The Story of The Crown - A Recap Ahead of Season 3 

I thought I would be a bit disappointed because I loved the actors and actresses from previous seasons and they really looked like the royals. The new season showcases more mature and more confident acting. The feel and excitement haven't changed. Still my current favourite series on Netflix.

Princess Margaret is suddenly 1 feet shorter

So far I think the highlights of season 3 are Helena as Princess Marget and Erin as Princess Anne.

The real story has so much drama, there's no reason at all for the Crown to get any facts wrong or take dramatic license. Especially as they get closer to current day, viewers will notice anything that isn't true.

I loved Claire Foye and wasn't sure how the transition would work from her to Olivia Coleman, whom I also adore, but in the first 10 minutes, it has gone so smoothly and that is a testament to how much Olivia Coleman is an amazing actor.

I am already hooked on season 3. It is wonderful!

Finally! Been waiting to see Olivia Colman as the Queen!

Season 3 is excellent! I absolutely loved it!

Season 1 and 2 cast were awesome and I thought that season 3 would be a let down. I was actually very pleased and the new cast being older and more experienced were seamless in the transition. The talent on the show is extraordinary.

They had Andrew & Edward in the sixties, not right after Charles & Anne. There is a decade difference between HM’s second and her third child.

Few characters kept me glued, Tobias as the Prince, Princess of Greece&Denmark, Lord Mountbatten and Princess Anne. They could easily have their own series. Ok love Helena but she struggled to walk in heels, it was a bit comical. Can't wait to see how they treat the Diana years. Maybe Meaghan will get a break when old Camilla wounds are rebroadcast and she resumes her old role of enemy number 1.

Well done you with this cogent recap. Binge watching season three this week. The casting, writing, direction are superb.

Excellent preview of Season 3 Netflix!

Josh O'Connor & Charles Dance are excellent as always. I'm less taken with the rest and the Queen Mother looks nothing like her. Coleman just cannot get the accent right it still sounds like she's the woman in Fleabag. As much as I love Derek Jacobi, there was no need to replace Alex Jennings who could have been aged for this brief appearance. They kept John Lithgow as Churchill so it seems daft why they couldn't have kept other actors for small parts.

Oh my God watching season 3 was disappointing. Olivia Colman looked absolutely miserable in every episode... She maintained the same look of horror throughout the entire 10 episodes. I really wish that Claire Foy was asked to stay on as the queen... There is definite room for improvement for Miss Coleman... I truly hope that we get a season 4.

There was no need to change the actors. Nothing to say about the new ones who are certainly highly qualified, but still.

Congratulations to all the cast season 3. Beautiful how you pick an important part of this family story, elaborate and stop. This is not a biography or documentary. Is impossible to build details without knowing. I get the, what is going on that times, may be not accurate but I believe the feelings then. Episode 7 OMG! totally forgot I was watching the crown. I felt that lost and dissiaponted every day and nothing can bring me back to believe in humans, greed and deception.

Watched a couple of seasons of outlander just earlier so seeing Tobias here is confusing lol

What happened to Prince Phillip? His personality changed from being gritty and outspoken in the last series to the meek little pussy cat in this one. Although it didn't quite live up to the last one, Princess Anne was priceless and a lovely Price Charles.

Binged it. Was a bit let down.

The video is very well put together, but it would have been a better idea to stick to seasons 1 and 2 and not to comment so much on season 3. As spectators, we'll know what to look for and we get major plot points. Like I 've said though, nice images and collaging.

The more closer we get to the modern era the more accurate the research would have to be. Theres nothing worse than watching a good drama, only to find out none of it was based off real life circumstances. It puts viewers off from watching period dramas entirely if the storytelling was faked. Part of the reason for The Crown's appeal was its closeness to historical accuracy and I would hope that would continue into the production's future. On an extra note: What is with the skipping of credits? The opening/end credits are part of the show and so in my opinion shouldn't be skipped or even have the option to skip them. In my view that is worse than the fast or slow options introduced by Netflix actors are ranting about.

I don’t know having trouble getting use to new actors just finished season 3 n it was ok but 1 n 2 was better, I hope 4 will be more interesting n not take 2 years to make . Hope the queens clothing gets better, 1 n 2 were more glamorous

Olivia Coleman’s costumes are fine as regards style, but they are dreadfully badly made. They look like the wrong size all over. The Queen’s clothes are rarely flashy but they are superbly tailored. The producers of “The Crown” seemed to have skimped a bit here.

Weird opinion: if we want to use Olivia Colman then why not let Claire Foy do the voice over She mastered the voice and Olivia did not

Stop it already. The Queen hated being queen because it belittled her husband who retaliated every chance he got. Its is not the responsibility that made her unhappy it was her husband behavior that he couldn't control.

