The movie also made warlocks look OP. Imagine a warrior-ish class for warlocks? Every time you use life drain, you become stronger in the heat of battle!
Jrey mer Nah it really wasn't. They were assassinated. For such a great character, it is anticlimactic. This death here has more meaning because he sacrifice himself to prove Gul'dan's treachery.
Nobbel, thank you for these durotan videos, you are right, no matter the altered timeline, he had only one thing on his mind, protecting his people no matter what. It'll be interesting how they portray Thrall in the 2nd movie, I mean come on, we all want the movie franchise to carry on, sure Jones didn't go lore by lore on the warcraft universe, but as a game based movies go, that was brilliant and hey I'm just gonna say it, its a better love story than twilight.
I've heard some people say, that Durotan's sacrifice in the movie was for nothing, that still Gul'dan stayed in power after the mak'gora. I haven't read the novelization, but I like to think, that without him reminding orcs of their customs, Lothar would not be allowed to walk away later and the Horde would accept the fel without question, but with seeing Durotan fall, at least some of them won't get corrupted (perhaps something to explore in possible sequel).
that duel showed gul'dan to be an ass. remember a few orcs chanting 'cheater cheater' to gul'dan during the duel? a few even dared to walk away and got killed honourless for it, showing off even more how much of an ass he is. gul'dans reign over the orcs wont last, of that im certain, all thanks to durotans sacrifice.
I gotta say though, the battle between Durotan and Gul'dan was epic. I was on the edge of my seat through most of it, even yelling "Cheat!" at one point XD I will admit though, some tears were shed when Durotan died and Draka have her life for Go'el. I really can't wait to see what the future holds for the movie franchise :D
im really excited for the sequel of the movie, cause now its the story of Thrall speaking thrall, maybe you can do his story next? that would be awesome
What? The logical order would be second movie=second war, where Thrall was about 6 years old. Than the third movie abou Thrall, than two movies about the story of warcraft 3.
Durotan's death in the Warcraft movie universe made me wanna shove salt into my eyes when I first saw it. Thank you for this fantastic series, Nobbel. But nothing can repair the hole in my heart. ;_;
fabulous story telling. better than most movies. For all those doubters, I did see tweets from people who did not know anything about WarCraft, who saw it and thought it was movie of the year so far for 2016. For me, I was looking forward to The Shannara Chronicles and WarCraft the most in 2016 and got to see them both. Say what you will about the movie but I thought that Durotan and King Lane were EXCELLENT examples of leadership and both sacrificed themselves and laid down their lives for their friends.
I loved the Durotan Book. You were right Nobbel, Christie Golden is a really good Warcraft novel writer. --Spoilers-- The only problem I have with the story is the whole spirits dieing because some nasty orcs slept in their sacred cave. The spirits of draenor were powerful, the 'elemental disasters' can attest to that. Not only where they unsucessful in defending the Seat of the Spirits from the Redwalkers, but ALL of draenor were dieing because of it. I would have much rather preferred if somehow Gul'dan was using his fel to gradually suck out the life of Draenor or something.
I finished reading the book two moons ago and i don't remember reading anything that said the redwalkers were the culprits for Draenor destruction. The spirits were already dying, the redwalkers only gave the mercy strike. That's what i could understand, at least.
Hey nobbel, just wanted to give a quick thanks for all your awesome videos, me and my friends here in sweden have all been playing alot of wow and we always argue about the lore, i always end up on top because ive been watching your videos the most, but its really funny that all the lore we know isint from playing world of warcraft, its from watching your videos, and that just shows what kind of an insperation you bring to people, so keep up the good work and let me brag to my friends a little bit more! CYA!
Hey, nobbel. I have been watching your videos for a long time. And your detailed videos have helped me get deeper into world of Warcraft as a whole. So thank you for your work, and if you could. Could you do the story for the war of the ancients. That would be awesome. Thanks again, and keep up the good work.
Nobbel, you are the only guy I go to for lore nowadays for WoW or anything related to Warcraft! Oh. If you don't mind, could you cover Griselda if you hadn't done so? The daughter to Blackhand of course.
Actually all the lore that exists for them (at least 'til Legion) is the DK starting zone and a few quests in Northrend. Now if you say about Darion Mograine, their (our xD) leader, he has a pretty interesting story to tell
Joe Murphy Hehe, yeah it would be nice, maybe when Legion comes out, they'll have some more lore there and would make for a video that lasts longer than the hearthstone videos.
