Wow! A very welcome live show featuring a little Rattus, Heroes, Black & White, some singles and a track from The Raven! It helps fill in the gaps from the other live recordings available online. You can hear the audience clapping along, enjoying themselves immensely. The chance to hear 'Outside Tokyo' played live in Osaka, Japan, is indeed a rare treat! I saw the band for The Raven, and then The Gospel, tours in the early 80s and still remember those shows vividly. Thanks to the Men in Black, and Cheers, Dorwen Dlandoff.
@StanlyStud They play exactly what they played when Hugh was with them. with the odd new track in there. I went to see them on the Black and White tour a few years back. Walked out half way through. They are just going through the motions now. The Alarm were the support band and they were better. Much better!
The Stranglers are not remotely "embarrassing" today. We would all prefer the Stranglers of 78-79, but nobody in their right mind would want the Stranglers of 89-90 - cover versions and 60s-style rubbish. For "embarrassing' see Cornwell's Sons of Shiva and John Cooper Clarke projects.
Yes, their sound took a noticeable change during 1979, something that can be heard at this live performance. Dave's keyboards lean more into synths than the hammond organ did and Hugh has no distortion on his telecaster.
