When Dylan need to research her father for a school project her mother tells her the truth that her father was abusive and violent the part turn out to be true but it wasn't the whole truth...
When an ex patient of Adam Dylan step dad come back from Chicago we find out the real reason why the family came back and as a result Katherine through Adam out. When Adam packing he finds the note Aunt Lilly wrote and Dylan doesn't like the idea of him moving out. We find out that he never knew the whole truth also Dylan hopes that now he will tell her the truth but Adam still cover for Katherine

Katherine put a toy on a highest shelf, her little daughter went to steal it back but the shelf fell on her and she died. They adopted dylan as she looked familar to her daughter with her dark hair

Mom didn’t kill dad, but he was violent so she ran away from him. While in hiding her real daughter was crushed under an armoire trying to reach a doll Katherine had put away. She buried the body with the help of her aunt. Then she left and adopted a little girl somewhere in Eastern Europe the same age as the real Dylan.
