The Strokes were so influential to the revival of rock music. If not for them, modern rock would've just continued to be solely mainstream shit ala Linkin Park, Maroon 5 and Nickelback.

I fucking loved the Strokes in my late teens. I had the chance of seeing their first two gigs in London, at the Barfly and at a mini festival with Trail of Dead, Peaches and Rocket from the Crypt. I still have the Modern Age EP. Good times.

I never understood why Interpol would have never broke without the Strokes until I read "Meet Me in the Bathroom" by Lizzie Goodman and now this video makes more sense

I just think it fails not to mention that although the album did not sell what was expected, several of the songs on the album were previously downloaded on Napster, a new phenomenon that changed the way music distribution in the music industry works. I remember the hype around the band (before the album was released) because I had already listened to some songs I downloaded on Napster. At the time there was a rumor that the name of the album Is This It was a joke with the fact that the band was already known before the album reached the shelves of the stores and the question Is This It was about whether the album was really worth anything.

after listening to this landmark album of them, i can definitely feel their influence on this century's garage/alt/etc. rock songs. i can really feel that Will Toledo's/Car Seat Headrest's Twin Fantasy is VERY influenced by this album

I'm probably the only person who thinks First Impressions of Earth is their best record. I do like the first two as well, but the albums after FIoE have been awful (in my opinion).

Saying that Libertines likely wouldn't exist without The strokes is a bit of a stretch...Especially since most of the Up the bracket material was already ready by mid-2001.

ok coming from a nu metal fan I can say I love the garage scene. and this is probably my favorite album of all time. sure im into the deftones, system of a down, korn, and pod, but I can sure say the strokes stood out from the rest and made an amazing album. (mainstream nu metal sucks tho) limp bizkit, crazy town, linkin park, ect

Too bad their next couple of albums are not as good as this.

First two albums are great but the rest of their output falls flat. No band ever had it easier than the strokes did (and still do). This band could release an album of Michael Bublé covers and they'd still sell out stadiums. Crazy.

indie-kid bubblegum pop music we all have nostalgia for. It's nice, but it's on the same level of stuff like The Ramones who wore the fashion of a style they didn't sound like.

aaaaaand history has not been kind to the Strokes. They turned out pretty terrible.

THE LIBERTINES CAME BEFORE THE STROKES, they hate the strokes and were already signed when Strokes released their debut. They did not were influence by The Strokes.

What an overrated album. These rich kids just wanted to get a band together with daddies money and become rock stars, and then everyone hails this mediocre album as a classic? Utter bollocks.

"The Strokes may not have saved rock and roll".. That's right. Nothing seminal about this album. Like Ok Computer it confirmed that innovative rock albums had become a subgenre and that the current "it" rock band could no longer be the face of music. U2 and Coldplay were the only ones that came close in the 00's, and they basically did heritage rock/pop.
