Heartbreaking True Story of a little Lion cub, from the documentary Surviving The Drought "Les lionnes de la rivière de sable" www.imdb.com/title/tt1337345/ highly recommended dvd/blu-ray
I read something about this cub, the people did rescue junior as soon as this story was done. They took him to a animal hospital where they were able to give him some kind of support
Catgroove_12 M; If only that were the case...poor Junior was abandoned by the pride then eventually his mother had to leave him because he couldn’t keep up...they don’t show his death but sadly, nature is cruel 😭
Omg when he his mom tried to carry him with her mouth to ear and when he finally ate he drugged his little body to lay by his brother and the brother put his paw on his little brother, I almost cried.
@@kathrynseaton6750 Their standard answer is 'It's nature'. They make money by making commercial videos but in most cases they refuse to help in such situations. Yes, it was terribly sad to such poor little cub but few great lessons for us humans to learn from it, such as the sheer will of the cub to fight it out and the great love and affection shown by his siblings. May nature protect us all and give us wisdom to live in peace and harmony and enrich our lives.
@MARQUIS de QUEENSBURY 5.0 Yes, I agree with what you said. I just felt so sad to see the state of that little cub and also how his siblings tried their best to encourage him and cheer him up. This shows that animals too have tender heart and have emotions.
Yeah, animals care more for their own than humans for humans! See how many women abort their babies, or kill them! How many brothers and sisters hate each other, how many kids are in orphanages but guess what? Humans don't give a damn for their kind!!
Emmie Custod It was crazy when that female hugged him, they really knew he was hurting, lions are amazing animals, they have to make hard choices and leave some behind but they always are so loving as well in the time they do have together.
@@annahackett5552 they didn’t they’re actually horrible people. They wrote about abandoning the cub to die on their Facebook page. It’s really funny because Beverly Joubert was attacked by a wildebeest and they took her to get medical attention 🙄🙄
There's another video of a lion called the misfit, his mother and aunt refused to help him at all and he almost died of starvation and dehydration, he became king of his own pride I believe
S , I saw that video, I can't understand why that lion mother refuse to give milk to that baby? But in this video the mother and litters loving this paralyzed baby soomuch. It's why it is surviving.
Male Lion brothers stick together for life and are fiercely loyal to each other. They're true brother in arms. You can see that even when the mother gave up on the cub the brothers did not.
Yeah well he has a completely severed spine in case you didn't notice. I hope you shatter your spine one day so I can say "aww, he tried so hard to keep up"
@@eksine It wasn't a completely severed spine, it said in video it was a shattered pelvis. Also that last mud all, he managed to move one of his back legs a little, not much because even if his pelvis was healing. It was probably malformed now, but the fact that his leg DID move, means not the spine. and what does that have to do with her comment? No need to be rude
EXACTLY! That's what I was looking for. This shows what humans have become, these stupid film crew members will say that we won't interfere in natures doing but then what's the use of calling yourselves humans?? To get more trp and to generate more revenue, those savages used the poor little cubs helplessness as a tool.
@@Raul87549 actually there not allowed to interfere not only is it beyond dangerous if the film crew got involved in these animals life it would jeopardize the animals life if the animal became dependent on the crew it woudnt be able to hunt or others of its species might not except it the film crews always express their longing to help but they themeselevs explain better as to wjy they cant help
His brothers trying to help him up the cliff is so heartbreaking. They don’t know why this happened, or why it had to happen to junior, but they loved him and chose to support him no matter what.
Thank you for sharing with the world the your compassionate record of the steely determination of the precious paralyzed lion cub. It was heart wrenching and sobering to be reminded how very vulnerable a disable baby animal is and it's inevitable death.
Wrong , the poor little thing died. Intervention was impossible . On a human is difficult , let alone a cub that needs nutrition and to be caged to heal the bones.
Poor Little Baby Tried His Best To Keep Up. His Mother and Siblings Showed Him Love and Encouragement Despite Knowing That They Would Eventually Have To Leave Him Behind..❤😓
His efforts at walking were really hilarious at first 😂 but every joke grows old eventually and he should've stopped fooling around and started walking normally then they wouldn't have left him. I imagine that him doing this gig with his legs constantly brought his family a lot of cringe and it was really unthoughtful of him to ignore their feelings 😞 So from my vantage point he got what he deserved for being a prick.
