A short 40-minute train ride on the old Maeklong Railway into Samut Sakhon Province in central Thailand you can find yourself just across the Chin River from the small community of Tha Chalom.
This community was historically populated by Chinese Immigrants and its economy relied heavily on the river. Today, this community has found a way to hold onto its way of life, while still embracing life in the modern world. Part of what sets the community of Tha Chalom apart from other small towns in Thailand is its fabulous collection of street art. You can travel around the town easily by hiring a pedicab rider (som law teep) and they will show you all of the best spots in the city to experience their amazing collection of street art.
The community of Tha Chalom is not without modern amenities, like restaurants and cafes, they are just done in a very Tha Chalom way. We found a popular local restaurant and cafe that provided me with one of the best cups of coffee and hands down the best waterfront view I have had in a very long time.
