It makes him sound like somebody I'd want to avoid. Probably owns a Harley-Davidson. "His" chair. He doesn't need to see a professional, he needs to understand how property ownership works. Probably owns white sunglasses. Also, it isn't "ammon" anywhere in the USA except where there are people who don't know how to pronounce words correctly. What does this guy's company make? I need to avoid those products at all costs. Unless he makes chairs. Then I might buy one and take it to that restaurant.
Marty McFly John Good is the Senior Executive Vice President of DW Drums, one of the best, if not THE best, drum manufacturers in the world. How many endorsers DW has is impossible to list, but among them is the late great Neil Peart. But they make quality instruments!!!! So show some damn respect!!!!!!!
Imagine if he just decided to do this project so one day he could gain their trust and then just burn their entire farm down. And on a sign written in blood, there’s the words “that was my chair”
I’ve never thought of myself as someone who’d switch to DW, I really love my Pearls. But I’ve gotta give to you guys, that’s one of the most beautiful kits I’ve ever seen!
John, you made me fall in love with this kit. I can tell that the passion for the art of drum making is in you. The story touched my heart. I just retired from drumming part time in bands. 47 years of playing and I thought I was done. I must have one of these kits. Someday somehow it will be so. Thanks for stoking the fire.
What an amazing story John! I’m just getting into woodworking and made my first snare drum, but the legacy behind each log and what we make with it are so important. Thank you for sharing!
I like how he's so amazed by grafting. He's treating it like it's something incredible that hasn't been done by farmers for hundreds, if not thousands of years. My grandpa has an apple tree in his front yard which produces 6 different cultivars because of grafting. Is amazed by grafting, doesn't understand how chairs work. Amazing fellow.
Meanwhile they use very exotic woods for drums that all sound almost exactly the same. The drums are beautiful, but shell material does not influence sound as long as it's hardwood. The idea the almond sounds different than any other hardwood is almost as stupid as the guitar tonewood debate.
I could listen to John Good talk all day. I play DW drums and love the amount of pride they take in their product. Their commitment to excellence is unmatched and their Customer service is unlike any other!
Incredible story, and what a beautiful work of art these things are. And, John Good - you are one hell of a communicator. I was captivated through the entire video.
I love watching these..John is a great storyteller!! To see the process of how these amazing drums go from a tree planted in the earth to a BEAUTIFUL drum kit is an incredible journey!! Thanks for posting these!!
John, you are a passionate man. I can see that you love your art. The whole world has been blessed by your craft, and I for one am grateful for your work. Maybe some day I will be able to purchase one of those beautiful collectors edition sets. It has long been one of my dreams.
John I enjoyed the story in the whole video how you edited it. It's so great to have you get excited for the passion in the drive and the quality you stand for at DW and things never level Outta get stale always something new around the corner even if you aren't expecting it I love DW and all the best to everyone there thanks for all you do
LOVE this video. I have been a guitar player my whole life. I have a collection of about 22 high end guitars that I adore. I know that a premium instrument can inspire one to try to become one with that instrument. My young son however wanted to be a drummer. I looked 6 months to find the perfect kit for him to own and inspire him to practice on and play. Then I saw Mr. Good's video on this kit. Then I knew it had to be this kit. I bought it for him for Christmas. When he isn't doing homework or sleeping, he's on this kit. The video above resonated with him so much and he feels closer to his kit because of the history here, and the love Mr. Good has for what he creates and does every day. Thank you John for helping to forge a fire in my son. I will always be grateful to you for your passion and love for what you do! God Bless DW Drums and Mr John Good!
What an INCREDIBLE story. Always amazing to see what goes into making drums - different series, different factories, different brands. Thanks for sharing. Makes me miss being there in person and seeing it all go down. Gorgeous drums!
How can 27 people dislike this great video????? That is beyond me... I always thought DW drums were so overrated... Today, I stand corrected... What really causes my admiration is that this company pridefully hires Mexicans and trusts them to do these amazing drums... Muchas gracias DW por todo lo que hacen... I’ve always been a Pearl Drums enthusiasts but you have caused a curiosity in me to check out and one day purchase one of your DW drum sets.... Again, thank you and may God continue to bless your company and all your DW Families...
Emotional story, a beautiful piece of material, and an absolute legend of a drum shell. One day, I'll have one of these kits. Idk when.. but one day. Thanks for this story.
That is an incredible story. That’s a story I would LOVE to tell ANYONE after playing those drums for them. Not sure how much an 8-9 piece set would cost, but that would be an amazing thing to get to do. This is what sets DW apart. And the finish is magnificent. Well done, John. Well done.
I love that concept of giving back to the trees,by repurposing them and immortalizing them into instruments and furniture and verniers for exotic countertops, etcetera. Those shells are so beautiful.
Love hearing you talk Mr. Good. You are a man of a lot wisdom when it comes to the product you make, I may add, Its he Best drums out there, trust me i have tried most... Thanks for the amazing video and to your staff as well! Blessings Ricky
Can't believe you bring out this beautiful piece of art and i am still trying to save for the gorgeous Tasmanian one that is sitting in Drummers Paradise in Melbourne .... I swear you guys at DW will make my wife leave me eventually ....
WOW!!!!! I'm speechless!!! Thanx for the unique vid of amind/almond.... & I can't seem to stop lol about the guy sitting in your chair! your a funny dude Mr.CEO of DW... DRUMS Ciao & Cheers arrivederci!! much love for the crew too!!
I grew up playing Ludwig (25 years) which I loved. My current go-to is Tama (25+ years), and over the past 4-5 years have added Pearl, Sonor, Yamaha, and Gretsch to my collection. I’ve never played or owned DW, but this (almond shells) captured my attention.
