T-Funk is the truth. I can't even imagine the feeling of doing a trick that makes John Fuckin Cardiel say holy shit that was crazy. On top of the fact that people have been skating it for 30 years and no one thought it was even possible.
Dude even the line he did with the hippie jump through under the rail at the end was sick as fuck. But yea when the OGs are like holy fuck you know some shit went down! I still don't know how the fuck they got that picture I don't see anyone taking pics in the footy no flash nothing I wonder if he went back to get the photo or if someone was there I'm missing.
I just knew this would awesome! Best thing about these old clips is you're literally watching THE guys that pushed the boundaries for all of us! Amen you gods 🙏
I have not skated China Banks since 1987. i remember a couple of times the security guards would do the "slow roll" and of course we would see them and leave before making contact. We never skated it way more mellow than these guys ha ha. I remember I had to push with all my might just to get a little backside grind with a coper on that nasty brick.
Glad thrasher did a cool doc on a spot that’s been a part of skate history for over 30 years but doesn’t really get talked about.. need more of these like this. Spots that been being skated for generations but don’t get the recognition it deserves for being such a part of history. Thanks thrasher!
I love this. I grew up skating in the Bay Area in the 90’s. The transition at China banks, is basically unskateable unless you’re a g to op level pro street skater. This documentary brought back great memories. Do a doc on hubba hideout next please!
And all of them will tell the stories of their youth to their kids over and over again. Still cant believe how far skateboarding went and the impact it created. Best thing in the world.
Thank You! Stoked everyone is enjoying it. From my early days of Think Damage video with Phil, Tim and Dan to meeting Duffy for the back tail, to filming Axel, Raney and Ronnie just a few weeks ago and everything in between... Thank you Skateboarding, thank you Thrasher and thank you SAN FRANCISCO!
Please do one of these for all the famous skate spots! The most accessible way for interested people to engage with the history of skating is thru geography! Keep this series up for all the most prolific spots, Ken Burns style !
This was weird, I was at the part where Rowan says "that was the year I was born" and I got an Instagram notification saying Rowan posted for the first time in a while. Tripped me out lol
One of my all-time favorite spots. Not that I was good, but it's a place of mystery and history. Shout out to Mike Alcantar who had some of the raddest style and Tim McKinney who is always in full send mode. Great memories. Thanks for the great edits, Schmitty!
@@TalkinSchmit Awesome! I think about the old GoSkate crew all the time and all the ridiculousness. Growing up with you guys was one of the coolest things ever. I was just telling tales to my son just last night. Stoked for your success, Schmitty. Please tell the guys Kess says hi.
I used to fly to SF for work and on my first trip, I stayed at the Hilton Financial District. I looked out my window and thought..."Is that the china banks? The actual banks are right here?" Went back to the same hotel all the time but never got to see a session, which makes sense given how rough the spot is. The giant gap Pat Duffy ollies at the end of Subtitles is right around the same place, so much crazier in person. My legs are bad and can't skate anymore but I try to still stay connected to skateboarding. EDIT: hahah, they talk about the Duffy gap. Serves me right to type a comment too early thinking they wouldn't.
What’s crazy about the skating now is so many kids are just now turning 20 and they have had some of the gnarliest skate videos ever and skaters ever to see what’s possible. Skate history is being made every day as we speak. So sick
Natas and Gonz using the same sweatshirt.... perhaps from the same session? Also, Natas' trick looks more like a fs disaster than a slash grind, but that's perhaps just the way the picture is taken.
@@waves1point0 he was the nicest guy ever.. didnt matter who you were he just wanted to sit and hang w you for a minute... best calm energy u could ever want around you... then he gets on a board and doesn't stop or fall for ten minutes...
