. I wonder what all these happy employees think about CF now. Everyone needs to remember one thing...your employer is NOT your friend, they do NOT care about you, no matter what they 'give' you or how well they pay. They will stab you in the back in a heartbeat. Don't believe this at your own peril. You may be one of the lucky ones to get out on your terms, luck being the key word. It simply means your employer was not yet ready to screw you over and blame someone else while paying out multi-million dollar bonuses. They make you feel special so you'll work hard and feel good, but when it comes down to it, they don't give one shit about you! Don't devote yourself to a company, it's not your family. Your family will be there for you, your employer won't.

Amen! Business and emotions should never intertwine. We know this now but back then everyone was very naive, for lack of a better term. Con-way had everyone jumping through hoops as well and they also fucked every single employee from back then that built the company. So again, we know this stuff now but the world back then was a different place.

The forming of Conway as a regional carrier was double breasting, according to the master freight agreement and against union rules. Eventually, all of the Conways, "CCX, CSE, CSW, etc" worked as one large company. CF freight was sent to the non-union Conways. Thus running the union carrier CF out of business. In my humble opinion.

@@johnnym11 The purpose of the federal government: to fund a military, print and coin money, AND REGULATE INTERSTATE COMMERCE. The only one they still do is fund the military. Freight rates are at all time highs, trucking wages at all time lows, and look at the safety record of these modern companies. 2 weeks of "school" and let a guy out on public highways in a 80k pound vehicle. The purpose of regulating interstate commerce was NATIONAL SECURITY. Now our logistics are a mess.

de regulation happened because CF and other giant companies lobbied for it. Then, CF started up a Non Union trucking company and phased out the Teamster represented company. Wages adjusted for inflation have been stagnant and benefits like pensions and family medical insurance that is affordable are gone. The trucking companies created the driver shortage........ they got what they wanted...

There is a lot I could say here as A Former Driver for C.F. at CHY. Then for a short time out of Seattle Wa. From 1990 to 1997. I worked at C.F. and Remember when C.F. one Came About. I was told I would be driving C.F. one from SLC to Chy. But that was changed at the last minute. I Remember it Passing Me on the way back to Chy. I was Disappointed but Glad to see it roll by anyway. I was Fired By the Company for Not Cheating on My Logbook. I was Sold Out By the Teamsters Union. They did Not Back Me For Fallowing Federal Law. Laws that D.O.T. Officers Supervisor Said would Ticket Me and Shut Me Down if I Logged the way My Supervisor told Me To. And the Grievance Committee Upheld My "Voluntary Quit." I was Not singled out. Anyone that made full scale money was under attack and pressured to leave. To be replaced by new lower pay scale Drivers. I'm Glad Lou had a Good Career at C.F. I Did Not. But I Worked with a Bunch of Really Great Guys!!! And A Few Not so Great. Best Wishes from Montana! M.H.

this was a company produced propaganda video. I remember they forced us to watch it and document that everyone had watched it. The teamster strike in the 90's and the change from hub and spoke system was the demise. CF thought they could make more money by not hauling freight. I got laid off 6 months before they closed and left with my stock, my pension, my 401k and all of my vacation time. I had a buddy that managed there as well and he stayed several months past cleaning up his terminal and my former terminal. Towards the end it was a horrible place to work. You had to worry every day that they were coming to fire you as a manager. They quietly changed the severance plan without anyone knowing and when I left they denied my sev pay. I sued them and their attorneys told my attorney they would spend $100k to screw me out of $25k. The best part was all the asshole managers I had in the last 10 years that had retired had to go back to work as the company was not there any longer to subsidize their pension program.

I remember being parked at a truck stop in Washington state and 2 drivers (owner/operators) asking me to park my trailer as to block anyone's view as their family's came to help strip off all the decals from their trucks and the 4 company trailers they where abandoned with .... their bills not paid they delivered their loads on the following Monday while their wives tried to cut deals with the receivers to get paid and get more work so that they could still have work !!! Freightliner had built a crap load of new trucks with such crappy specs it was cheaper to destroy them as no one else wanted them !!! almost 1 billion dollars in debt .... I say thew banks are as much to blame !!! I hope those family's are doing well !!!

Jammie Price If a company like CF can last 80 years, let's see a new company last that long in America today? To much Government intrusion, It'll never happen again!

Old Lou got screwed with all the others that showed too much love & empathy for the company he should have been behind the wheel that day not that Glen guy ?? It’s strange that I don’t recall any of that from then I was a on call extra board driver for CF in those days I never heard any shop talk about this at all I never knew anyone in the company to have an motivated upbeat attitude like the people in this company film all the drivers & dock workers & Shop labor & office we’re all doom & gloom all the time no one out of the Chicago region were like the people in that video and I find it strange or maybe not that I don’t ever recall this story at all ??? The crew I worked with were not from that cut or caliber of employee !!

Why the hell does a line haul/ city tractor need a sleeper ? I thought earlier in the video the headlight bezel showed a double square headlight not round like in the CF one

E Meyer plus you need that back window do effectively position a converter dolly, I mean you can use your mirrors but a day cab is key for Line Haul
