I wish they’d buy the mall and put a bunch of businesses in it and have them 80s themed and rename it starcourt mall I guarantee business will start flowing from there
I can imagine the confusion seeing half the mall blocked off because the other side is basically a different time period. What were your thoughts before you found out about the filming? It is sad malls are dying but there are still many that are doing well. I love going to the mall :)
I grew up in the 80s when malls were a central part of the community. To this day I have "mall dreams" where I'm exploring some kind of vast mall complex with residential sections, indoor & outdoor regions, secret passageways & elevators, etc.
That was my childhood mall too. I even worked at Express for a while. Now, every time we drive by there to eat at the Golden Corral, my heart sinks a little. My girls know Mall of GA & Discover Mills but they will never the grandeur that Gwinnett Place had.
Holy shit bro! I just saw this video and that was MY mall too! Haha, every other weekend my momma would take me and my lil bro there as she shopped. My pops and my cousin too. Same with Northlake Mall and South DeKalb Mall. If it was my pops or cousin they would drop me off at the arcade and go do who knows what back then. We prolly passed each other once or twice in one of these damn malls, hahahah. Had no clue they used it as the set of Stranger Things. So awesome man! Thanks for the video!
mall of my childhood. i miss it being alive. haven't been there in a few years so it's nice to see a video of the place. loved watching a video of someone talking about the mall this way. sometimes i feel silly for being nostalgic about this place, but it definitely is special.
I live near this extremely creepy old mall and no one talks about it , so many stores are closed and it smells like dead fish in there ! When I saw this video It reminded me of the mall i live by but it’s worse . Btw greetings form Houston tx
That was also my childhood mall! We visited it yesterday and it is all but empty😥we saw 5 people total. It was the first time in 20 years for me going into the mall. Sorry about your mom
I remember when this place first opened and it was almost impossible to get a good parking space on the weekends here (even though that was a long time ago). Wonder what condition it would be in now if two other large malls had not been built in Gwinnett county right up the road.
Everything you said in this video while recording is exactly how I feel. I lost my parents back to back within the last 2 years and all I do is think of the good memories I have with them and going to the malls was such a happy experience with them back in the 80s. This generation we have now will never know the happiness of the 80s era's mall. Christmas time was the best!! Thank you for making this film. Made me smile.
Great video, man. Love the background story. I visited this mall recently as a stranger things road trip stop and....wow. Really takes me back. Shame there are so many shuttered stores.
Thank you for posting. This was my childhood mall also & I found your video while searching for Gwinnett Place Mall on RU-vid after my dad died. I was looking for ways to connect with him. Many of my best memories were walking through Gwinnett Place with him. Your video hooked me when you said it’s a spiritual experience. Through the eye of your camera I had a “spiritual experience” as well. Thank you.
In the UK we have ‘shopping centres’ but they are essentially malls we have one called Intu Chapelfield near me it’s always busy. It wasn’t built long ago but has a nice aesthetic so I love it.
I heard Gwinnett County is buying the mall now. I'm not sure what to expect from that, but its probably better than turning the mall into a group of condos, which is what I heard what the previous owners were trying to do. Watching this video brings me a huge amount of happiness and it makes me super sad to see it in such a state. I've been wanting to go see what it looks like in 2020/2021, but I can't get anybody to go with me. Since the body was found most of my friends/family are scared of the place =( .
Awesome! Check out these forgotten 80’s hits: “Kayleigh” by Marillion, “Should I Love You” by Cee Farrow, “Maybe This Day” by Kissing the Pink, and “Shiny Shiny” by Haysi Fantayzee
Dayzed Gaming Any thoughts on them so far? Also, check out “Songs For Swinging Larvae” by Renaldo and the Loaf, “Hello Skinny” by The Residents, and “Zarah” by Nina Hagen.
Im only 16, me and a lot of my friends still go to the local columbiana mall (which just got a dave n busters!) I've been going there since i was a kid and it's still bustling and full of life. So don't worry, not all malls are dying. Also gwinette is owned by moonbeam capital, and they dont take good care of their mall's. They own another mall in my city, columbia place and its doing just as bad if not worse. If gwinette had better management then they could probably be saved, but moonbeam would have to sell them and the only way I see them doing that is if they go bankrupt. Moonbeam is a sketchy company and hopefully they go away soon because i'd like to see all of there malls sold and revitalized before its too late. P.s, gwinette place is a beautiful place, you had/have a good mall.
Very very sad what happened to Gwinnett Place mall. I always thought it had a better look and feel than the mall of Georgia. I absolutely hate the design of the mall of Georgias food court. Loud and echoing like grand central station. Impersonal, rigid, and gives off vibes of a high school cafeteria with an attitude that you’re not supposed you enjoy your meal in a comforting setting, but just to satiate your appetite so you can hurry up finishing your meal and spend money on other things. The mall of Georgia simply was designed with an attitude I don’t like. The Gwinnett place mall was designed with a different attitude altogether. It had a much more comforting, personal, and welcoming feel to it. Very sad what happened to it. I really liked 80s style malls.
It's sad to see the mall is dying... Here in the Philippines we have lots of huge super malls very huge like the SM Supermalls, Robinson Malls and Ayala Malls
I was also a mall rat at this mall! I worked at the Merry Go Round. I spent so much time there with my friends all through middle school and high school. Such great memories.
They built that over a trailer park. My moms grandparents lived in that trailer park and played there all the time. And then the built this mall. My mom said she came here all the time when she was a kid and a teenager. And now she said she is bringing me shopping thereeeeeee ahhhhhhh. I’m like a really big fan of stranger things so I’m so excitedddddddd
*Aidan the Alien* Can confirm there’s a *tiny* bit of the set left, but when I say that, I mean it looks abandoned. Unlike in this video, that place is completely blocked off now, which is a lil suspicious... you think they’re filming a season 4 in there once again? You still have things like the old Taco Bell logo and such, but other than that, it’s completely empty. I went there yesterday.
@@DayzedGamingDG Before the Xbox, Playstation or P.C., the best video games were at the arcade. I remember playing hours and hours of Street Fighter, Tekken, The Simpsons and TMNT. The good old days. 🕹🕹😁