Do I have to watch the earlier seasons to understand the new one?

Olivia Colman looks too old to play a 38 year old Queen in 1964. The Queen looked much better than that during that time. Helena looks great. Both strong actresses, though. I still think they could have kept the original cast and just aged them a bit. This new casting makes them age about 20 years!!😂

To be honest this movie is kind of boring

Season 3 is such a disappointment. Olivia Colman appears to do nothing but stare into the camera I want to slap her to get her arse in movement. I keep watching in hopes it will get better but it just doesn't. So boring and that music sounds like a funeral procession. I've watched several episodes and each is worse than the one before. For me, it certainly isn't worth a year's wait.

"She was never really meant to wear the crown" Well that is not really true. Even IF Edward VIII did not abdicate, we must keep in mind that he never had any children with Simpson. The Queen would have still been heir to the throne, it just would have been 20 years later.

It is very hard for me to grasp that the queen aged so much in 1 year when they switched from Claire Foy to Olivia Coleman.

The way I see it: Claire portrayed a very young woman who just started to learn the ropes of her new duty; who was naturally very stable but sometimes she had to 'wing it' and act more dominant than she feels to establish power and authority. That's why she had a power play with Philip, she was still building her confidence(as we all do in our 20s). And then we go to Olivia and more mature, calmer Queen. Her maturity shows in her marriage, where the power play is gone and in ability to question herself, her feelings and ability to forgive. What is beautiful here is that that is a story of all of us as we age and The Queen IS all of us, because she is human. That's the central story: differences in 2 periods of her life, differences in delivery of these 2 actresses. That's why the first scene starts with her looking at 2 portraits.

No No No in so many ways No, Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II, not in my wildest dreams would I have thought of her as playing the queen, maybe the wicked queen in some other movie.. She looks no where like the Queen and watching the first show of season 3 is so VERY Disappointing. The three top character's change was totally unnecessary unless you wanted to loose your audience, which must be the case. What was wrong with using makeup to age the actors as is done so often? Olivia Coleman has buck teeth in her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth which is not flattering at all to either of them. Why was there a change of characters????? It shows the start as 1964, the Queen did not look anywhere as old as this woman looks, and Poor Hellen Bon Carter as Princess Maragret, a joke. Why change that character???? What has happened, I think, is they want to get rid of us as an audience for The Crown and thus stop the show in it's tracks. There is no disagreement that Helen Bon Carter is a great actress and she probably would have fit in fine if the series had started off in 1994, some 30 yrs later than the 1964 it shows at the beginning. I have to allow for the characters Olivia Coleman has played and she does a good job with those characters she played in the past, not as Queen Elizabeth II. Claire Foy was supperb as the Queen and kept the Queen's character believable all through the first two seasons of The Crown. Even the character playing Prince Phillip has changed, he could be more believabe if again, it were 30 yrs. later than the 1964 they claim the actors should be portaying. SO DISAPPOINTING. To make the season believable it would be better if no one had seen seasons 1 and 2 therefore not depending on anyone to look anywhere like the Queen as Laire Foy did. This can't be how the producers of The Crown want us to keep watching. I'll just go back to watching seasons 1 and 2 from time to time and let that be that. So sorry for all of us fans of The Crown. Please somebody change it back. Producers are you listening or reading?

Claire Foy is the main reason the show was what it was. Not to say Olivia won't be great, but Claire Foy made the show feel scarily realistic and personal.

Olivia Coleman looks too old. Ditto HBC. They should have kept original actors for another season with a little ageing and then used these ones for season 4. The age gap between them doesn't correlate to the timeline they are keeping to.

She was always going to become queen. Her uncle's wife was an older woman and was highly unlikely her uncle and Wallace would have had children due to their ages. However her becoming queen at such earlier age was never planned or foreseen.

Just finished binging. Here’s pros and cons: Pro: the acting is exceptional; excellent cast. Con: a little bit of Princess Margaret goes a long way - her poor me, victim number wears thin. She had a chance to tell them all to pound sand and marry Group Captain Townsend, but she wasn’t about to give up all of her privileges and The HRH.

The Kings Speech is a good background for Queens pappy lol and its a damn good movie.

I love how the queen is young when Kennedy dies in season 2 but old one year later in season 3...good job Netflix lol

The shout out to Madonna's movie "W.E." is SO welcome, it's a really good movie - it seems most of the criticism came from the fact that it was made by Madonna than anything else.

Margaret & Armstrong-Jones didn’t get involved in 1953. Their affair became public just after HM’s coronation in 1953. Also, the phrase ‘wasn’t really meant to be Queen’ loses its sting, especially when one contemplates on the possibility of Edward VIII having children, even if he had not abdicated. #researchisnotdead #googleisyourfriend
