Imo it’s the best generation, not just because of the main trio of games or the Gen 1 remakes but also because we got the best spin-offs from that generation. Colosseum/XD and Mystery Dungeon are phenomenal.
It probably is the best! Not too controversial to say that. The combo of Gen 3-introduced pokemon, good story, and good postgame make it a serious contender without a doubt
My start with pokemon was the same way. I remember playing pokemon Yellow, because it was the only one my older brother allowed me to override the save file for. He had Gold and Silver but I wasn't allowed to touch them. So Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald were the first games that were mine, and I remember trading pokemon in third grade, and talking to friends about how to catch latios and latias. My best friend to this very day was a friendship that began because of out interest in pokemon and is still a huge part of our friendship today. Pokemon Ruby was my first Pokemon Game and I got it with the matching red Gameboy Advance SP for my birthday. Duuude I played the shit out of this Game. It was such an experience with no Internet, no spoilers just me and my Pokemon exploring a new world and even after hundreds of hours of Gameplay I explored new stuff or my friends showed me something new. Its sad that further Generations of Kids and also me as an adult will never have this kind of experience again because of the nearly always excessible way to go on the internet and look thinks up or get spoiled.
These was the best Generation for me. The inspiration from the landscapes and the lore of the legendries was so good. Had all my favorite things. Deep sea, ancient ruins and legends, space... the diverse landscapes, pokemon cries, battling steven, the MUSIC. I love this gen from top to bottom man..
I grew up on red and blue, but I definitely spent the most time in ruby and Sapphire, and LOVED firered and leafgreen. I kinda stopped playing Pokemon at gen 3, but when I get the itch to play, I always go back to gen 3
Ruby and sapphire fire red leaf green and emerald will forever be the peak generation of Pokémon games to me, the year ruby and sapphire released my mom had gotten me them for Christmas that year and all i can say is life was unforgettably great
You’re right about 3rd gen being the end of the golden era. I remember asking my parents to get me a GBA SP just so I could play Ruby. I sunk a ton of hours into it. Then one day my house got broken into and they took my GBA SP and my PS2, I ended up becoming an Xbox kid after that and never played a Pokémon game again. Good memories man, and what an amazing soundtrack.
Sadly I had fallen out of Pokemon by that point was only semi aware of what was going on after Gold and Silver (I didn't know Crystal was a thing till a decade later). Then my nephew got Pokemon Sun for the 3DS and watching him play that game and collect pokemon cards brought back a flood of memories. Now I'm playing Pokemon Scarlet (just got completed the pokedex) as my nephew plays Violet as I type this heh.
Great video, I was gifted Ruby and Sapphire for my birthday and I remember loving them so much. My dedicated file was on Ruby. I was pretty alone during this generation as yu gi oh got really popular in my town. I was really stoked in middle school when everyone had a DS and Gen 4 came out!
I remember thinking I could go back to Johto after beating the game as a kid I was so disappointed when I couldn't. Still love the game and its music is my favorite of the series.
I remember my friend let me borrow Pokémon Sapphire, I played the game non stop the entire weekend. Sunday night became the first all nighter I pulled. Then my dad caught me playing around 4am. 😅
Great video, really liked how you tell your personal stories with each game until the alpha and omega remakes, is always so nice to see how this games impacted everyone on different levels, for me i wasn't that lucky as a kid, me and my family didn't have much money and games on my country were very expensive, even tho for me Ruby is one of my favorite games of all time, i never owned a copy until i was an adult and bought it second hand, twice, one the single cartgride and one full with box and inserts, as i kid i helped kids that owned a GBA with sapphire or ruby to go throught the adventure, i remember i knew all the secrets and game guides because on super markets there was always a new number of Nintendo Magazine with tips, solutions and stuff like that, so i would read all of that while my parents bought the groceries, i owned an old GameBoy, the big one with the green screen with a pokemon silver copy i traded for some other old games i had and didnt like, i couldn't play with kids in my school because all of them had Gameboy Color or Gameboy Advance 😅 but the good thing was that at some point they got bored or stuck at some parts and let me borrow their consoles and games in exchange of mine for the weekend, i remember starting my own game, without saving, until batteries run dry and then helping them progress with another set of batteries, later i managed to install an emulator and played so much, every version, specially Ruby countless times because my mother would delete my games every time i had bad grades at school, but for me going to origin cave an catching Groudon was amazing everytime 😅then was until i finished university and started earning money to collect the stuff i didn't had as a kid, i got a 3ds and omega ruby, later, learning that you can transfer all your pokemons since gen 3 to every new gen after that made me collect all games and ribbons for my main teams, they are all now on Ultra Sun :D once i a while i restart the second cartgride i have with Ruby for the nostalgia, love the music and the way it sounds with the GBA speaker, its all nostalgia, thanks again for the great video, just popped out of nowhere on my recommendations :D

Emerald was and still is arguable the best Pokémon game. Black/white 2 for runner up. Ruby and sapphire were key foundations for why emerald was so great.
I hope the next Pokémon is a complete overhaul of the game mechanics, like what Breath of the Wild did for Zelda. That’s not to say I want the old format to die out, I just want game freak or someone else to try something different with what current hardware can achieve. Just for one year.
I can vividly remember getting Pokémon yellow with my dad at Kmart and going into eb games with my dad and him buying me ruby. Great memories for me because I remember how excited I was for them but what is even sweeter is now as an adult I can look back with the perspective that we were poor growing up not from any fault of my father. He worked two jobs and had 3 kids and a sick wife that pretty much sucked every extra penny out of him for obvious reasons. He bought me those those games unexpectedly. I asked him in the moment and he probably took what was probably an important 30 or 40 dollars and decided that he would sacrifice maybe lunch for him for a week or two or a new pair of boots to make his child happy which is a beautiful thing.
Pokemon Sapphire was not a game I played much as a kid; my sisters had a blue GBA SP with a copy of Sapphire One day, I was playing a little of it, and I was in a cave area, I don't know how old I was, but my sole memory of playing Sapphire was finding a full odds shiny Aron I distinctly remember being weirded out I found an Aron with red eyes and didn't even know what it was
the original games were red and green in Japan. A few months later they released an updated version blue with some bugfixes and new sprites. This version blue became the base for the international versions red and blue.
When they said Atari and all those games were a fad. WRONG. Look at next generation. Just like Pokemon. But I hate third gen Pokemon and stupid ass oras. Sure an update was nice but way too much water. So a remake for emerald on switch would be interesting.
