“One of the kindest and most compassionate people we know” says his mom …. about a man who prescribed drugs to an addict and cheated on his wife with her. Yeah, ok.
People's lives change with time? Someone can be depressed at one point in life and then that depression can ease/clear up? Like, this is not unusual at all.
if a friend said my bf was beating me up I would call police, I would not drive to her myself over 3 hours and deal with the man myself. how ridiculous
Not to mention, she didn’t have a mark on her. I’m not sure I even believe that story. I don’t know about MN but in a lot of states scrips like Adderall can’t be called in, they have to be in person, so he may have actually been there to deliver them and not anything to do with her BF.
Most people would call the police first to do a welfare check in case the boyfriendmight do something to her in those 3 hours it would take me to get there
One thing that was not answered and made me think about: is who she was texting with at the entrance of the apartment building? If Shane lost his phone, could they not subpoena his phone carrier for that information? And if Alex’s phone was locked, same thing, could they not have sent a subpoena to her phone service provider to see phone numbers that she was communicating with? I would thick this information would be out there somewhere.
3 damaged people. Drug addict woman, cheating man who controlled her with drugs, new violent man who thought a drug addict was perfect. No good can come from that.
I doubt he controlled her with drugs bc he helped call in her Prozac refills. Nothing illicit or illegal was done by Matthew prior to “homicide” with no motive
You're a married man with children and you're driving two plus hours toting a gun to go confront your mistress's boyfriend. Does this sound like something a normal person would do?
Exactly. And it was night time, like need to be getting ready for bed with your wife and tucking your kids into bed, time. He drives 3 hours away from his family with a briefcase that has a gun in it to go confront this guy who's supposedly causing his ex mistress issues ... After the bar altercation he goes to his ex mistresses appt with her and is clearly in an argument with her before going to the appt for the last time .. what was she talking about on her phone? Why couldn't a phone tech of sorts break into her phone? What did dude go outside to do or check on and then come back inside, tell Alex something that obviously ticked her off and follow her back upstairs... It all just isn't making sense. And now I want to know more lol I'm sorry to the family who lost a loved one and I know they want to point the finger at someone but why aren't they wanting the story to be clearer also? To know the truth... ....make it make sense 😐
I like how everyone who dies/gets killed on these shows is remembered for being the best person who ever graced the planet....they light up rooms, are strong and independent, and walked between the rain drops...then you find out they are monkey branching with men, being shady, and surround themselves with drama.
The boyfriend's words are unbelievable. "We argued like a married couple..."?? After a few months? I've been with my partner for 30 years. He has never ever punched anything, ever. Why can't these men control themselves?
And they knew he was cheating and didn't tell her. I love how the mom was like, "She knew he was married and had kids." Well, guess what lady, your SON (the husband and father) knew he was married and had kids. Way to try to shift the responsibility. Yeah, your son did it. Look at who his parents are.
I told a friend who was a psychiatrist that one of my adult students was a psychologist that was completely loopy, and he said that’s totally normal. He said he became a psychiatrist to deal with his own issues.
The boyfriend: only dating 4 months & he's punching her walls & her guy friend. 🚩 The guy "friend" : paying her bills, had an affair with her, sketchy behavior. 🚩
It’s weird that her bf “lost” his phone the same night that she died. Prosecution claims he shot her from a distance, but the ME said “undetermined”. Why couldn’t the ME determine how far the gun was from her head? There are too many missing pieces of information. The whole thing is weird.
Ya there’s a lot of questions not answered that are musts! Like why couldn’t they break into her phone like they do all the time. Also the gun residue on her hand! No I don’t believe he did it there’s not enough evidence to convict him in my eyes
You know what? She sounds EXACTLY like Cindy Watts, Chris's mother! She blamed Sha'nnan for everything too, whike her precious boy was innocent. Matthew and his mother probably had a semi-incestuous relationship too. Matthew's wife and myabe his kids are lucky he is in jail becaused he probably would have offed them.
Exactly! And her son just forgot about his wife or what?? It makes my blood boil when people pretend that the uncommitted person in an affair is the one responsible.
When he addressed her "A girl" when he called 911 you know he's the one who did it 😤 And no innocent or concerned person washed their hands first before calling for help 😔
Agree. I noticed that too, he was trying to distance himself from her. Then he's covering his tracks by saying he washed his hands and they haven't even asked him if he washed his hands or why his hands are clean. Guilty conscious.
i love how you are now uploading several episodes in a week. your episodes are always amazing, though it is sad that they always mean one more person lost his or her life.
lol Yep, just commented that I was shocked this story is so new - hadn’t seen that horrendous Kate Gosselin hairdo in at least 20 yrs, and no one should have to ever see that again.