I personally say that Draka is just knocked out. I mean.. running an entire Night? The knife was not high enough to pierce the Heart nor did it leave her Body. I really think she still lives. :D
Hey Nobbel! I was just thinking if you could do the story of each continent like Eastern Kindom's, Kalimdor, Northrend, Pandaria and even Outland and Draenorit would be very interesting. You could give certain points like what species and races live there or even point out and quickly cover story elements, I just thought that would be cool. Luv your Vids
So if the Legion is trying to pave the way for sargeras, who wants to destroy Azeroth, and the Old gods are trying to Corrupt Azeroth, might we get assistance from the old gods in defeating the legion?
one of the things i liked about the movie was how it held up the idea that no mater the time line key events could not be changed. Sure you could say they had to for the story but I like to think the other. As a wise leader once said, "Time is like river correcting its path agents change" Points if you know the clan leader i reference, hint its not from wow.
Could you imagine how Durotan would have been had the original director had his way? I finally see and understand the orcs and the horde from their point of view. Sadly they are still mostly lemmings.
I can only wonder what, in this universe, was causing the death of Draenor. There doesn't seem to have been a huge amount of fel magic in play, like there was on original timeline Draenor. Was Gul'dan himself just draining all the life out of the world as he personally sought his own power? Because, as little sense as that all makes overall, it's fucking badass.
i think that when Sargeras gave Gul'dan the fel magic he gave him enough to kill Draenor so that the Horde would have to invade Azeroth. Without the planet dying his plan wouldnt have worked.
Gul'dan has far more power in the movie, he opened the Dark Portal alone, while in MU he required a team of warlocks. He makes a point in this of "only I can wield the fel," which was clearly not the case in MU.
I've been playing Warcraft since Orcs and Humans. Is it bad that Nobbel's lore videos and the story in general make me want to play more than the actual expansions getting released?
Nobbel, did the book mention anything about shamanism as far as its uses and not just its practice since Drekthar is in the book? I'm just worried that they might make a change for the future movies that doesnt quite live up to the shamanistic thrall we know and just somehow give him abilities that simulate his shamanic powers, like possibly his hammer can shoot lightning or cause earth quakes?
the only thing i hated with this movie was, that they kept grommash in the background. there where several moments when grommash was just about to speak and then it cut away from him. for example after Guldan defeated Durotan in mok gora, Guldan walks past Grommash, then Grommash opens his mouth and raises his fist. and then it cuts away
Please do the lore for all the amazing legendaries in the game! :) Atiesh. Frostmourne. You've already done an amazing Ashbringer video. :D :D But, especially Atiesh.
Ok what happened to Drakthar you said he went through the portal but I cant remember seeing him in the movie and hard to believe he'd get taken out so easy.
@Nobbel87 Im wondering about the power of fel. I don't know if you have brought this up previously. Do children of creatures infused with fell magic automatically become green when they are born or do they have to become influenced "again"? Let's say everything is touched by fel, is that the end or could there be normal children after that?
Hey Nobbel, I have a quick lore question. Why are people in lore larger than players. Such as Arthas the lick King as well as Tirion is also very large. And Varion is the same way. I was wondering if there was an explanation for this
20:20 I've always wondered who it was that decided to have an orc shout, "YOU CHEAT!" Cause if it was Blizzard, then they just openly stated that Thrall cheated. And if it was Legendary...*shrug*
Not related to the video specifically, but I have a question and I have no idea where else to write it. Who would win in a battle between an Old God and a Naaru?
I'd like to see that, I don't about anyone specific but more the originations in general and how Arugal is so important to it since not alot of people probably know
Did I hear you right Nobbel87? That Drak'Thar came over with Durotan and the others? If so, does the movie adaption book state that all the Frostwolves were killed or just some of them? Surely some must have gotten away or Drek'Thar won't be around to teach Thrall to be a shaman. I also have to wonder what happens to the rest of the FrostWolves still on Dreanor. Will they all just get killed off when the portal opens again or might Ogrim warn them to run as soon as they come through (self exile from the horde instead of being exiled as in the lore)? I'd hate to think the movie people would just kill them off and forget about them (to keep things simple for the movie universe), they are by far my favorite Orc clan.
I mean our universe killed of people in the first war like fucking Games of Throne. Durotan doesn't even get an epic death like this. Compare the original lore and the movie. This is a walk in the park.
Wait, so in the movie the first war hasn't ended yet? So on Horde side it's still the first wave and then the downfall of Frostwolf clan On the Alliance side it's still the foundation of Alliance and then the Movie Ended? i am just glad they didn't rush thing actually o.O Waiting for Blu-ray edition released eta October, or just pray my nearest cinema will play it again *sigh
am i the only one that thinks durotans fight with guldan in the movie should actually be made into canon? Maybe not the whole story in this alt timeline but maybe just his fight and death at the hands of guldan.
