We have a 8240 at home . Bought it in 2004 with 6000 hours and now it has around 14000 hours on the clock not a single big problem has appeard . only one water pump failure and a couple leaks here and there but a very good tractor and no thinking of replacing it
I'm sorry to say If Newholland went back and made those tractors new they would outsell the junk they make now. Every tractor I want and love were built in the 90s. It's funny how the old tractors out perform their equivalent troctors of today. And I would love to see todays tractors give 30 years of service.
Totally agree with you on the 40's. I have a 95 7840SLDP Turbo with a loader, 15000 hrs on the original packs. I drove it to its first owner when they bought it new as I worked for the dealer, and I drove it home from his yard when I bought it off him 14 years ago. Hardly use it now but smile every time I drive it, its on the list for a revamp when funds and time allow, along with the Comemerative edition 2wd 1394 I have
Rose tinted glasses can mislead some peoples memories you got to remember at the same time in the same dealer you could buy a F series Fiat just something to think about.
I use to drive a 7840 turbo it is still to this the only tractor I've seen to spin the wheels on takeoff at a junction with a full load of silage and you would think there nothing behind 32 mph it was a savage tractor
I had two 7740s with loaders and I found them weak and uncomfortable and I was a Ford man an am a new Holland man , I wouldn’t entertain that 8240 at all but we have an 8360 and love it and have several newer new Hollands but the best tractor I ever owned was a series 3 7810
That tractor is just awesome Iv owned 2 Ford 8340s and the power speed just made them a brilliant tractor, not without their issues but then everything has
I still have a 7840 with dual power and aftermarket turbo, 145hp on the pto.... it feeds the cattle all winter and makes silage in the summer got 15600 hours on it... and clocks up 700 hours a year... honestly dont know what i could ever trade her in for 😅
I’ll hold my hands up, I’m not a great Ford fan, (more new Holland) but she’s a good looking rig. Hopefully you’ll hold onto it for a year or so. I’m gonna have to play with the trac… can’t have a Ford being faster!😳🙄🤣
you have some passion for that tractor and I dont blame you. Keep it for sure, these tractors prove you dont need the newest thing to get the job done. Never lost there looks either, Class
We’ve an NH 8340 at home. Absolutely bulletproof. Definitely keep it. A neighbour had a white roof 8340 exactly like it. 650’s on it too. I don’t know where but he had black mudguard extensions on the rear. Covered the wheel and really finished off the look of it.
I had a 94 sl-dp 7840 with a TB turbo and a loader, it did everything, a 10ft mower, welger 235, big agitator were no problem for it. Traded it for a sle ts115, doesn’t have the same power at all, a lot heavier on diesel too. My old tractor was brilliant but 14k hours were starting to become an issue so it had to go.
Had an 8240 for years. Used it to draw silage during the summer and straw and bale silage during the winter. Had it on a 20ft Ruscon and with that gear box it was a dream. Had a few times where the trailer lifted the rear end when tipping with wet silage but throw it into 4wd and away you went.
Those 40series both ford and new holland look great. A contractor in our area had a couple 8340s with loaders. He did a lot of baling/wrapping/stacking with ehm. Wouldn't surprise me if they went over 20k hours before he got his first 8360. He now still runs a ts115. Our new holland mechanic liked the new holland versions better, mostly cuz its wiring was better i thought he said. But it looks great!

There's a New Holland 8340 here at home and I just love it. Hate the SLE gearbox but love the tractor. I agree. There's something about the 40 series. That 8240 is a honey 👍 looking forward to seeing what you do with it.

I think the 8240 was non turbo out the factory. And the 8340 was factory fitted with a turbo. But like the 7840 everyone just fitted them with aftermarket Garrett turbos.
They are the same tractor, 8240 is de-tuned to 110hp while the 8340 had 120hp. When they were launched with the blue roof both models gained 5hp. Probably the 8340 came with more toys like ground radar and A/C.
Yes it did, both have the same 7.5l Powerstar turbo engine. The 7840 had a non turbo 6.6l engine from the factory, all turbos were fitted later by the dealership or by the owner.
@@fnh8340 sorry buddy they had the same engine but the 8240 came out the factory with no turbo. My friend was sales rep and head mechanic for Ford/New Holland that was selling the blue stuff for 70+ years.