DW Drums, I started playing drums at 14 after watching Song Remains the Same at a movie theatre I played until 1995 of which the last 4 years played professionally after 95 I stopped playing and just started playing again Dec 2018. I always played Ludwigs and Slingerland drums. I was leaning towards Sonor back int the day. Years later I hooked up with a 2006 collectors series kit. All I can say is amazing sound and quality. The DW hardware alone was worth the upgrade. DW drums just tune amazingly easy and sound amazing. Not putting any of the other drums down out there as I love them all but DW is definitely my choice from now on. I ordered a Purpleheart snare, and cannot wait to get that thing. Thanks to John Good and founders of DW drums, your love, and passion of the craft have been a gift to me to play DW drums and experience the quality and sound. Amazing!
Love the story very intriguing & the kit is beautiful!! I've been fortunate to be able to purchase four DW kits. As the old saying goes, if it ain't broke don't fix it. DW!!!
Hallo Mr.John Good it. is my pleasure to inform you that my DW Design Cherry Stain Drum Set is now complete 22“Bassdrum 8“10“12“ Racktoms and 14“16“and Last Button Not least the 18“to16“ ,that Iˋve been waiting for a year thank you for your tireless efforts to make better drums nice regards from Switzerland your Bruno Von arx.
one my fave drum manufactures. im just to broke to afford them after fighting with lyme disease for 20 yrs. but back when i was a teen i went to this flea market swap meet in johnstown ohio. this guy have a acme 4 pc drumset. had a really old ludwig stainless steel snare. but 3pc was acme drums on bottom it said manufactured by drum workshop. i was always proud. but i was going through a move at one time and i had 4 drumsets. my stage kit been using for on the go left piled up ready for next gig. then i had my practice kit i lugged around for practices either left at practice or set up at home. it was the acme set and a 5pc pearl. i always liked the sound them drums had so i started leaving them alone and untouched. but when i went through that move someone asked me if id sell him the drums. i did years later kicked my self cause i had found out it was early production drums dw was doing for people. i had gotten in contact with a man at keller drum shells. he gave me some of the low down :) cool guy nice and helpful. i wanted to get my shells from him and then wrap them with a veneer just also going that route the $ spent on hardware and all that goodness i just havent had the $. i picked up a electronic kit to get back to playing which yeah its helped some but its not the same as going setting up and playing a real drumkit. ive played lot kits in the past owned lots kits just never had the $ to snag up a dw kit. old band is asking me if i can get back to playing with them on new material i said all i have is the ekit which kinda isnt enough lol its a 16pc it can work for time being but not the same. they said well what kinda kit you gonna get we have this cheap pearl for like 500$ has some really crappy cracked cymbals and when i said cheap pearl i mean import series and ragged out beat up and prob warped not been taken care of drums. i said nah ima find a dw kit some how and get back to playing on them. rather spend the money on a good company who always means well. one thing i do miss is playing, writing, recording, playing shows. metal and music was my life my youtube still has some videos left from that era but also i had some deleted cause youtube said my own music some how was seen as copyright ? they never have released those videos back to my channel nor replied to my reply showing they video is evidence of my old band on stage and in studio lol. like 10 vids suspended in that list.
You never know what will happen when you try new things. Sitting in a different seat at your favorite restaurant, taking new routes on the drive home from work etc. Life's little surprises are waiting to be discovered so don't be afraid to try new things. This goes for you too John 👍
What a fascinating story - love it! Beautiful drums as always, and as distinct as I'm sure their character is...I know they'll still have that signature DW tone that no other manufacturer can provide!
Damn John I love you. I can listen to you forever. You guys just don’t make drums you create masterpieces. I wish DW had a weekly tv show lol. Thanks again for another adventure
The Problem here John, is you make so many beautiful drum kits, now I do not know which set i want to save for. I thought the Purple heart was it until I saw these guys. Absolutely stunning!!
I would love to see a kit made from Olive tree wood. The grain patterns are just Beautiful ! However being a very twisty growing tree. Finding those perfect pieces will take extra work.
This is my first, almond shells-seriously!!!The shells sound amazing a tone I’ve never experienced but pleasing to my ears. Got to have a set, going to check out prices and packages....If you haven’t seen the video of the process you really need to watch it.
@@dwdrums before this project, had anyone tried Almond as a percussive instrument? P.S. I'll say it again, that is extremely beautiful... wish I had furniture so pretty. THANK YOU !!
The connection of the farmer to their trees is a very real thing. Making beautiful products out of the wood is honestly what farmers would want. Otherwise, the wood gets burned on small farms.
The almond kit sounds fantastic, but at the end of the day, Maple shells are all you need to sound great. I just ordered a DW Collectors SSC kit and I am going back to good old fashioned maple. It's the wood that made DW famous. No disrespect to the other woods, but I have all I need with Birch and Maple.
After watching this video, I want to indulge myself. I plan to buy a pure almond kit as a self-repair present for having my right leg out of action for almost 4+ years with chronic pain syndrome in the right hip and lower spine. There were also some other events occurring making it 6 years. This is nothing compared to the plight of many poor souls all over the world and I feel guilty thinking about spending family money but I love almonds and the story has hooked me in. After 47 years as a drummer, I want the hip, spine, and abdomen damage to heal from the latest surgery. It should take 6-12 months more. This will purchase should go ahead unless I have a guilt trip about dipping into the final savings and need to help someone. It's part of my dream and I am a bit embarrassed to talk about it but I hope it encourages someone who needs to do something to heal their mind and body through music. Thanks for reading my sappy story. Cheers. P.s. You can hand a DW drum kit like this on down through the family, like a fine piano.
@@dwdrums It's from the heart and I told my son about this today. Best Wishes and thank you for elevating drums as a finely crafted instrument and including Australian sourced wood from Tasmania.