What are Grom, Durotan, Drakka etc going to do during Legion? Has anyone even had the correct conversation with them about time travel and the events of our timeline? I remember Thrall was reluctant to divulge information to them during the questing of WoD. Surely they want to know who we are, where we come from and what happened to the main timeline versions of themselves. Staying behind on Draenor is lazy writing.
Yet the "lazy writting" is gonna happen, Blizz themselves said the alternates are staying in Draenor, at least for Legion. And no they don't know we're from an alternate future
Since there is titan/old god in imprisoned in world Azeroth, and Sargeras wanted to free him,i believe in future he will free him,and his name is Azathoth - from Lorecraft from which all old gods are named after(cthulu-cthun,Yogg-saron-Yogg-sothoth etc.). What if all Old Gods are actually one being called Azeroth/Azathoth,with Cthun being eyes,Yogg-Saron being mouth,N'zoth being face and others.. ? It is said,if you kill old gods, you destroy parts of Azeroth, and if you kill all of them,Azeroth dies..why ? because Azeroth itself is old god,and every other old god of azeroth is just part of that one creature. So i believe Sargeras will free them all and they will become one being, and i believe that Sargeras will be last boss of WoW(in the end),and boss before him will be Azeroth/Azathoth.
Come to think of it, did we get any conclusion to Drek'Thar refusing to aid the Horde during Cata (Hillsbrad)? He didn't just turn down the Forsaken, but High Warlord Cromush as well, who was following the Warchief's orders. And back in Cata, Garrosh was not a tyrant yet, but an official Warchief (even if not the best). Considering how frail Drek'Thar looked in that scene, I expected to see some Theoden kind of corruption plot where we destroy whoever has possessed him. But not that, nor any conclusion was given. Apparently he is just that old. Did Garrosh simply let him get away wth disobeying his orders? How reliable is the Frostwolf clan if they can refuse to aid the Horde? How long till the clan needs a new leader?
Didn't do it this questline yet. But isn't Drek'thar suffering from Alzheimer? Or something that resembles this illness? That would explain his fits and his senile behavior. After all, Drek'thar was already an 50 + year old Orc during the First War. In Cata, he would outlived many orcs alive, since most of them die of old age around 80 years.
We know little about the average lifespan of orcs. Many were already adults during the initial encounter with the Legion, and the Dark Portal and the Wars happened much later. Gul'dan and Ner'zhul were the first two to be contacted, and at least Grom and Durotan were already chieftains during the drinking of demon blood. In some retconned timelines, that would have put Grom well over 100 during Reign of Chaos. And we have seen that orc age matters not, as young Thrall became best friends with 50ish Grom, and became a father-figure to the much (about 20 years) older Garrosh. Drek'Thar is old, blind and needs a wheelchair. Apart from that, we know little about his condition. If he had some form of disease that makes him unfit to rule the Frostwolf, I think he would have been replaced by now. But he deliberately refused to aid the Horde because he disliked the Forsaken. And that kind of attitude doesn't bode well for the Horde.
I'm taking into account the information we have in the old manuals and the WoW RPG books. In the manulas for WCIII, it says that Thrall was in his 20's, and Grom in his early 40's. Drek'thar was supposed to be something about 60 or 70'ish in the third war. And Garrosh was not that much older than Thrall: While Thrall was 33 or something when he founded Garrosh, and if my guess is right, he still considered young to most Orcs (taked from a line in The Shattering book, in a conversation between Cairne and Thrall). An young orc with over 35 or 40 years? Yeah, maybe you're right. Maybe orcs do have a longer lifespan. Or, maybe the lore about the overrall lifespan of an orc is just a clusterfuck. D: Either way, gonna do that quest in Horde side sometime soon. Wanna see ol' Drek'thar, and that is in Hillsbrad Foothills, am i right?
Thrall was born during First War on Azeroth, and escaped Durnholde 18 years later. Garrosh was already a battle-ready young orc at the time of the First War. He, and many others, were *only* left behind because they had the pox. So, Garrosh was already around 18is when Thrall was born. Garrosh was that much older than Thrall. That is a significant age difference if we talk about a father-son like relationship in the reverse. Grom couldn't have been in his 40s during WC3. He participated in the drinking of the demon blood on Draenor (Rise of the Horde), and that was about 20 years BEFORE the First War. And Grom was already chieftain of the Warsong back then. So either he was a baby chieftain or he was already at least 18ish. Which would make him closer to 60 in WC3, if you count Thrall to be around 20ish. That is another significant age difference if we talk about best friends. And this is only if we disregard the WoD timeline, in which Grom was already an adult who had lost his mate BEFORE the drinking of the demon blood even occured. WoD Grom +40 years would be WC3 Grom. Now Drek'thar is older than Grom was. Probably close to 100.