The fact that she continued staying at the bar with Matthew for another hour like nothing had happened shows how toxic all three of them were. I would not be able to shake off the fight and my night would have been over right there.
@@saraha.1422Well, except that the mother says she knew he was having an affair and cheating on wife and four kids! Sure, sure, what a great person he is.
@@TamiTribbiani-im1go no idiot.. my comment specifically said 'hurt'. Hurt can be both a physical and mental thing! The mental issues those kids will feel for years to come. 😢
These parents who are so out of touch! The Mom keeps a straight face as she says 'they ended the physical affair but were friends'. The Mom said Alex had turned her life around after graduation. Really?!? So you never suspected she got certificate to have better access to drugs?! Hard facts for whomever feels offended. I'm sick of all the sugarcoating BS!
Having her affair partner writing Rx, he was targeted for that propose. Pay attention . Fighting current boyfriend to move in, as she needed someone to pay her rent. Alex used men, and that has always been dangerous as they tend to be more violent than Women. History is full of these stories.
Killers give themselves away with fake, no-tears crying and a story filled with too many details. And who chooses to wash their hands before calling 911? RIP, Alex.
Alex manipulated everyone bc of addiction. It doesn’t mean she wasn’t a good person underneath, but Matt gets texts from her clearly indicating she was suicidal, but also wanting meds. He is guilty & goes out of his way bc of guilt. She manipulated the encounter at bar with boyfriend who was a violent idiot, and Matt looks to be an upstanding dude, but he has been paying her rent, getting her meds, and allowing her to drink with those meds in her system. With 4 children & wife at home. A lot of alcohol & emotions, and dumb decisions.
I can’t stand when parents say “It’s something my child wouldn’t do” Sorry To Let Yall Know That Yall Don’t Know Yall Kids Like Yall Think.! Yall Are Not With Them 24/7
Then strangers cannot know them at all. No one is with anyone 24/7. Parents know your character and know your capabilities more than most people, as they have witness you grow.
@@ss-wu1vpI beg to differ. After a certain age, most parents can't speak to most of the things their ADULT child is doing. Especially, if they are living away from home.
The delusion in this episode for each person is next level! “It’s completely against their character” then proceeds to give specific examples of how it’s exactly their character…. A mess.
A tale as old as time: Matt still wanted to be with Alex, she still wanted to be with Shane. Matt was probably mad that she wanted to be with Shane after all their fighting- plus Matt kept helping her with prescriptions, money, etc... so he thinks "why would you pick him over me"? That's my theory of what they were fighting about after the bar- what could've possibly been his motive. Strange case but i definitely think Matt is guilty.
@@lookingcloser what were the texts as she was waiting? They could get that even though boyfriend claims he lost his phone! Shoddy police work. Not guilty!
@@lookingcloser You are assuming Matt killed her. Get past your bias and look at what is known. Because if you don't, you will twist the story to line up with your theory. Scientists do it all the time.
@@dtharge4082 were there any or was she just looking to see if there was a reply or possibly answering an email? Maybe she wrote one but if Shane didn’t have his phone, she couldn’t have been fighting with him over texts. I’m sure if they were relevant they would have been introduced as evidence.
To many people making excuses for her...she was a mess & her parents are in denial......I do not understand why she was so tortured...she came from a good family, a good upbringing, education, what is that?.......his wife & his children should have been his focus, she was not worth it, which the next 30 years will make it all more aware for him.
Do a little reading on depression and mental illness. Not saying this applies, don’t know her, but you can have the best parents, great education, all the money in the world and still be depressed. It can be something inherent in a person regardless of the environment, and may not seem logical to others. Having something different or ‘wrong’ with your mind is no different than having diabetes or MS or a heart condition.
Because the model became / still is for women to go out on their own and meet strangers, get in a relationship, act like men. Empty. His focus should be on the kids regardless of what her status of well being was. Now they will grow up empty and alone. No one would be ‘worth it’ unless there is some unrelated extenuating circumstance going on.
@@leapintothewild She also started working as a nurse at a walk-in clinic in 2020, when the pandemic began. The pandemic had a huge impact on a lot of healthcare workers. That couldn't have been good for her mental health issues.
