Kardashian has ruined the integrity of the dress with her arrogance and entitlement. Seeing the Ripleys people stressing the dress to fit over Kardashians behind is gross and uncomfortable to watch. Very disappointing. I agree with everything you have said Laura. It’s a disgrace.

I literally said the samething, she was an icon and Kim will never ever be Marylin. She was naturally beautiful, she didn't need surgery to be curvy and gorgeous. It honestly made me sick to my stomach seeing what they did to that dress. I was like thats so disrespectful to the dead. She was wearing a dead woman's dress, Kim will never fit the narrative of Marylin.

Looking at that dress on Marilyn vs Kim just proves how inimitable MM was bc it honestly looked like 2 different dresses. Marilyn absolutely sparkled wearing it, whereas Kim actually looked rather plain. Wild how the same dress can look so different according to who's wearing it!

I feel sincerely that the dress and it's aura are damaged. The horror I felt when I saw those totally inept Ripley people forcing that dress over Mount Kimberest's rear will remain with me forever. I am disgusted by her hubris and gall. Marilyn is my one and only favorite of all faves. It WAS her dress. To think only she had worn it and only once and only to that incredible, historical, event that had much gossip to go along, was part of our pop history. No longer does it have that cache. It is spoilt. And now has Kardashian's sweat, and body make up and creams on it. Because she had worn potions, you can see her skin was shiny with some glow products. I detest her for it.

Bob Mackie - damn legend. You can see why he stuck by Cher’s side all these years - Marilyn’s aura and Cher’s aura are very similar. They exude femininity, boldness, confidence and sex appeal; THEY wear the clothes, the clothes do not wear THEM. When Kim wore the birthday dress, it WORE her. She looked nervous, restricted, and it appeared forced, not effortless. It was a poor choice, and the fact that the dress is associated with the Kennedy’s, whom Marilyn had a significant falling out with shortly before her death, Kim’s wearing of the dress left a bad taste in my mouth.

CHEFS KISS 👩‍🍳 💋 It’s not just Kim herself I’m angry at, it’s the fact that she felt so entitled to wear it, even knowing this dress is THE MOST ICONIC dress in history! She did it on purpose to make the front cover of every magazine that she wore the dress. She knew that people would be pissed! I’m PISSED! Kim K. Thought, “hmmm what can make peoples jaws drop? I know wear the most iconic dress that CANT be worn. So I’ll wear it!” 🤦🏻‍♀️ SMDH And they gave her a LOCK of Marilyn’s hair! 🤮 This was a dress that Marilyn wore last. She died shortly after the birthday party and she should have limits to her selfishness. Nope. She doesn’t. She destroyed the reputation of the dress and she doesn’t care. She just wanted the fame True fact: Marilyn Monroe is my distant cousin and I’ve always found her fascinating and love everything about her. I feel the complete need to protect her and the iconic things she left behind.

Marilyn did have that wonderful aura about her, but she was very down to earth also. My sister-in-law, Princess Anya Obelensky was visiting her father in California at the time she met Marilyn. She walked into the kitchen in search of coffee and came upon Marilyn washing the dishes! Being 14 and at that awkward age not doing well in attracting suitors she asked her how she, herself could attract boys. Marilyn turned and sat down at the table and told her, "You have to think sexy thoughts. They'll get the message." Anya said she had a warm and sweet personality and they had a wonderful conversation. She also said Marilyn was tiny, funny and she was very sad to hear of her death. I really cringe knowing that Ripley's has this iconic dress on display, because it should be kept out of light in a controlled temperature and humidity vault. Thanks for another great video.

Marilyn Monroe is an icon in her OWN right. She was daring, sexy, and also sweet, intelligent, and had so much fortitude in spite of all she went through as a child and well into adulthood, especially never being able to be a mother, her one dream. She made her own way and will continue to be a star well throughout at least our lives. Kim Kardashian is a faux pas “star”. She will be irrelevant in 100 years when she’s gone. That’s truly how I feel. What is she famous for? Because her dad was a famous lawyer?! Ok. But besides that the only reason people watched is because they wanted insight into what it’s like being rich. That’s it. That’s the only reason people watch KUWTK. The fact that she risked ruining this ICONIC and absolutely ONE of a kind dress just to be relevant is sick. If she wrecked that they can’t get it back. There’s nothing you can do. The fabric isn’t even made anymore. It would just be gone forever. She should have just made one inspired by it by a very posh designer and I think it would have been better. But these are just my opinions and we know what opinions are like…. 😪

