To me, this movie captivates real life issues that goes on in every day. Families around the world and some people are too ashamed to talk about it. And it needs to be talked about more so that it can be stopped.
The character of the mother has the audacity to send the rapist son upstairs to get his father? Even if she didn’t believe that, it was the son who was the predator. Why would she send her son to get the dad.
This is an insanely intense, unsettling, and unusual scenario, that got out of hand due to negligence, absence of self respect for oneself and others, a lack of discipline, and permitting yourself and the other person to continue such acts of atrocity. One was enabled the other implied assent, one more than the other. Watching how Ari explored such a strange and unexpected scenario is in fact unique, but allows the mind to wonder, how many people do get away at large with scenarios like this, if not worse, and do we permit it to happen, or do we say something about it?
Well, one thing that never changes in these "abuse" scenarios is that the mother never says anything about abuse in her home. She should've kept the book for "defense" purposes.
I wonder if the father initially was the aggressor … remember how he touched his face in the beginning, and he was all smiles. But cut to 14 years later, and the Son has become the aggressor. The dialogue in the last scenes, kind of alluded to the fact that the father turned him into this person. It was a very good short film. From the mother, actually knowing and hiding from the truth, to the way the father reacted to his son being a very monstrous figure (bathroom scene) This was done really well, disturbing content, but done well. Was interesting to see how abuse affects the family, especially when they swapped it making the parent the victim. Sorry for all the grammatical errors I use voice control
@@lifechangesThe son basically had a very extreme case of an oedipus complex. Most commonly its when a son has an unusually/ unhealthy high infatuation and attraction to their mothers. Cases in which a son has one for their father is so extremely rare & unlikely, that their barely documented if at all, probably because just as its potrayed in the movie, its something that never gets spoken up about or exposed. But it is possible.
His dad saw his erratic behavior he should have damn stopped it. Talked to someone. Got his damn son some help. He let it got too far. So both are at fault. The mom as well. U sat their turned that music up and let that boy rape your husband. How dare u how could u. The whole family is sick u ask me. Evil was amongst them. @@dswuretheswaggnificent6867
@@afenismama Exactly! I'm sick to my stomach watching this and I'm 10 minutes in so far. I had to pause and read the comments, because I thought this was a horror/sci-fi movie recap or something like that. Now I don't know what this sick ish is. I don't know why I was recommended this to watch. UGH... depending on the rest of the comments I read I might finish watching or not. I know I surely don't want to see anything like this ever again. Some ish you just don't need to see in life and this is definitely on that list.
So I wonder in the beginning of the movie when he caught his son playing with himself and told him it was normal and ok not knowing he was pleasing himself to his dads picture is what made him grow up like that. Not knowing he was really being sick and grew up that way
Although very disturbing, this is brilliantly executed and shows how this kind of abuse can happen within a family and rot it from the inside out. The role reversible is absolutely genius in showing how children who suffer at the hands of a parent or family member must feel, alone, shameful, and silenced. We can see how easily an adult feels helpless, so imagining how helpless a small child must feel in the same situation.
Angry that the mom never confronted the son until after it was too late to help the dad. It seemed that she felt more ashamed of the son behaving that way than she felt angered by the pain he caused the dad.
This movie is the equivalent of the movie about the man who kidnapped his daughter and hide her in the basement for years and had multiple kids by her lol
Heeellll-to-the-fcking-no! 2:24, I'm out!! I'm a grown man my mind ain't strong enough to watch this shit hell no! I need to sleep today, I got shit to do...Heeeeeelll-tooo-theeee-no!
😂😂😂 I’m Rollin’ 😂😂 That’s how I felt Brother.. Couldn’t take it.. In the beginning when I heard the sound effects I thought someone was running outside in nature lol & the look on pops face and how he handled that situation let me know something was off.. Then the photo.. omg 😂 I can’t
I remember seeing this years ago. Unfortunately I was able to understand it. It’s wrote this way to see what the child actually goes through. The father never said anything because a child never says anything and when they do nobody believes them. In majority of the cases the mother knows and never says anything to the abuser or stops them. I was able to understand it because unfortunately it was my life at one point.
