Frank Costanza was supposed to be the quiet father. Luckily Jerry Stiller went for it. m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1D514ldLKn4.html It's Festivus for the rest of us !
I find it funny how George's dad has a really nice head of hair. Yet George is balding. Also, for being 95, Jerry Stiller still does have a nice head of hair.
Fun thing I saw in an interview with Stiller and Alexander: Jerry did NOT want to ever have to hit Jason and Jason had to talk him into it during shoots.
For me, Jerry Stiller will forever be remembered by "Festivus for the restivus". Yes, his long career makes him far more distinguished above and beyond this small part.

Hillbilly Cat I decided to watch this clip again today for a laugh and am only seeing your comment now somehow. We just go incredibly below the belt with each other....we did have one year that got incredibly awkward. A friend was there with his girlfriend, and there was also a female friend of ours present, and we knew there had been feelings there in the past. Our host for the year pointed to the two of them and said “why the f aren’t you two dating?” It...was uncomfortable.

deadnerves there is an interview with Jason Alexander on youtube where he praises Jerry Stiller but also reveals that jerry had sometimes trouble remembering his lines, therefore the often interrupted way he delivers the lines - maybe jerry just forgot Elaine’s name here ? 😁🤣
One of the all time best episodes in my book! Franks monologue is one of the absolute best in comedy history. "Many christmasses ago I went to buy a doll for my son. I reached for the last one they had, but so did another man. As I rained blows upon him, I realized there had to be another way! what happened to the doll? It was destroyed, but outta that, a new holiday was born! A Festivus for the rest of us!!"
RIP Jerry Stiller The spirit of Festivus will never be the same without our founding father. (For those who actually celebrate it, Festivus is on December 23rd)
Two years ago, I didn't feel like putting up a tree with all the decorations, so I put up an aluminum pole and told my wife that we were celebrating Festivus. She was not very happy, but it was a conversation piece for our guests. She will not let me put up the pole anymore.
Go back go the original Festivus and hang a clock in a sack on the wall. When your spouse or the kids ask what is the significance of that, just respond, "That's for me to know."

What makes this part even better is the "I lost my train of thought" on the very next airing! Makes this part so unique and makes you feel even more bad for George! God the humor in this show was incredible...!!
I remember how people actually thought having a holiday like " Festivus " instead of Xmas was a good idea after this show aired & I didn't get it because I didn't watch TV,now that I'm retired I've watched every episode of the show & the Festivus mess is some of the funniest shit I've seen or heard in my life, absolutely brilliant writing .

Decades pass and Jerry was hilarious, so many laughs as has Ben. Must have been great for them all to have such fun and memories in all the things they created. What better way to spend your career than with your father(and son).
I love when George farther come into the dinner and plays the tape recorder. " I CAN"T READ THIS I NEED MY GLASSES? YOU DON"T NEED GLASSES YOUR JUST WEEK JUST WEAK"!! "NO NO I HATE FEASTIVUS"!!! LOL LOL!!
What's funny about the whole thing is that this is almost identical to what went on in my family when I was a kid...Except my mother would play the part of Georges dad...My older sisters would show up, (living away from home at this point), & my mother would start in on them almost immediately...innuendo, verbal abuse, telling them what they needed to be doing w/ their lives, etc. (feats of strength)...By that afternoon, one would have usually left in tears, & no one else is really talking to one another & all leave early, embarrassed uncles, aunts cousins... After one Xmas like this, none of them would come back for Xmas another year; except for my Dad's brother Conrad, who would put up w/ & ignore the shit for a free meal...By the time I was 16, my mother was really digging deep for guests; the only peaceful Xmas I remember was when my Father invited the minister from our church; my Mother didn't dare start shit in front of him!
I think it’s safe to say we have a lot of grievances about 2020 for this year’s Festivus. Sadly feats of strength have been postponed for social distancing reasons