I’m so happy you have covered this controversial topic Laura. I think this was a highly audacious and arrogant move by KK to further gain notoriety. This historically significant garment has been reduced to a costume for hire by Ripley’s. The lack of respect from both parties is absolutely appalling . I’m aware that vintage gowns do the rounds in Hollywood and are available to anyone with enough money like KK to wear. However, where should the line be drawn ??? Thanks so much for the video! I love the way you pay so much respect to all the persons you talk about! 💖 In my opinion it was a huge disrespect to Marilyn Monroe that Kim Kardashian wore the dresses! Both should be national treasures! Marilyn Monroe was not only a star, she was THE star and honestly in her entire short life, they took so much from her, all she always wanted was something for herself and now she has not even this special JFK Birthday dress moment alone anymore! How sad! I recently read that Marilyn never wanted that someone else ever should wear her dresses, this glitter particular one was made just for her! It has her DNA on it! How could someone let this happen? Especially Kim Kardashian, a infamous figure who has a extremely bad influence to young people with all the plastic and surgery should never treated as a role model, because she is none! I am sure Marilyn would not be happy! Because she was unique and wanted so much that all women know they are too! She don’t need a Kardashian to be remembered, she will be still a huge icon long after the Kardashians will be alreadyforgotten in the future!

I supposed she just want to show case the dress, but it should be the whole person shining. There are a few people that do borrow clothes from the past to wear to the Gala. My comments on the Kardashians would go far beyond yours, I couldn't be as nice as you were... 😆 KK wearing the actual dress instead of a replica proves money buys anything, even though tasteless, trashy, disrespectful, and tone deaf. I am trying to refrain from mentioning the negative influence this family has had upon girls in this era (but failing) with their plastic surgery, overly photocopied advertising pictures, and dishonesty. It's all led to another unattainable unhealthy standard of beauty unless someone has their wealth. Add to that the being famous for nothing but looks, and the message that as long as you look good you don't need to be intelligent or work on a talent and the harm these girls have done is impossible to gauge. Ugh, I'll stop now. No one but Marylin should have ever worn that dress!!

Kim is a narcissist and only likes her own image and looks. She doesn't seem to care what the rest of the world thinks about her actions. For me she kinda ruined the dress, but it's only a dress at some point and if they just keep it in place correctly and carefully without lending it to other self absorbed celebs, it would be fine. The next couple of years no one will bet an eye that she had ever worn this dress. She's granded officially this negative type status from all of us because of the lack of respect to our dear Marilyn. It would be priceless if we just don't give this attention seeker family much of our energies and thoughts. Due to her lack of respect to our culture, history and collective consciousness this is really a big loss for Kim. She will be known as the selfish woman that wore an icon's dress at the Met gala (which in reality is also a boring event anyways).

Saying and I QUOTE, “IM GOING TO DO SOME SERIOUS VOO-DOO with this!” …..WTF?!?!? Oh yeah!! Ever read up on the Kardashians’ association to having Armenian blood ties to witch craft?? And that’s not meant to be taken with a grain of salt either…she literally wants to embody the SEX GODDESS ESSENCE she believes MARILYN to once have possessed. I mean…why the hair, and sleeping with it under your pillow?? 😳

26:10 This! Exactly Laura! I agree with everything that you say, especially this. I see a video suggested to me that says don’t be mad at Kim. Lol. You’re right to be mad, so am I. Kim Kardashian doesn’t care about how she gets attention. All she cares about is getting the attention, no matter what she has to do or how trashy it is. The Kardashian “ brand “ traffics” on going as low as possible as long as it makes money and gets attention. Opposite of Marilyn. However, it does show modern cultural low standards and no standards at all.

🤔 How do you explain the Met Gala and leave out the most important part? *The Theme* ! Each year guests are asked to interpret a specific *theme* . This year it was *The Gilded Age* . I thought you were going to explain why Kim chose this gown based on *the theme* . In a sense Kim and her klan represent the modern day American Gilded Age, she proved it by acquiring and wearing the dress. My takeaway - KK couldn't care less about Marilyn's legacy; she used the dress to create her own legacy.

I actually saw the dress at the Julien's auction preview. They charged for admission and all preview $$ went to charity. Don't know what Ripley's was thinking when they allowed this "wearing." It cheapens the legacy. Any textile conservator can vouch for how destructive "fitting" and "wearing" a delicate beaded gown really is. Ripley's lost me on this one. Terrible.