This was written and directed by a white man named Ari Aster. I Googled him because I had a feeling a white man wrote this. Although I will say I think he just twisted this story and switched it from a child being molested by a parent to a "what if it was flipped around and a parent was being molested by their child scenario". When you look at it like that then it's just a point of view switch for shock value. Since, unfortunately this world we live in it is disgustingly common to hear of a parent (mostly fathers) molesting their child. So for shock element and a new take this man wrote it as the child molesting his father. It's all sickening, but he succeeded on the shock element with his twist on this scenario.
Someone in the comments said that they thought the father didn't say anything because he didn't want to mess up his reputation. I think he didn't say anything because who in the world would believe that a grown man is being "sxlly" abused by their child. This definitely was a crazy story.
ty for posting i have heard abt this short film and i love ari aster's work but this was such a hard watch "you know how i feel about locked doors" is crazy
I just finished watching this short movie. I must admit this is a switch on molestation. The only reason the father didn't come forward was because, he didn't want to ruin his reputation. Instead, he accepted what he knew wasn't right. You catch your son in the bed masturbating and don't know he's masturbating while looking at a pic of you. 😮 Not cool by any means. No concern, conversation or control of a jacked up situation. Your reputation is worth more than your morals? The wife had plans all along. The way she killed her son was bent up emotions held tight for over 10 years. Generational curses...
The father didn't tell because 9/10 he started doin it too tha son first the son didn't tell anyone at first nd as he got older he started craving it more than the dad that's why tha father was SO SO scared he created a MONSTER in real life it just shows how parents and family members can makes one's life TRAUMATIC IN THA END NT ONLY THA CHILD BUT THOSE AROUND THEM
I just feel so sorry for the father how he is feeling and how he can't just say and stand up for himself he probably just wants this to all end it's really sad and how the mother just stayed quiet and never done anything about it i just dislike how the son is doing all this its just messed up but as the father died the mother spoke up and started to speak and did something she killed him she just lost everything her husband and son
Stretching skin to your dad’s portrait is WILD. Dad should’ve at least been fake outraged when he caught his son shaking the dice. It would’ve eventually spared his own poop chute, and eventually his life. 😂
Because that’s how some parents/family act when it comes to sexual abuse. I work with someone who refuses to believe her daughter was molested and or raped by her older brother. Now the daughter no longer communicates with her. There are people who will simply refuse to be involved or believe😢
Really though? What about Aliens? Poltergeist? Pet Sematary? Plenty of movies where are the writers don't have first-hand experience with the subject matter
Everyone is freaking out that the mother says "everything is under control" and how the father isn't protecting himself and that's outrageous - the whole point is that this is how the child victim feels when she or he is victimized. Controlled, and helpless. Mothers do the same thing to their children.
This was a good movie. This been going on for years back in the days. I just don't understand that the mom knew it all this tim She didn't even say nothing into the end. Wow the whole family's crazy. I'm just glad that girlfriend didn't get married or had a baby by him.

@jonellew9772 why would anyone act any thing out in a pornography movie! I’m pretty sure you’ve seen a couple of those in your life! And probably have enjoyed the action.
Ohmy God!! That poor dad!even AFTER the tub scene and i thought my shaking would stop, the poor beautiful man comes down with his book and gets. "....whats that? Another book?" My heart ia gpnna exploe@😅😮😮
This is a somewhat 'dark picture 'which seeks to highlight molestation & abuse. It was very interesting how the writer & director went about telling the story especially how the father's actions turned him from abuser to victim which highlights how victims of abuse sometimes become abusers. The acting was excellent, very good film. We need to highlight and speck about these things in an effort to prevent and punish those who do commit such crimes.
This shows what a lot of children go through. Seeing An adult going through it is an interesting take on it. Some adults out there.Thinks it's okay to do these types of things, but if it has been done to them. These would be the effects.