Alright, then we simply don't know how big is the lifespan of an orc. All we know is that their bodies have incredible endurance. So much that they can remain in top condition even after their 60's. I know that Grom is WAY younger than Drek'thar, and yeah, i think that after Durotan, he was the youngest of the chieftains at the time, so probably he was in his early 20's when he became chief of the Warsong. ... Damn, son, never thought that would be so much to talk about on orcs life's span.
In the original lore, Durotan and Draka were ambushed and killed by Gul'Dan's assasins while on Azeroth. In the Warlords of Draenor story, Durotan is still alive.
Many orcs just call Draenor "world". The Frostwolves, however, call it Draenor since they lived neighboring Draenei lands, and ocasionally traded with each other. Many orcs learned a little of eredun and thus, passed some expressions and terms to orcish, as it was the world Draenor. Draka is one example of such orc, thanks to her exile, she learned some techniques for survival from the Draenei, and a little of their language, becaming some kind of ambassador or diplomat between the Frostwolves and the Draenei. Garona knows a bit of eredun too.
Uncertain, but Durotan didn't see his body when he went back to camp. My guess is still alive with other Frostwolves so he can teach Thrall about shamanism in a possible sequel.
I think the Frostwolves we see in the movie is only a warband formed by the clan's greatest warriors, led by Durotan and Orgrim themselves. The rest of the clan must be rallying at the front of the Dark Portal in Draenor, beeing led by Geyah and Drek'thar. What i'm still willing to see if they gonna corrupt Drek'thar and make him become a warlock, then renounce this demonic power and re-discover the path of a Shaman, as it was in his original lore. A shaman who got himself an redemption with the spirits would be an great teacher (and father figure) to baby Thrall.
Wait wait wait I never knew of this so form you said clearly Thraal died at child birth but use fal energy to bring him back!!!!!!??? Now the really answer is was this true in-game as cannon or not?
IIRC, Thrall is green because the exposure of the Fel orc when he still in draka belly That or Thrall's actually the illegitimate son of a Peon that Doomhammer was mistaken about. (quoted from WoW forum)
Draka went into premature labor going through the initial portal or Thrall inside her went into distress triggering his birth. He was blueish in color probably due to a lack of oxygen and he was alive but weak and dying when born. Gul'dan sucked the life force from a deer and use that to restore Thrall (and make him green skinned). He was probably hoping this act of "kindness" might make Durotan more excepting of the Fel.
This is true, but only applicable to the movie. Basically, the lore has now split into three universes: the 'true'/original WoW universe where we play in the Warcraft and World of Warcraft games, the alternate Draenor universe, and the movie universe; each of these has its own lore, and details may differ between them. So in the Warcraft movie universe, yes, Thrall is green because Gul'dan used Fel magic to give him strength and prevent him from dying seconds after being born. But this is not true for the in-game universe, where Thrall is green, from my understanding, because of second-hand exposure to Fel magic, which tainted his parents, even if they didn't drink the blood of Mannoroth.
Go'el.. Jor'el.. Kal'el... Thrall becomes the savior of Azeroth (Superman), and is weak against fel magic (Kryptonite) and hangs out with a lovely human woman (Jaina Proudmoore) .........CONFIRMED.. THRALL IS ORC SUPERMAN. (and of course every other biblical hero.. Thank you Green Jesus.)
+Malthrax, OP warrior! fury spec :P (Bobby) sure I could try, what would you like the name to be? if you want it to be Hebrew accurate, one word names usually sound better and more serious then a mix of things due to it being a very cynical society....
+DeMishMIsh Other than that, he is blackrock and his parents would have given him a name to show strength, honor, I guess maybe about the value of armor?? I dunno how to put it, or something about fire since they are forgemasters. Reply please
+Malthrax, OP warrior! fury spec :P (Bobby) rogash is not a Hebrew word "rege'sh" means emotion however. "Magen" would mean shield or defender if you want something armour related. "Loh'em" would mean warrior. "Hason" would mean tough. "Sa'ar" would mean "charge" as if in for battle, but a noun, not not as a verb, adjective given to assult weapons mostly.
