Wow, it's hard to believe the waves reached the lighthouse, especially with the height of the cliffs. Lovely post, very much enjoyed.

My parents were both born and raised in London. Their first house as a married couple in the early 1960s was one of the old Lloyds cottages just East of the lighthouse. They survived a winter there before that were able to get a house in Thurso. The original use of the cottages had been to maintain a watch, before the advent of radio, on shipping in the Pentland Firth on behalf of Lloyds insurance.

@@scotlandshistory - Yes that is true! Jim spent 40 years in the service . Off shore on many occasions ! He had enjoyed his work and had many hobbies ! He died in Oban last October 2023 aged 92 years!
