Hey man, glad you found and liked the video. I've been following flashpoint for a bit and really like what it's doing so of course I had to do a video using it. Thanks for your work on it!
Probably already know by now, but the stars of Cartoon Cartoon Summer Resort aren't just original characters. They actually are the protagonists of pilots that were shown on Cartoon Network, but were never greenlit to be full series.
Kudos for the postopia cameo. Thank you so much for this video, this genre of CN games were one of my favourites and everybody sleeps on it. Summer resort, Creepy TV, and The Envelopes please were the shit back as a kid. There was also the Hollywood horror/ Mayan mayhem Scooby Doo games tho that might’ve been more Warner Brothers.
Actually about the Cartoon Cartoon summer resort characters, none of the four are original; all of them appeared in various cartoons that were pitched to Cartoon Network as part of this contest known as 'the big pick' where ten cartoon pilots were played on the channel during an hour long programming block dedicated to the event and viewers would get to vote on which one became a full fledged series. Uncle Gus is from 'Uncle Gus: for the love of monkeys': ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QJNizWBXiVM.html (which was made by the same artist who made the big nate series) Longhair is from 'Longhair and Doubledome': ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Yt_p36zIOH0.html Vivian is from 'Foe Paws': ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3mTtJlBkack.html (Loud House creator Chris Savino is behind that one ) and Prickles is from 'Prickles the Cactus': ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_Jy019Y3ZpI.html Unfortunately all four of them ended up losing to 'Grim & Evil' which would eventually become the Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy after winning the big pick; the only other show that got picked up from the contest was 'what ever happened to robot jones?'. The rest ended up but a mere footnote in the history of cartoon network, apart from these four who at least got to star in their own game but even then people don't realize that they almost made the Cartoon Network roster so they might as well be forgotten.
The four playable characters from Summer Resort were from an annual promotional event CN put on. (They only did it twice.) They showed the pilot episode for five or six new shows, back to back, and you could call in and vote for which one would get picked up. I think "Mike, Lou, and Ogg" won the first year and "Megas XLR" won the second, but I'd need to get fact checked on that. But the playable characters were main characters from the first year's losing shows. Also, the Envelopes game was to coincide with a cartoon award show the network was putting on, that may or may not have been hosted by I. M. Weasel. But anyway... Oh man! Did I adore these games. Played them dozens of times. CN's site was my favorite website, these specifically were my favorite games. As a dumb kid, episode 2 took me forever lol. Thanks for this! Oh. And in regards to 2:40, those two shows debuted after Summer Resort.
First year of the cartoon contest was won by the Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy back in 2000, then by Kids Next Door in 2001, and finally by Megas XLR in 2002 (called Lowbrow back then).
Here's the pilots for everyone except uncle gus (he's entirely lost media): Longhair: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Yt_p36zIOH0.html Vivian: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3mTtJlBkack.html Prickles: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_Jy019Y3ZpI.html
thank goodness for people who strive to archive these games for the future. they deserve to be preserved. The Blue Falcon flash comic should also be preserved
Believe it or not, these are all Shockwave games, ik they don't look like one might associate with Shockwave though, so I can definitely understand the confusion. Especially considering fewer people put an emphasis on the fact that Flashpoint has more than just Flash games and animations. Great video btw
If you want to know more about Creep TV, a developer commentary can be found on RU-vid. (EDIT: aww, I can't find it anymore. Must have been taken down then...) And if you ever do a video on more Cartoon Network games, some I recommend are "Flight of the Hamsters", "Bookin Cook", "Tom's Trap-o-matic".
You need a bittorrent client (qbittorrent, deluge, etc.) and just download and open the .torrent file from the first link in the description. If you want the infinity version (A minimalist build of flashpoint that downloads games as you want to play them) just download the .zip and extract it anywhere and it should work out of the box.
