Joel has evolved from the GM to an actual fandom super villain. He's unstoppable

As a DM myself, I can confirm we wear wizard robes, smoke pipes, and ensure when our players get too cocky we check them.

I do wish the game will keep an actual story log on all the past story events, aka. Players' hard work and Joel's GM decisions, that had happened so far by story date. It would be quite interesting to read after every galactic session.

I love the idea of Joel, regardless of whether or not he really exists. My biggest initial complaint of Helldivers 2 was the lack of a dedicated campaign in what seems to be a really cool world. The metanarrative that Joel seems to be spinning fills that gap wonderfully and is perhaps the best implementation of the Live Service model I've seen. So, as a player, thank you, Joel, I love you so much. Now. As a Helldiver.... SCREW YOU JOEL YOU'LL NEVER WIN OUR FURY WILL KNOW NO BOUNDS IF WE MUST BURY BENEATH A MOUNTAIN OF OUR FALLEN THEN SO BE IT THE CREEK DESERVES THAT MUCH AND FAR FAR MORE WE WILL LEAVE NOTHING FOR EVEN THE BUZZARDS FOR LIBERTY FOR MANAGED DEMOCRACY FOR SUPER EARTH!!!!!!!!

I think the idea of having a Game master that is manipulating things behind the scenes is just genius. Keeps everyone guessing, keeps players on their toes, and keeps the mystery and surprises coming. Not just when a DLC or patch releases. Arrowhead is doing great things with this game.

They should reveal Joel as the Super President of Super Earth

Joel isn't really the evil mastermind, hes more like a DM from dnd he's neutral and will help both sides depending of the situation in the war

i joined after i saw what happened at malevolon creek. i just could not sit on my hands and do nothing anymore you know what i mean? felt like i had to do something so i went to my local recruiter the next day and bought a copy of the game. now i am a proud patriot who helped liberate tien kwan so we could get mechs into the hands of our allies and push back the robot menace.

I played with a dude today that was team killing us and his last message before the host kicked him was “these termicide centers are not what you think” he was legit sabotaging the war effort… So people are all about this level of immersion. For SUPEREARRRRTH!!!!!

I love how this game became a massive planet wide sensation despite only really having one trailer being dropped and yet the fact that arrowhead begged people to stop playing their game because their servers couldn’t handle the sheer weight of players is absolutely hilarious and amazing, a small game company in sweden decided to release a game that wasn’t entirely finished for about forty dollars not really expecting anything to come out of it in all honesty, only for it to blow up into essentially a world wide phenomenon, where a gaming company actually cared about its customers, a gaming company that actually valued its community, a gaming company that prioritized selling a decent game for half the price that big AAA gaming companies who’ve spent years in research and development, released a year or two well after it’s actually launch date, whilst being plagued with bugs and glitches and yet still costs about eighty to ninety dollars for the standard game, all the while either insult attacking those who play their game or support their company, or shove real world politics into our video games by creating ugly and uninteresting characters who’s entire existence is to simply push a political narrative such as the last of us 2, or even things like battlefield 1942, where it replaced the story of British special forces being sent into the alps to stop a German heavy water program to stop the Germans from obtaining nuclear weapons, with two women, or how in its opening trailer it had a woman with a prosthetic arm despite EA claiming that they were going back to their roots, when in reality it was just a push to push diversity and inclusion into a ww2 game, and again things like say race swapping a white British soldier with a black man and so after years of use and abuse the gaming community has finally gotten fed up and when a game that came out not so long ago in a time where, inflation is constantly on the rise meaning that things like disposable income is becoming harder and harder, all the while the only increase in games would either be the graphics at best or their price tags at worst, all the while games are released buggy, half finished or simply just unplayable such as battlefield 2040, call of duty ww2, fallout76 all of them costing over seventy dollars for an incomplete pile of excrement , all the while games like skull and bones are released two years after its initial release date and still costs sixty dollars, all the while the game lacks any real content as far as I’m aware and the completely uninterested player base who’s eventually gotten bored waiting for the game only to forget it even existed, all the while lacking any sort of ship boarding experience where all there is is a quick boarding animation of people swinging across some ropes and that’s about it, outside of the open sailing, half of the islands on the map are empty and you can’t even explore them, all the while, all of the NPC’s in the game are essentially the same all over the map and by that I mean, the shop keeper on one island is basically the exact same NPC from the last island that you visited, all the while things like shanties are near to non existent and whilst the combat is said to be okay, I just lacks any other kind of entertainment or experience outside of just sailing to random islands.

I think of JOEL as a neutral party. Chaotic neutral, he helps enemies but he helps us sometimes, someone impersonated Joel and spawned in a vehicle for someone and left, Joel commented saying he just wants everyone to have fun. He may just do whatever he feels like.

As a long time gm i can confirm that higher sophistication in maps and loads does in fact make the gm stronger. Attempts to subvert a gm are met with disproportionate repercussions as a point of norm. You cannot dethrone the gm. Long live democracy.

This remind a little bit of the map in For Honor, though in a pve setting. If big companies really want to go for live services I hope they are taking note.
