Created for USC/NYU Film School application and STN Film Excellence national competition.
UPDATE: Excited to say it helped me to be accepted into the USC School of Cinematic Arts and the NYU Tisch School for Film. I will be attending USC.

Great job man! You really communicated this story well! The acting was impressive, and cinematography was very effective (Including a particular scene that really stood out to me and was creatively shot) . I enjoyed the color grade. Also, the writing was on point, and you and Skyler are very good at writing dialogue which can be a difficult art to master. Sound design was great and the music tied in very well and helped progress the story. USC/NYU couldn't ask for a better application short. Nice job!

Woah. I've recently been watching a bunch of these film school applications- i'm not sure why, because I don't particularly plan on being a film student. But dude. This blew me away. I've watched so many of these applications (and I mean A LOT) and yours is- by far- the best one I've watched. I literally have goosebumps. Not gonna lie I was confused in the first half, but that didn't matter because the cinematography, music and acting was enough to keep me interested and WOAH. I am so glad I continued watching. 3:17 gave me chills. It was such an unexpected plot twist and the buildup was so powerful. Amazing job, you deserved to get into the school.

Okay, this was insanely good. I’ve been watching a lot of film applications lately (I’m a photographer but I love to watch short films and might eventually experiment with filming as well). The plot for the film and the script was really well thought out. I love the actual cinematography soooooo much. The quality of this is amazing considering it’s an application and I actually got chills.

Thanks! I desperately need new equipment lol. Also, I have been watching a few NYU/USC application videos, and yours definitely trumps all the ones I've seen so far, even accepted ones. A lot of people focus on cool shots and forced emotional scenes but you really developed a story. And you didn't force the emotions, they naturally developed. Good luck!

So I watched like two USC/NYU Submission Films a while ago and this is all RU-vid will suggest now. I loved this one. I believe it is a strong store and really well shot especially compared to a lot of films I have seen from seniors in college. It only make me think of the things I use to make at the end of high school when I was your age.

I’m a sophomore in high school and currently studying film. I want to get into a good film school, but I don’t know what I have to do to get in. Can making a Good short film be a definitive way to get in, or is there something more I have to do?

ISLAND GAMING Hi! It definitely depends on the school, but in most, if not all, cases it’s a lot more than just the short. The applications for film schools are typically very long with many elements, from essays to short stories to short films. So admission rarely depends on just the film, but having a great film definitely helps! In my experience, having an application that shows your ability to be a great student and an even better filmmaker really helps. Some schools place more emphasis on grades than others, so it really depends on the school. Hope this helps!

Brianna Seaberg Thank you so much! The one piece of advice that I heard them repeat over and over and over is that all they want to see is you tell a good story. From what they told me, they don't care if it's shot on a great camera or you lit it perfectly, the one thing they want is to see that you can tell a story. Also keep in mind that the video is just one part of the app, and all other parts are important as well. Best of luck to you!!

萧罗大卫 I believe everything in your video should be non-copywritten, but no the music doesn't have to be created by you. I used a software called Filmstro to create mine, as it's a service for non-copywritten scores. Good luck!