Kim should have had a replica made to match her own skin tone and kept her hair dark. It would have honored MM and it would have fit properly. She would have looked much better than she did squeezing herself into a piece of history.
@dinasawlani

This was an absolute travesty. The Kardashian sense of entitlement is astounding. Ofcourse she knew the reaction she would receive, unless she is so wrapped up in herself and obtuse as to think people would think this was a fitting tribute to MM. This worked for Ripley's, putting them in the limelight to the TikTok generation, giving them exposure after two years of lockdown. This worked for Kim, making her mark post divorce. This worked for the KarJenner clan prior to the release of their new reality series. All perfectly calculated. Ripley's is not a true museum, they do not care. Didn't ICOM release a statement condemning this? That in itself speaks volumes - the historical conservation community is horrified.

Unfortunately money talks and it’s really sad Ripley’s loaned it to her. But I’m not shocked at all because money buys everything but it can’t buy her being a status sex symbol icon like Marilyn who started from the ground up and earned it without trying so hard. That’s one thing I’m happy Kim will never have and can never pay for. She will never have the same status and respect that Marilyn has today!

Stupid me I didn’t even realize it was Marilyn’s dress when I first saw him wearing it. I just thought that she looked kind of awful. But her hair looked bad and that the undertone did not match the dress at all. That was a big undertaking trying to make that look decent. Fail. Can’t believe she talked her way into that.

I think you summed it up very well. ♥️ Kim's action was destructive on many levels. The only person she embarrassed was herself. What a stunning couture dress made for Marilyn who had a beautiful, natural body. That was part if her allure, her natural, unforced beauty. Nothing can ever dim that beauty. Photogrophers could not wait to photograph Marilyn; Kim had to throw a publicity stunt using someone else's fame to get attention, (destroying that beautiful dress) just to get people to inadvertently photograph her which would have happened anyway because it was a public event. Kim really exposed the quality or not of her character. Unfortunate for her

@nadjam07

Many will disagree with this but I think it was a unique idea for Kim to wear this dress. I think that it didn't ruin Marilyn's legacy but only reminded us of the event when Marilyn wore it. Marilyn is such an icon that no one could possibly steal her light and damage her legacy. However, I still think that Kim should have worn the replica because the dress didn't fit her on the back, she wore body oils and the fabric was exposed to too many external factors which could have ruined it. The safety of the dress shouldn't have been risked, especially with how fragile it is due to its age.

When I was a lil girl my dad would watch Marilyn Monroe movies with me and listen to Aretha Franklin music. He show me their pictures and say they are healthy and happy!He’d always remind me that it was healthy to have curves, it’s the heart that truly matters and all bodies are different shapes and sizes. To love mine as it is but to truly love myself, which has come in handy so much now I’m in my mid 30’s and yeah girl I have those curves! I tell my daughter the same thing and I learned to be feminine through my aunt and Marilyn because I was surrounded by boys so I definitely knew how to throw a ball and dribble before I knew how to do my hair lol. My dad bought me lipsmackers all the time he got me into makeup he was my manly army dad but I love that he helped and guided me with femininity ❤️

I had the same reaction as you did, I almost threw up and then the second reaction was anger at both Ripley’s and at Kim that both the former lent such a historic gown to anyone much less Miss Kardashian and anger at KK for thinking that she had any right to do so! Kim’s hubris and lack of reality check along with that of her family make me ill… I refuse to watch or buy anything associated with that “family”! Miss Kardashian has by her actions have soiled the memory of the dress by even touching it much less wearing she certainly stressed the seams and fabric and Ripley’s should not be allowed to own anything historic much less stay in business after this travesty. Sorry for the long comment I’m just so upset over the whole thing!

I don’t like the kardashians because of how they exploit their employees. There are some interesting articles regarding a lawsuit. I think I would have been horrified no matter who wore it. It’s a bit worse considering the fact that Kim’s body, specifically her butt, did not fit and was no doubt stretching the fragile fabric. Not body shaming, I’m just worried about the dress deteriorating faster. When I saw a photo of her in the dress without the fur, it looked like it was altered so her butt could fit. Either that or there was a zipper that was zipped as much as it could and was also being stretched and damaged. What did bother me (maybe it’s petty, is that the dress did not go with the gilded age theme at all. So it looked a bit out of place to me on Kim at that event
