Meet Steve Wallace, CEO and co-founder of Phantom CNC Systems. Join us in this video as Steve talks about the journey of Phantom CNC for the first four years and the purpose behind Phantom CNC Systems.
Steve was deployed to Iraq as a young soldier and ended up coming back injured, in the hospital for a year. After he returned to North Carolina, he started his career in law enforcement but was always into woodworking.
He bought his first CNC in the early 00’s to continue learning his woodworking skills from a North Carolina based CNC company. Being in law enforcement, he didn’t have a lot of money, so he had to dip into his 401k to purchase the CNC machine. He certainly made money with that machine, but he came to the conclusion that there has to be a better way.
After that epiphany, he then realized that he needed the ability to cooperate with the Asian market and to use “off the shelf” CNC parts. This was a difficult task at the beginning, but we have jumped over the obstacles to create this market inside the US.
“The equipment will do what it’s designed to do - It’s the people behind it.” Steve continues, “Probably the most important thing I’ve found out in four years - This CNC business has a lot to do with CNC but more to do with family. More to do with people “
There was a young couple that had just quit their job to work at home while Steve is on a delivery and sees a dad able to go and get his kid from the school bus. It was at that moment that he realized that what we are doing here at Phantom is changing peoples’ lives. It gives the parents the ability to be around the house for their kids. “The mom, the dad, the family business that’s supporting a couple of kids. We take that extremely serious.”
You will find that at Phantom, we take it seriously when a customers’ machine is down. It will stop everything inside of our building until that customer is back up and running. Steve highlights this very notion here, in this video.
Coming from a career in law enforcement, Steve is no stranger to hard times, financially. He is at a spot in his life where he realizes that now we have to embrace the people that believe in Phantom and make sure that we help make those people successful. We believe in people. Phantom is not owned by investment groups just looking at the bottom line. We invest in people. We take care of our people.
We have some tremendous ideas in a 3-year plan to take automation to another level in your shop. Over the next few years, equipment will come to the customer that has never been available to the general tradesman in his back yard.
Keep your eyes on Phantom as they continue to be the Evolution of CNC.

Fake news Steve. Start helping your customers with the problems they have. Take the time to actually return an email or phone call. What you say and what you do are day and night.
