nothing ever stopped him achieve it either. first of his 6,7, a respected celeb, seem to be a smart guy, not bad looking. He had every option and he likely knew this very well. theres a good chance if he had a family he likely be an afaul father figure consider that he wasnt known to be faithful, had a drug problem and lacked consistence. My guess is, he was selfless in that regards likely knowing if he had a family hed destroy it.

@@dendrien he was his biggest saboteur that's for sure but there are worse men in the rock/metal scene that had stable family lives thanks to bagging one of their fans as a loyal devoted wife, Pete was just unlucky. Also, he might have been alive now if he had a wife by his side that relentlessly nagged him to go to the hospital on that damned day. It really is just fate sometimes.

I saw him at a Laibach show in Manhattan in 1996 and I'll tell you this - I talked to a lot of musicians I liked when I was young and stupid, but I was literally too scared to go up and talk to him. He was also there with a date and it seemed like he couldn't say two sentences to her before some dork came over to interrupt him, so I probably made the right choice for once.

I went to the Coal Chamber/Type O Negative tour back in the year 2000, it was called the "Road Rage" tour I even got to meet Duke Collins from the band The Deadlights and Dez Fafara from Coal Chamber. Dez was cool, but he seemed to be pre-occupied with the backstage party, he talked to us fans for a bit but didn't really respect me asking him about Sharon Osbourne haha (Sharon used to be Coal Chambers manager for you kids who don't know) then he quickly left the group of us fans backstage and returned back to partying and drinking backstage and I returned to the venue to watch Type O Negative!

I miss Pete so much! Growing up not far from NYC, Type O and Peter would always play shows and and even hang out here. Pete had a girlfriend here he would take the train up to see for the weekend or whatever. She had this TINY 80's hatchback Pete would be seen driving. Half hanging out of the windows like a folded praying mantis. He was sooo funny in an extremely sarcastic and in a very dry way.

Important note: In the Race Wars song, the lynchpin verse is, "Muslims against Christians And the Arabs versus Jews The Catholics and Protestants No one wins we all lose" Peter would play the edge lord bit to get you to pay attention and then drop in a hint of wisdom just to throw in a wise crack to make you think he wasn't a serious person.
@MantasticHams
@MantasticHams Месяц назад
Peter doubled down on most of his worst lyrical tendencies in interviews. WE all need to be re-assessing our "dude its a joke" attitudes towards these guys, its damaging to the culture. I used to do that shit, and then i realized if you dig, most guys who are willing to say, for example, they hate gay people, or they want to fvck K1ds, or they start fights for no reason, etc. almost without fail tend to actually want to do those things. There are situations where the parody is more clear, like say, GWAR, or... IDK you know the bands im talking about, where its a story, its more like a movie. "I like goils" is a song about how peter steele does not like gay people and hes proud of it, and it also includes a veiled reference to either r4ping l3sbians, or its bi-erasure whioch is still dumb. Its also a really bad song, and the jokes are objectively poorly written.

Pete did not die of heart failure. He died of a case of untreated diverticulitis. He refused to go to the hospital because one of his cats was sick and he wouldn't leave him. After a week of flu like symptoms, his long time friend finally convinced him to go to the hospital. Pete was already septic and died from that. Pete and his cat died on the same day. If he would have just gone to the hospital sooner, Pete would be here enjoying his new found sobriety and possibly, we would have been given a new Typo album.

An even better joke on October Rust than the outro was the intro joke. The first "song" was called Bad Ground and it was just the sound of buzzing for like 30 seconds or something and then the band came on laughing and invited you to enjoy the rest of the album. They got me with that one. I was checking all the cables on my old stereo trying to figure out why it was just buzzing.

@@saturationstation1446 To be perfectly fair, that was a big part of Type O's whole gig. It was meant to be ridiculous to a point. And I can see how off-putting that is on the surface. But they could also play it straight - and the results were often quite amazing. October Rust and World Coming Down had that humor muted (but not gone.) and were gorgeous well-crafted albums. They may have saved their best album for last, though. Dead Again was a raging full-on return to their hardcore roots while retaining their penchant for Beatles-esque melodies and harmonies. Might be the best final album from *any* band. Lots of ways to get into Type O.

I'm not the only one who thinks this because they were literally referred to as "The Drab Four", but Type O Negative were the Beatles of goth rock. Their chord structures and melodies have a classic feel to them (songs like Todd's Ship Gods, Be My Druidess, IYDKMIGTHTKY among many others) that's reminiscent of the Beatles and many other bands of that era. However the lyrics and sarcasm, cynicism, appreciation for nature, love & loss paint a unique picture i haven't quite found in any other group. Truly one of a kind and their music is my all time favorite. Peter was a rare gem. My uncle had been friends with him since the Carnivore days. Last time I saw them was when they toured with Lacuna Coil when they came to Baton Rouge. Great consistently odd band that came out at the right place and time.

I see October Rust as a landmark record. The sound is lush, heavy, ethereal, and haunting. To this day, there’s nothing that sounds like it. No one hassled me or anything though at their concert. Had a great time, though Josh wasn’t playing since he was busy with his day job (the got someone to fill in). I remember seeing Kenny randomly in Times Square and shouting about how I love his band as he was walking past me. He turned a bit, kept walking, then I guess thought enough to half-heartedly wave. Type O were unique on so many fronts but most of all the songwriting on their albums is what stood out most to me. I genuinely don't know how they manage to be so catchy and so heavy and experimental at the same time. Every album sounded different, World Coming Down is like pure Gothic Doom metal, but you can sing along to it. Then they put Life Is Killing Me out, and its a total 180, its pop all the way through, but it still sounds like them and its still so catchy.

Dude. Me and my 2 homies were doing our regular traversing of his(my buddys) neighborhood of Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn, and as we're on the "main" Ave of Sheepshead Bay Rd., we spot Pete's 'MadMaxMobile' and we're all like "Where is he!?".. Im feeling we'll never see him and I suddenly turn to my left and the guy's just sitting at the window seat of a decent bar, doorman in a suit at the door type of place. So we make eye contact and he straight waves us in like we're already aquatinted. Doorman tells us 14yr olds we ain't gettin in, "if he wants to come out that's his call"..So we give him the hand signals explaining we can't and he gives us the "sorry" shrug w/ the shoulders and we wave him a good day. I'm 40 f'n 2 now and I'm still happy to tell that story. One kid I knew even went to Pete's place and got a bunch of stuff signed.
