Imagine yourselves, a ten-year-old kid, listening to this music played by you elder brothers. Learning the lyrics by heart. Bewitched by the sound of their bass and keyboards. Listening to it again and again, and it gives me goosebumps everytime.
Ever since I bought the record on the day it was released its been my favourite stranglers album and in my top 5 all time.. Ever track excellent!! Great band!!
Agree; Lost interest during the Paul Roberts/John Ellis years (bland, stodgy, AOR, and Roberts' sub-Iggy Pop preening and gurning annoyed me), but they are back on form with Baz (who even plays a black Telecaster!). Going to see them in Bristol in March, and looking forward to it. People say 'Bring back Hugh', but I thought the last two albums before he left, Dreamtime, and Ten, were absolutely awful; they'd run out of ideas and enthusiasm, and Hugh and JJ were not getting on at all. I think by then Hugh's exit was inevitable. Now, with Baz Warne, they are a tight four-piece enjoying themselves, and re-energised.
+Peteinblack Totally agree, towards the end of the Cornwell period it was getting pretty bad. Check out his solo stuff on here, it is embarrassing. The Ruts DC are supporting on this tour, so should be a good evening. They were the first band I ever saw live, Hammersmith Odeon March 1981 on the MIB tour!
+Beefheart1 That was the band at their peak in my opinion. If you want to watch something amusing yet depressing check out Hugh Cornwell "Totem & Taboo" on here.
Thanks for posting this great video! I first saw The Stranglers in Hamburg, Germany in 1979 it was crazy. We were so crushed and almost strangled by the amount of small space and very dangerous at the time to be in the Hamburg night life concert. I survived!
I saw then on the second night of the tour in Inverness and they were outstanding. I don't think they even acknowledges the audience until after Enough Time. Then came the banter and a load more classics. Have to say Baz is the perfect front man for the band too. I also managed to grab a limited vinyl edition of Black and White, signed by the band.
+Andy Marsh Hi Andy, there's a few other songs from Grip onwards from this gig if you check other stuff I've uploaded - not the whole show but probably 80+% of it.
+misterpunk that's fantastic unfortunately the night I went Baz had food poisoning and they cut the gig short by 30 minutes, but they're back down here in August, anyway thanks again, superb work!!
