I am really curious to know the intention of the person taking the video. Someone shooting so casually in the 80's is such a rare thing. I really envy his passion. Thanks for uploading it for a larger audience. It really made my day. I was born in 1998, but viewing this was as amusing as it would be to a 80's born. It was like a time travel to the past.

This footage refreshed my silent memories..felt emotional while watching, as I was 10 in 1985, residing in Chawl near Worli Naka in Bombay (Mumbai). I feel South Mumbai is quite same now but rest everything has changed a lot. It is now super populated, filthy, traffic everywhere and even people are less friendly. Back then though the average standard of living was bad but it was very cosmopolitan, more accommodating, more freedom, more safe and had more friendly people. I left Mumbai few years back but still feels as a Mumbaikar everywhere. Thanks Sir for sharing this beautiful nostalgic video !

Wonderful. This video is s GEM. I was always curious to see the 70s and 80s of Indian Streets. This man's thought was much ahead of his time, he probably didn't know that there would be create a trend of vlogging in future. I wish to travel back to this era. 1985 was my first ever visit to Bombay. I was 7 years old. Stayed at the Bombay Port guesthouse in Colaba. I’m 45 now and Bombay is Mumbai and radically different.

Nothing has changed ! Except cars, cellphones and fashion ! Mumbai is still the same in 2020 !! Wow !!

No two wheelers on road, No mobile phones in hand... The noise of the city sounded soothing back then

This time our great Kishore Kumar was alive, maybe recording some masterpieces or relaxing at home or doing concerts. Less bullshits, easy life cannot say better life that depends. Less traffic,so many things..... I was born a year later.... Nyways good to see classics like this. Maybe in 2055 that is 35 years from now lot will change and our current videos will be classic. Many roaming, walking are old, dead, migrated.... No globalisation so swadeshi products, local goods were mostly available. TV, AC, Refrigerator were prized possession. No internet, no social media, no cell phones, etc etc...... So many thoughts......

This was the Bombay which i used to love. Some of the sweet memories came back.I was born during the end of 80s, Saw the city before it changed after 2000. Thank u for this video sir. Purani yaadien taaza Hogaye.

I was a teenager in Bombay then. India had won the Benson and Hedges cup in Aus that year. I remember the “Down under India is thunder” banners there. Shastri’s Audi car ride in the stadium after his Champion of Champions award was legendary.

I have never visited Mumbai. Or i have never gone out of kerala,my home state and tamil nadu. But these videos of old years make me nostalgic. I am fond of Videos of old age from anywhere in the world. I make visions of old and new age in my thoughts. Where may be peoples in these videos right now? I need a time machine...

No one has a phone in their hands, how much life is there, it will be very comfortable, I was born in that period 1992, I remember my childhood days very much, I wish we would go back to the same era again.

It's humbling and downright awe inspiring for me to witness the significance of this video. My dad was in Mumbai somewhere in the city while this man was filming in 1985. Crazy for me to think about but so cool to get a glimpse of what my father witnessed throughout his time in this beautifully chaotic city he once called home. Thank you for the upload, it truly does mean a lot.

Chawls been replaced by tall towers and I miss those premier taxis by which I used to go home from school sometimes, even the victorias are one of my childhood memories ..thanks for taking us in those times.

bom in the 80 s was so good less traffic more space now its all congested one cud reach down town from santacruz in 35 mins have good memories

And the back through crawford market to bhendi bazar.. You took me down memory lane.. You have mentioned this video is from 1985.. 😊 I was in the 6th standard that time.. I stayed in Mazagoan and grew up in these area where you have done the video.. Those fiat taxis , Lambretta and Bajaj scooters on the road.. Best shot you have taken is the Yezdi bike with a side car and the whole family riding on it.. It just brought tears in mi eyes because my dad had the same bike with side car and we use go riding on it.. Cozy was the name of the company who use to at that time fit side cars on motorcycles and scooters.. Also the street vendors from VT station to fountain were my regular visit to buy things.. I was only 5 in 1985, but still remember the time in between 1985 to 1990 when I used to travel in that taxi with my family, I use to fight to have that front seat of the taxi, also the double decker bus, use to have those peanuts and bhel puri at chowpaty.... Lovely memories .... No fear - No worries - No mobile phone - For a common man when video camera were used mainly for marriages Thanks for sharing sir.

i remember Bombay in the 80s. Good old memories. I was only nine but still remember a lot of the places and sounds. Good times, no cell phones!

I was 25 years old then, used to live in Bandra, drive my father's Premier Padmini around town, go to Talwalker's gym (Mahim) worked at SEEPZ for TCS. Left Bombay in 1989 and only visited Mumbai ONCE in this century (2018). _Could barely recognize the city. I miss the Bandra I grew up in, with cottages everywhere and clean air (when I was a child in the early 70s I would look out at the sea and could see the horizon, today one usually cannot see further than a mile out, the air quality was so bad in 2018 even next to the sea). And after living in the US all these years the traffic and crowds are difficult to handle. I watch these videos with a lot of nostalgia, the past was wonderful especially when you're young 🙂_

Thanks for sharing the video. I had smile on my face throughout while watching it. I was around 8 years old living in Bombay (now it is called Mumbai). Enjoyed seeing the old Bombay of which I have fade memories. It was quite free from vehicular traffic less populated Bombay in those years. Now it is over populated with People and Cars, hardly any space to walk and drive vehicles around. I like the old name of the city "Bombay"! God bless the City and people living in the city.

Mumbai is same now as it was before. Nothing has changed apart the dressing, food & cars. The famous Mohammedali road, Dadar, Mahim, Colaba, Bycullla, Dharavi, Kalbadevi street etc all are same. People are more friendlier than before.

Nostalgic! The bellbottoms were getting finished and smaller bottoms were started. The moustache wer like Kamal hasan and lessening of hair setting like Amitabh was in vouge. Mumbai was the hub of new trends and salwar kurta was getting introduced even for the middle aged women. Earlier the attire was meant for unmarried girls. But it seems to be starting point of that fashion for married women. Girls and Jeans were hardly seen. Guavas were seen means, was it Nov / Dec? Such a vibrant city.... At CST the crowd was there, running non stop, but they were at leisure as compared to IT sector running for their homes now a days. Oh! CST! How one could have imagined to make happen 2006 and 2008 in this city, pity and sad!

Beautiful video. For those who think life was bliss then, let me say that a lot of things have become easier now. Life was tough tben. Bombay was very filthy with slums all around, defecation on most streets outside of South Bombay, and corruption all around with the underworld controlling the economy. How things have changed... technology has made it possible for people to be more aware. For the generation born later, ur seriously blessed to have more opportunities today than ever before. use ur present to make a better tomorrow .. ❤

Shows clearly Bombay was already overcrowded in 1985. Too crowded and noisy for me with the incessant honking. I believe it was ok till around 1960 or so. I dare not say anything about 2023!

What was happening in Mumbai/ India then ? Release of big films such as 'Ram teri ganga maili' , 'Meri jung' and 'Aakhir kyon?' . Indiraji had died a few months ago and the country had a new and a young PM, Rajiv. Those were the simple days.