@@haridastaorem9895 You have a misguided view of the term “loser”. He was injured during a battle, which ultimately led to his death. He fought as hard as he could, but receive little to no help from his siblings or mother and ultimately died and you call him a loser. That would be like saying a soldier who was injured in battle but received no medical attention by his or her medical staff and eventually died was a loser.
@@Whoopdido777 they did what they could to help him from the way it looks, I think they just had to acknowledge (very painfully) that he inevitably was going to die and that there was little to nothing they could do. They aren't able to provide him medical or emergency care so what do you expect? They did do what they could to make the remainder of his existence as comfortable and bearable as possible which is more than I can say about most humans
So sad to watch when his brother tried to cuddle with him omg my heart just melted idk y but I cried watching how his mom and brother tried to help him
If I was there and I was one of the crews filming this I will intervene and take the cup myself and raise it myself because I am sentimental when it comes to animals I love them all for watching this I'm going to be crying for a long time to come💔😭
Yeah, except, 1. It's VERY illegal to intervene in nature in wildlife parks such as this one. You're even made to sign legal papers saying you won't intervene and that you accept liability if you do intervene. 2. If you intervene, the lions, being close by, they'd most likely kill you as even though they had abandoned him, instinct would take over. 3. That cub is well over the age of "I don't know what you are, but I'll trust you. Cubs at that age need to be used to humans or they'll be fearful for most of their life and a threat to your own life. 4.If people found you with him, they'd take him away and have him euthanized since you need VERY SPECIFIC licenses to own wildlife and since he clearly couldn't be released into the wild and most wildlife sanctuaries wouldn't be able to give him a quality life in a pride. You'd just be delaying the inevitable. I'm sorry to say it, but sometimes, it's best to let nature take its course rather than intervene and get heart break no matter how hard you try.
@@Whatthefudgecookie its like humans cant make a shelter for animals like this to actually help since it will 100% die in nature. but when it is about profit we can cage them in zoos, no we dont intervene then. using the human law ("illegal" LOL) on animals..... just lol
@@cinqbuns No, we can't and I will explain why. That lion cub was already at the age where it trusted lions and not people. It is more humane to let the animal die naturally then take it to a strange place surrounded by strange creatures to ultimately be euthanized since they can't help it. You don't think. People can't help every single wild animal and people make it illegal to intervene with nature because if there are exceptions, who's to say people who know nothing about animals, like you, would try to help and just get yourself or others hurt. A lion at that age still has its front claws and teeth and given that he's had to drag around his body on his front legs, they're probably strong enough to give you a good few scratches. That lion was suffering, it's more humane to let it die than to try to help it and prolong suffering. A lion like that for 1. would not be accepted into a new pride and most likely be killed if tried to go to a new pride. and for 2, a lonely lion is no lion at all. Lions need companionship and to keep it locked away in a cage because no other lions will accept it is just cruel and inhumane. People like you who know nothing about nature and nothing about animals in general need to stop acting like nature is some fairytale world. Nature is cruel and harsh and that young lion got off significantly easy compared to how many animals could go. It could have been surrounded by hyenas, eaten by a crocodile, a leopard... Honestly, that lion, whether you know it or not, is food for other animals too. Taking a wild animal into captivity just because your feelings got hurt disrupts the ecosystem, so if you care about nature or ecosystem in the slightest, you'll stop acting like this ONE lion's life actually mattered. I'm sorry if it sounds harsh, but it's the sad, unfortunate truth. I love animals, but I also respect and understand nature. And with zoos... Yeah the animals in zoos have been bred in captivity. They've never seen the wild, they never will see the wild and if they got released into the wild, they would die. I don't like it personally, but there's nothing that can be done. Zoos are massive companies with too many supporters and animals to just be stopped. If all zoos to be shut down, do you have any idea how many caged animals would either be abandoned or euthanized because nobody would take them or because they would have nowhere to go? Thousands and possibly millions. It's unnecessary carnage because some people get butt hurt that some animals aren't living in nature and live a better, longer, healthier life than wild lions do. Seriously, all the zoo animals wouldn't survive in the wild, so let's not worry about them, because a large majority of them would die regardless.
@@cinqbuns I don't get this "only for profit " argument. Animals are expensive, you need proper resources to take care of them. Of course if you own a sanctuary or zoo you'd want to make some money to continue the business...
I hope you guys that have watched this are learning something from this little brave lion, that life is tough but you keep on moving forward no matter what the obstacle in life your encounter.
Joseph Wilson The other lesson here is that life is chaotic and even if you are a good person, bad things can happen to you. It’s not the situation you can control, it’s how you react to it. 9/10 of your life is decided by your reaction to things, not the things that happen to you.
