Sometimes referred to as the town under the lake, Wilsonville Pennsylvania in the Pocono Mountains was once a hub of activity and a center of commerce. Fortunes were made and lost along the Wallenpaupack River and the fertile valley along its banks. Just to the South of Hawley Lake Wallenpaupack spans both Pike & Wayne County.
Join us as we explore the story of Wilsonville and the remnants that still exist under the surface of Lake Wallenpaupack today. Special thanks to Peter Becker and Jon Tandy, our local historians. Wilsonville is the Town Under the Lake.

Back in 1971 I was walking around fishing the lake from the shore and docks and some man walked up and started talking to me. He told me he was there when the lake was being filled after the dam was built. He said how clear the water was and there was a lot of stuff floating on the water like tree branches etc. I heard there was a church that wasn't torn down before the lake was being filled. You could see the steeple through the water. I wish I could go back in time and ask the nice old guy more questions. The nice guy didn't kick me off of his dock.

I heard the same thing, that there was a church standing when the lake was filled as well as a bridge underwater still intact. Some of the guys on the local dive teams probably know more about what is still down there.

I have also heard the same ☺️ also heard random things surfaced for quite some time afterwards.. not sure how true that is but definitely interesting to think about 💭

I love this (and all the historical videos you’ve made)! I grew up in Paupack, on Rt. 507 until I settled in the Portland, Maine area in the late 90’s, but I’ll always consider Lake Wallenpaupack to be “home”. I’m so thankful for videos like this one, which instantly bring me back to some of the best times of my life! Thank you for all your great videos and PLEASE keep up the great work!

We love the area! Would visit the Cove Haven Pocono Resort. Heard the story about a church at bottom of the lake and you could see the steeple through the water. Beautiful area!

Interesting video. Just curious what's the name of the musical piece used at the beginning?

The map of the area before it was flooded is fascinating. Do you have a link to where I can see the full map?

Why don't we look into getting (some//a) scuba diver(s) down to the bottom of the lake with documenting equipment?

Visibility is not real great. Our local rescue dive teams have been diving the area for a while.

Is there a map showing where the foundation are located on the lake
@WallyLife
@WallyLife 4 года назад
There was some side scan sonar that showed some of the existing foundations and the remains of a bridge. In our research, we didn't find a map showing the town layout or buildings.

I have the GPS coordinates to all but 3 foundations! Think I got 12 or 13 of them ! And the roads ! Good for tournaments! Stone and wood foundations are down their !

Love watching the videos, however, you need to lower the volume of the music. It is very distracting and makes it very hard to hear the narration. Music shouldnt be overpowering as it is in many of these videos.
