EP I ON BANDCAMP LINK IN DESCRIPTION :) Hainbach came around after his London show at IKLEKTIK the other day, We didn't really know what we were going to do but Darren had emailed me about a gumtree listing of a strange speaker to be taken away to save from being thrown away! i gave a donation to the churches charity, i didn't know when i was able to get it because Hainbach came over, luckily johnny offered to go get it the day Hainbach was here! Hainbach started jamming with the ELKA rhythm machine and it started to actually work and after a while we realised we could probably bash out a fun vintage Krautrock inspired EP! so that is exactly what we did :D you can get the EP on bandcamp! link in the description.

There's really nothing like this in the United States and I have to admit I'm a bit Jealous considering I grew up with a love for music creating music and have a heavy background in telephony. I've worked on some of the last remaining analog telephone selectors in America before everything went digital as any early 20 something year old. Nobody finds a reason to save and preserve this technology like they do in the U.K.. The amount of work that went into analog communications is astronomical and the engineers etc deserve to be remembered. The younger generation has no idea how good they have it. Much respect.

It believe you have a Compton Rotofon loudspeaker, originally developed by the John Compton organ company for use with their electronic church organs, and later used by Makin Organs who took over the electronic organ activities of Compton when they went out of business in the late 1960s. Makin were still making Rotofons in 1983 (a local church in Bishop Auckland had two in their exceptionally large Makin organ installed that year). The idea was to produce the "chorus" sound of a traditional pipe organ when many stops were selected, which early analogue electronic organs could not achieve with static loudspeakers. Easily done today in software with digital electronics.

Somewhat unrelated but have you heard of Rotary Subs ? They're essentially a fan with blades moving around to the sound to move massive amounts of air to and from the room, functionally behaving like a gigantic sub... In most cases enough to make walls resonate ! While less of a music creation tool, that could be a cool thing to test out in the museum
@chesthairascot3743

Paul from PS Audio has an interesting commentary on those- He suggests they're better for movie-type sub-bass effects since they're rather noisy and need to be hidden away.

I'd say you can get pretty close with a hi-fi system with room correction. I left a comment in the main thread about how shocked I was to hear the sound rotating around my living room. It's like those binaural sounds your supposed to listen to with headphones, except my speakers are 8 feet away.

This makes me want the flying cars we were promised. We all know 70's Kraut Rock sounds the best over the hi-fi system in a flying car. We'll put the newest data disk on and fly onto the Trans European (Sky) Expressway and jam out. Also the speaker looks like a contraption to throw snowballs (or rocks) not very fast while playing music. Two great tastes that taste great together. Maybe we could mount it on the flying car for maximum future integration.

@@LOOKMUMNOCOMPUTERI'm with you on the cost of electricity but those Calor Gas heaters are a bugger for condensation as a by-product of the combustion process. Around all the vintage electronics more moisture is not a good thing. A solution I had to find quickly when my gas central heating packed up, and a single electric radiator was costing a tenner a day, was a cheap chinese knock-off Webasto diesel heater. A tenner of red diesel lasts me a few days and the intake & exhaust are external to the house.

I really hope he gets picked up for cameos in videogames and movies. He would fit right in to the cyberpunk technodystopia esq universe. I can think of about a hundred animes that could have utalized his exuberance for their "ancient technology" shop keeps. All he needs is a couple guitar riffs and he could pretty much sell me anything.

I always found it ironic and in a way sad that Laurens Hammond hated Don Leslie for designing a speaker that not only made the Hammonds sound SO MUCH better, but actually helped to make the Hammonds a success. Hammond actually decreed that ANY Hammond employee who even mentioned Leslie's name (or worse, was caught with a Leslie attached to his own Hammond at home) would be fired without severance or benefits. There is no sweeter sound than a Hammond B3 played through a Leslie....and no newer electronic emulation has ever been better than the 600+ pounds of heavy weight equipment of the B3/Leslie combo.