He's hiding his face a lot because he's not actually crying tears. When he's on the elevator with them, he bends forward and fake cries, hiding his face. When he's sitting on the ground "crying" he's mostly covering his face. Big red flag...
I agree too. Something doesn't seem right in the case. Welp if he is innocent I'm sure he's really regretting his life choices. He could have been honest and faithful to his wife and children and he wouldn't be in this situation. 🤷♀️
A man with a wife and four kids sleeping and financially supporting another woman on the side isn't because he's a good friend not expecting something in return
Don’t you just love. How Matthew’s mommy said, “Alex knew that he was married. When she started dating him”!! Yep lady!! Your son knew it too!! And still did it. That doesn’t mean it’s all on her. He had a choice of stepping out on his wife and kid’s!! And did it!! You & your husband raised a real winner. There is no doubt in my mind. That the jury got it right!! And thank God his ex wife. Is smart enough. To keep that family away from her children!! I hope she is able to heal from all of this trauma. That he inflicted on them. And Alex’s parents have my prayers.
@@Rafael_1965no one said that! But Matthew family are putting blame on a non married woman to dating their married with 4 kids son.. Her knowing doesn't change anything in the case .

Something else never mentioned. If he truly thought she was so depressed and potentially suicidal, why on earth would he leave a loaded firearm where she could grab it? It should have been holstered or locked and unloaded. That in itself is criminal negligence and reckless endangerment.
I’ve actually heard of this in other cases. It’s usually an iPhone that has security features that are very hard to circumvent - especially on a Lock Screen. I saw one case where a detective spent over 9 months trying different passwords. As she learned more about the victim, she had more material to work with. Finally, she managed to guess the correct password. I was amazed. I guess like many, I believed there was some special feature that enabled law enforcement to get into a locked phone. It’s totally within the realm of possibility for them to truly be locked out. It must be APPLE’s way of marketing to a special population of customers - criminals! 😂
When they arrived at the apartment, Matthew was wearing jeans. However, once the crime took place and he allegedly called the police immediately, he now has shorts. Hmm?
Yes! He clearly changed that’s why there was no blood. Also no one goes out of their way to say “I washed my hands” it might be a question asked by the cops but who goes out of the way to share that info? ALSO he was on his way into work… but then they ended up going to the bars? If the story was real, he may have checked up on her then gone into work. Too sketchy!
I feel the investigation could have been better. Why couldn't there have been phone records gathered to see who she was texting? This seems to me the most vital piece to be investigated.
Alex was my roommate when I lived in LA in sober living. She was a beautiful person and was the first person who made me feel welcomed when I moved into the house. She took an interest in me when nobody had ever done that for me before
@@chrissieroxba2949It appears she was struggling emotionally and did not develop coping skills to deal with it so the easiest way was to cover it up with medicines. I guess that makes someone a monster?

@@taylormontgomery5357 I'm surprised that I haven't heard one mention of the pandemic. According to this show, she started working as a nurse at a walk-in clinic in 2020. Punches the wall; punches the guy...but not in his character.....she's a nurse addicted to meds...gee, what could go wrong...& a married guy who thinks he can save her but she does not want to be saved......so he then shoots her?!!!! Is that what happened?
I am left-handed, but right-eye dominant and I shoot with my right hand. Not that weird to shoot with your non dominant hand. But all of this sounds sketch, lots of red flags with all 3 people
So where did he wash his hands at? Did he take a shower? Or change his clothes? Did they determine a time of death? What was his motive? Lots of questions. I feel reasonable doubt for sure.
@@jeremysmith9694 are you serious? Thank god you’re not on a jury! His story makes no sense. How did the door latch get under her head? If the door was closed how did he see her rack the pistol, and why did he stop in the middle of his explanation and say “right? Yeah, because she was left handed”? Why would he pick up the firearm, put it in his bag and then put it back, and why would he change that part of his story in the interview? Why was the sink dry if he washed his hands? As for motive I think he came to bring her the scrips and was hoping to hook up with her and she told him “no”.
@@andrewnajarian5994 not good enough motive. She said no so he shot her?? That's a little extreme. Her bf was the violent one. The ring easily could have rolled underneath her after. Or kicked as he was moving around. Yeah his story was dumb. But don't you think he easily could have figured she was right handed when he staged the scene? There are obviously some signs he did it. But I also think enough reasonable doubt, including her taking numerous drugs and being depressed. Not to mention her having gunshot residue on her left hand. That's very hard to stage.