I dont think you can even get that from this video since the ending was depressing. The cub kept trying but his inevitable short existence still came to an abrupt end. If anything it says if you're dealt a bad hand get ready to give up soon.
I would've have rescued the cub and given it medical attention or at least done something to alleviate the broken pelvis and them placed him in an animal sanctuary.
When you realize that lions do more for their offspring than most humans do for their own children. Poor little baby. It was heartbreaking to see him fight a vain battle.
No, lions are like people in that regard. Many human parents will do everything for the children and some will do such horrendous things you wonder how they could possibly be human in the first place. Lions too... Many will be caring and nurturing but others will, early on, abandon their cubs or even kill and eat them. There is good and bad everywhere.
Your right these people gettin in you but when a cub in a group is weak or not living other lions will eat him or any of them will but they didn’t they just left him die on his own, also in the wild it’s a fight for food that’s why they kill their cubs and stuff but they didn’t so I see where your coming from because they tried the best to help him by they figured out they couldn’t do anything.
@@Xjas12 you're a piece of s*** just honestly why you even laugh at something like death your piece of f****** trash even if it's an animal human whatever your piece of f****** trash
Xjas12 if they killed him they would eat him so the energy put in would just be food at the end. And how much energy dose it take a lion to brake it’s crippled baby’s neck. Not much one bite. They wanted it to live but knew it wouldn’t.
I know that I shouldn't look at wild animals behavior through the lens of human behavior and that its a smart choice to leave behind the ones who make the pride weaker or slower, but 😭😭 this is so damn heartbreaking and bless those brothers who tried to be compassionate and supportive of the injured cub...
People say leave him. Its part of nature. We are part of nature. Maybe we where blessed with intelligence so we can prevent unnecessary suffering of other beings.
What drives me crazy is when he was climbing his legs and tail DID move. Even just a little. He still had feeling and nerves working he couldve been rescued and probably walked again in a sanctuary but nobody wanted to intervene.
@@sylvieshuu, no they didn't. The crew left him behind as well, following the pride. The poor little soul died, why would you lie? Some say that they came back the day after, but they couldn't find him, I don't know whether or not that is true.
@@glennieluckow6659 As far as I'm aware that is the truth. I might be wrong though, and I'm sorry if that is the case. From what I heard, I thought they took him to rehab?
This little guy would have been a true king, the sheer determination he had is awe inspiring. Would have claimed a whole pride of his own. Poor guy, r.i.p little warrior.
Would have been a ‘true king’? Huh? 25-40% of them survive in the first place - roughly 1 in 3. Assuming he makes it to age 2 without a pride takeover(killing him instantly), he goes out as a nomad and potentially gets injured or killed trying to take a pride. There is zero predictability in male cubs becoming whatever a ‘true king’ is?
They could have helped him there is so much technology now they could have done something to help. And I'm sure he would have been happy not to die all alone and scared or some other animals probably ate him
@@brittanyritenour4695 Unfortunately Hyenas got junior. They consumed him alive, ostensibly beginning with his paralyzed hind-quarters. Circle of life.
This little guy should of been saved, he so wanted to live, didn't give up and displayed abundance of courage.......damn this cute cub was in a league of his own, rare, unique, brave,beautiful,......damn, he should of been saved 😯😔
Triops Breeder bullcrap buddy. We do it all the time at the Vets. Most people think that you cant fix that type of issue. Thats totally false. The reason why most people wont have their pets (for example) worked on by Animal Surgeons is because of the expense. Its very expensive for a procedure like that about 30k most oot for ending life. But that is totally untrue and a myth that animals with sever injuroes cant be worked on. Animals very similar systems as humans do.
Boondock Taint SHUT THE FUCK UP. You're fucking stupid. Do you really think this animal is just gonna be healed instantly by some vet and then it can happily return to his pride? This is nature. If you want to do something so badly about it then get off your fucking keyboard and go in the wild and do something about it. Stop bitching about it and demanding others do something you wouldn't even do yourself. Fucking clown
With a body like that, he is literally dead in the wild specially if he encounter an hyena. Can't they just take him to the zoo? since his family already abandoned him. Poor lion
He will die of his injuries, one by one hose organs will shot down. Before Long a leopard, wild dog, or hyena will sniff him out and eat him, that is Nature.
