Same check in experience for me at the Air Asia terminal it is always frustrating dealing with the Malay they do everything ass backwards . There is no one to help they are inefficient and common sense is something none of them have . I actually got my boarding pass after trying three machines cause the first two self check in ones didn’t work . Got through immigration and to the gate and was wondering why haven’t they even checked if I have a valid visa for Vietnam. Well apparently they have what look like police checking your documents at the gate when they start to board the plane . I told them they should really verify you actually have a valid visa BEFORE they give you a boarding pass . Don’t get me wrong I love going to KL the value for money and the food is great but dealing with the locals can be very challenging .
Welcome to Vietnam. Looking forward to your travel videos. While Hanoi is my favourite HCMC is great. As you say.. it's easy and has everything. Please try lots of local coffee and street food. It's at another level. KLIA2.. what can one say. Big fan of self check in but you then need to redesign the area for self check in. Changi is a perfect example. Enjoy yourself

Tucking your things away into your bag is also good for avoiding loss of loose items. In some places where there happens to be some instances of theft I’ve heard careful people will secure their valuables deep into their carry on bags in an attempt to avoid that.
HCMC is like Bangkok. They are vibrant modern cities. I hope you will show us other region of Vietnam in the next few months. I learn a lot when you explore a new area.
Phew !!! You cut it really close to board that flight, felt the adrenelin rush and had a few good lols too whilst hearing your tale. Its been some years since I last boarded a plane and am gearing up to experience it again.
I had a similar experience with AirAsia's FACES feature. Like you, I thought it was new and was excited about how it would make things easier. After getting it all set up I looked for videos on RU-vid showing how the experience was for people and was surprised to find some official launch videos from AirAsia that were 5 years old. Huh? I guess it's not new. When it finally came time to use it at the airport I headed to the FACES line at the gate and redirected to the regular line with a person checking passports and boarding passes. I never did get to use the face scan. I assumed it was a 5 year old experiment that failed. I'm glad you finally got it to work.
Air Asia is a bit strange. One time, flying out of Penang, all of the self check-in machines were printing blanks and the staff directed us to the counter. After printing the boarding passes, she asked us for the counter check-in fee. I didn't want to argue too much so I just paid the fee. Buying alcohol in a lot of countries can be a bit weird coming from US where you can get a beer from any convenient store. We were at one city in BC and found out alcohol is sold in a separate location with its own entrance next to the grocery store and it has its own opening/closing schedule.