@ there’s never a “good” motive. I’m Not sure what you mean about the right handed part, my point was in his interview he said he saw her rack the pistol and put it to her head but then said the door was closed and he had to kick it in and that when he described her racking it he sort of talked to himself to get his story right, it was very strange. Gunshot residue wouldn’t be that hard, it forms as a cloud and gets all over, plus if she was fighting with him, trying to push the gun away or something it would be all over her hand. Also, some would transfer from the weapon to her hand if he put it in her hand afterward. I think her hand was on top of his trying to stop him. That & him washing his hands are why there wasn’t more on him.
@andrewnajarian5994 I don't think it would transfer just by giving her the gun. I could see her hand on it as he shot though. Also, can't they test the trajectory of the bullet? What signs are there in the bathroom of the bullet and blood? Blood spatter and drops should show where she was actually shot. I do think he probably did it but there's also quite a bit of reasonable doubt. I feel like they didn't answer a lot of important questions.
The BF is shady as hell! He didn’t know who the guy was so he just walked up and immediately punched him?! Why would that be his first response? And he says that’s not characteristic of him but he punched the holes in the door? I’m sure he’ll blame it on alcohol but that’s no excuse, imo. The BF sounds like a loose cannon!
He didn't immediately punch him, he punches Matthew when he steps between him and his girlfriend and puts a hand on him. Unnecessary but it wasn't immediate. Either way it doesn't matter as he wasn't there when she died.
It's truly amazing that anyone would give a toss about what his mother has to say. She's not exactly neutral, is she? By the way, some women LOVE when the drama is FULL ON, and see two guys fighting over her. Sad, but true.
I was a qualified nurse for thirty years and do not believe Matthew would react the way he did - nurses see so many horrors we are trained to make use of emotional armour as a barrier when in the face of trauma so we can be effective. Sobbing and crying are not part of it. Even when a loved one dies or is hurt, we are busy assessing and evaluating the situation to see how best to roll out our skills. If there are unresolved feelings we do it later. If his reaction is authentic he would not last long as a nurse.
Yessssss!!!!!! ‼️🙌🏽🫶🏽 I'm not a nurse I did however want to be one ....I did complete a medical assistant program..and keeping emotions in check is necessary to be effective at helping whomever is injured stranger or loved one !!!! A dog bit my baby granddaughter my daughter unraveled but I kept calm to help my granddaughter & then the next day I cried and was angry!!! 🥺 In that moment I just needed to assist my granddaughter 🫶🏽
Oh, please. I have over 20 years experience investigating murders on a state and federal level but that does not mean I don't show emotion if it is A personal death. My niece is a PhD level nurse. She shows emotion in a personal situation also. Further, compassion, crying for the person who suffers is not evil and does not stop assessing abilities. End of story.
If you've become so cold and callous that someone you love dying in front of you doesn't cause an emotional reaction, you have no business being a medical professional. It's insane to compare a professional performing their job to a human being losing a loved one. There is a reason that people in the medical profession are not supposed to treat friends and family.
What a toxic love triangle. There is no way something good or healthy was coming out of these multiple situationships. Toxic to the core! The two guys she was dealing with were plagued with red flags. She was obviously not happy living in her own shell. Sad ending, specially for both set of parents involved.
I watched this last weekend, motive is still a bit of a mystery. Only thing that makes sense is that he was afraid she would eventually tell his wife about their affair (& he didn't want Alex holding that over his head). He was prescribing Alex meds; I could see a situation where if he refused to get her the drugs she wanted Alex might have threatened to talk to his wife. I'm wondering if he drove the 3 hours that day to do what he did to end it…& nothing that happened earlier that night actually mattered at all… On the other side - the trip back downstairs to his car makes me think that he did that to get his gun. That could indicate that he didn't decide to use it until that moment (or maybe he just needed to grab it when Alex wasn't in the car next to him). Who knows?
When you go out at that time of night, it’s nearly always to do with drugs. And she looks like she was waiting for him to come back from some kind of drug deal where he didn’t get what she wanted. She could have either threaten to expose him as some kind of drug dealer or threatened to expose the affair they had to his wife and he reacted and shot her and they made up a story. Proving out however will be difficult. Unless they checked the phone records and CCTV from whoever he went to meet that night. But what is frustrating is the shows sometimes they do just no research no investigation. Sometimes they checked the phones of the people involved and going to who they were last speaking to and who they had been regularly speaking to. Sometimes they just done. As if there’s just no investigation sometimes. That’s when the police themselves should be investigated.