The story is, the film makers of this documentary have a policy of only intervening when an animal has been met with misfortune caused by humans. According to someone citing an interview, the film makers left the lion cub to follow the pride, and the cub was no longer at the location when they returned, so probably fell prey to hyenas or vultures. Personally, I have a different take on humans intervening. We've already so negatively impacted this species due to our own exploits, that I don't think it would worsen the situation to help injured animals on occasion.
I agree. in some extreme, sad cases as this, I think he should be adopted by a zoo or some captivity. what could it hurt to give this Lil guy a chance at even a handicapped life.
+SepherStar If they could do nothing to help him, the kindest thing would have been to shoot him after he'd been left behind. That would be preferable to just waiting, alone and helpless for a predator to get him. :(
Ok I don't get the triggered people and I see three kind 1: people who get mad for the people not stepping in. They legally cant, and it's a dangerous situation, however, after they were abandoned, there is a chance they could be captured and used for educational readons, but they were not a cub anymore, so they would have to be lucky. 2: people who are saying that you couldn't fix the cub because it was the spine. No, it was the hip, as they stated in the video. 3: people who are yelling "let nature take its course it doesn't matter" yes, nature can be cruel and we shouldn't interfere, however, there is nothing wrong with stepping in at times. We do enough damage against the environment and sometimes we have to do our best to make up for that. And that sort of view is often used by people who don't belive humans should really care about the inviroment, and that is a dangerous outlook
Gavin C just pls, take care about disabled animals :/. Medicine was made to cure animals (we are animal, and so are they). If veterinary medicine cannot cure those poor animals, then why do we make medicine and pharmacy? The doctor will know how, that’s not our job. Ok?
the people did step in after filming and was taken to a sanctuary where he received the best treatment and lots of love they placed him with another disabled orphan cub they are now inseparable
Oh Jesus! .. Bless his ever lovin heart! So heart wrenching to see and watch. Junior carried on with such grace and determination. (I'm to assume he's passed on, and is in a better place where he is able play freely out of strife and struggle at Rainbow Bridge.)
I don’t even think I can finish watching it I feel so sad his legs are bloody from dragging himself but it’s so nice to see that the other lines are helping because most the time everyone leaves you when I can’t fit in!😢😢😤❤️
I think when the pride abandoned him, the photogs could have rescued him, loaded him in their vehicle and transported him to a local animal hospital for repair of the hip, rehabilitation, then release back into the wild.
@@powderedtoastfacekillah734 um that's a bit of a dumb comment... re-introducing a male cub is easier as well, he would've been kicked out of the pride soon enough to find his own, and with the amount of willpower it had to stay alive I think it would've only been fair to save it, clearly, if the cub didn't get kicked then it would've been quite strong.
Why? Really why? Just because you are emotional over it? That's nature. And this is exactly what happens in our society too. How many time have you thought about the homeless, the diseased who have no money to pay, or during the war where people beyond repair are just left behind to die and the others just abandon the guy. During natural disaster we leave the guy who is badly injured and tend to the guy we can save. And this is nature. This is not our niche. We don't get to interfere.
@Your Uncle's Mailmam you trying too hard and actually sound dumb so if you seen a person get shot your just going to record them? They obviously could call somebody like any other situation ma'am
this is one of the saddest stories ever. you can tell the mom loves her cubs . like when they both lay down together almost looks like shes hugging him to give him comfort .
He comforts his bro that has a broken back by nuzzling. Like encouraging a dying person and telling them they “ can beat this”. You hope they’re ok but understand the odds aren’t in their favor.
Anyone see Misfit the lion cub's story? He had a limp and trouble walking after an injury but not paralyzed. For being "weak" he was refused milk, ignored by siblings and abandoned by his pride. This pride showed more loyalty to a fatal injury but Misfit's pride abandoned him for much less. Animals run on instinct but they also have unique personalities and react differently - they're more complex than we give them credit for :)
I still cry about that. I so wish the " no human interference" rule could've been broken in Juniors case. He had so much will to live. One handicapped cub couldn't have hurt. He may not have lasted long but he at least could've enjoyed love and some kind of life. Breaks my heart to know how afraid he must have been at the mercy of predators. He couldn't defend himself😢
Curiosity, not love. Do some research and you will realize that lions don't feel love in any way, they kill their own cubs very often. Besides, they abandoned him without looking back.
Theres another video similar to this where the lion family refuse to feed the cub because he is slightly injured (misfit I think is the name) People sometimes need to remove their rose tinted glasses about animals.
Most people do thats why they love their pets more than human beings cause pets don't talk back to you its a less complex relationship that they have to deal with and shows how socially awkward people are.
