My friend Nick Dompierre skated for Real. Great episode as always. Nothing is as bad ass as Gonz kicking the sign like a shaolin monk. The Gonz is king 👑
Props for the 976-EVIL Jim Thiebaud factoid. I watched that a few months ago and was like, “Holy shit, that’s Jim Thiebaud! I didn’t know he had an acting gig.”
I had a REAL board for a lil more than a day. Dipped wood, Spitfires, Indys & Bones Swiss. Hardly a scratch. Left it at bus stop on way to work. TG & JT are true Skateboarders thru & thru. They are REAL. Killer Vid.
Omg, I only have one board with bones Swiss and the price of those alone would make me never forget anywhere, and I’ve left boards at train stations before
I met Jim and Natas in New Jersey around 1989 they were with Julian Stranger and Allan Peterson. Jim was Such a cool guy. And I always rode real boards . I just loved the shape of them and the snap they had.
Great Vid! Asking what Fav Real skater though is definitely a hard one cause they're all Boss status in my opinion. But seriously most underrated skillset wise but are Sooo Good are... Davis Torgerson, Alex Perelson, JT Aultz for sure. Salman Agah was also a pioneer in the switch game! Btw Nice Death Defeated Shirt! 😁👌🏼
My dad used to work for “REAL” making boards back in like ‘99 or ‘00, he used to get me blanks decks or they’re soon to be released boards and I remember they gave my dad like 2 tapes I used to watch
this was really good, no pun intended. I have been a fan of Real since 1991 and there were a couple things on here I wasn't aware of.kinda bummed you did not mention Real Small Wheels. I feel like they helped kickstart the company in a way. keep up the good work.
Folklore has it that Tommy G took a good amount of the Powell money he had saved and used it for board pressings for Real. Being that skateboarding was somewhat in a slump at that time, I think that move took a lot of guts, ambition, and vision towards the future.
Remember : James Kelch, Salman Agah ( 2003 Soty) , Shawn Mandoli, Peter Ramondetta, Frank Gerwer. Sour pro Gustav Tonnesen was seen riding a real board in an adidas video. Next one: WKND Skateboards. Greets from the Netherlands.
I think they single handedly created the tiny wheels craze in the 90s with their lil shits wheels. Their slicks with the guys in costumes. (Salman Agah and Simon Woodstock, etc.) had the thickest slick I've ever seen
I used to have a pair of the ishod dunks wore the hell out of them in high school miss being able to pick up a pair of dunks regularly from my local shop
Im wondering why Gonz was never in the THPS games. Also I think it was Real to Reel where Gonz has that brick to brick ledge trick. That whole part was jaw dropping to me. Especially at that specific time in skating. Being old now I like to watch his RU-vid channel because he does all these cool curb tricks I can try and learn. Edit. Drake Jones was so sick too.
That's actually an interesting question. You'd assume he would have been a character in THPS1. His RU-vid is rad! Its funny to see him filming with him laptop, ipad or other crazy devices haha.
Yea haha, those were the glory days of Powell, these dudes were making insane money. Makes it even more impressive that Tommy made the leap to leave and do his own thing!
When I saw the title of this vid, I figured it was gonna be about the HA thing. I remember that a chapter President came into Above All in OB (SD) to buy some trucks, wheels, etc. He said he wanted a complete to hang on his office wall He then told us about what happened. I guess they rolled into Deluxe and that they were there to take all the boards with the HA logo due to their copyright. They told Real that the issue could be either dragged out in court forever, or they'd take of them by force... The guys at Real made the right (smart) choice, and handed over the decks. So, yeah. the Pres. was setting up one of those boards
I bought my first REAL deck in middle school and it came with the Lost Days and Throwaways DVD. Had me HOOKED! The music selection alone was absolutely fire. I’ll always remember Justin Brock’s section with him skating to Half on a Sack by Three 6 Mafia. Legendary in my mind. REAL is (in my opinion), one of, if not the greatest skateboard companies to ever exist. The fact that the team skates the exact same decks we do is the cherry on top. I have nothing but love for all of those dudes. 🫶🏻
That slogan you have up to the left of you was me and my best friends saying when we went to New York for 2000 New Years. My buddy had a knife money clip and we walked around for the 6 days we were there saying, “I don’t know you but I’ll cut yah” hilarious that you have that
at least you aren't saying rodney mullen invented street. In which he didn't. Gonz, Natas, Mike V, Tommy, Theibaud, etc where the pioneers of street. Like it or not. Mullen didn't start street skating until it was already developed.