They said they couldn’t unlock her phone, but can’t they get the phone records from the phone company. I’ve seen them do it in many other cases. I don’t feel the prosecution proved their case.
I’m in recovery. And I know that pace. And I know that disappointment when they come back empty handed. And the shrug from the other person who doesn’t understand addiction. Wow. I immediately went to this idea as well !!
Matthew fake cry! Shane " nothing violent , it's not in my character" but two holes in the wall and a punch in the face a t Matthew, that's violent vibes to me!
Literallllllyyyy though. When he said that I was like hun you already admitted to two different times you were violent in 10 minutes… it is 100% your character.
Matthew killed her. Seems pretty clear to me. He's a wolf in sheep's clothing. He's a nurse, you don't think this guy wasn't wearing gloves? Yeah ok. He held it to her and of course she tried to stop it, hence the residue on her. I'm sure this is super difficult for his family but the facts don't lie. He should have been home, 3 hours away, with his wife and children where he belonged. Rest is peace, Alex💔🥀🕊
They never said it was ok, everyone was trying to make her sound like a saint and they were just saying she knew he was married with four kids and still had an affair with him.
@ Ok. Regardless, Shane was not at the scene when she died. If the police thought he was a suspect they could have hired a hacker to break into Alex’s phone.
Wild that his parents enabled and excused their son cheating on his wife and 4 children. Cheating, especially with a married person is a very dangerous choice.
wow, she called him to save her from being assaulted, he sped to her rescue with a gun, and she shot herself with it… what a logical story, can’t think of anyone who wouldn’t believe that

@@Therezumee92 I agree with you 💯% that there was reasonable doubt in this case. That's why you never agree to a police interview in a situation like this without your lawyer present. "Anything you say can and will be used against you!" The police were doing their job and that's where Matt failed this one.
Given her past and current mental health, I believe Alex could have done this to herself. And if two medical examiners could not determine cause of death I'm not sure why jurors thought they could? As for Matthew, he is paying for his sins regardless of whether he did this or not. May Alex rest in peace. 🙏
I'm an RN specialist in mental health, antidepressants can have side effects like making the person aggressive or even more depressed , my impression is that Alex killed herself as a result of the medication secondary effects . There is nothing indicating that her ex boyfriend killed her. Also proof that she was mentally unstable is that her second boyfriend was aggressive with her punching holes at her apartment doors .An innocent man is in jail.
I just looked up metoprolol--what do you make of her being on that one? A beta blocker for heart issues or migraine. Is there some reason an addict would want that medication?
the nurse dude was married and out with another woman--- red flag he brought a gun and was fighting with her in the lobby... red flag he got her meds all the time and paid her bills--- red flag he was the only one there....red flag
I’ve got to disagree with most of the folks in the comments. I think it’s highly likely that she shot herself. Addictions, suicidal history, a violent boyfriend, she can’t hold down a job and clearly had some serious mental health problems. I think he panicked, he knew it was going to look bad for him because he had prescribed medications for her and had had a relationship with her. He made some bad choices in the moment, but I think he panicked. The so-called bathroom evidence is flimsy to say the least, I stand by his innocence.
I'm very confused why it is never addressed that when he went into her apartment he was wearing jeans and boots yet when the police get there he's in shorts and sandals! Where are the jeans and boots?
I don’t think they proved without a shadow of a doubt that Matthew was guilty. He doesn’t sound like a stellar guy- cheating on his wife but the deceased seemed to have a precarious emotional state
Way too many questions & reasonable doubt- for starters, he reached around the door to shoot her (blindly, yet perfectly) in the temple & that's why there's no blood splatter? And even though he washed his hands (there's more than one sink in that apartment, & they never mentioned the other one!) He still would've had gsr on his arm & sleeve- he couldn't have washed that off! Also, there was no mention of testing the distance at which the gun was fired from her head or the angle, I feel like those are pretty pertinent pieces of information for determining guilt. And if he was just "feeding her addiction" by refilling her meds, then why did he refill ALL of her meds- including the antidepressants? Then there's the whole door ring thing being underneath her, which has several possibilities. Her violent p$ycho bf could've busted that off beforehand on one of his "not-like-him" nights while fighting with her, it could've been kicked or shuffled around by the cops, paramedics, or even when the ME moved her body! Finally, and this is the one that gets me, the ME couldn't even rule her death one way or the other. It was ruled "undetermined." I don't know what that jury was thinking, but there's just too many questions left unanswered & too many things that don't point conclusively one way or the other!
