I will admit, I still think somewhat often about the first time I lost to this in a pub, as i am just going throughout my day, not even thinking about DOTA. My team crushed for about 30 mins, then suddenly were unable to show on the map without being instantly one shot. Dude never left his base and singlehandedly carried the game. In nearly 2 decades of playing that was one of the absolute most devastating defeats.
Snipin's a good job, mate! It's challengin' work, outta doors. I guarantee you'll not go hungry - 'Cause at the end of the day, long as there's two people left on the planet, someone is gonna want someone dead.
Considering it mostly practiced against itself with perfect reaction time and such, it does make sense Sniper would rise (given his mostly "undodgeable" damage). Still a very funny happenstance, we pubs were definitely right all along! Also, I thought the reason illusions weren't allowed in OpenAI's games was to nerf the AI... Did I make that up?
I know these videos will probably tend to favor 1s & 2s but i really am looking forward to some videos focused on the offlane! 3s and 4s need some love. I think Broodmother would be an interesting one since the threat of brood last picks has defined certain competitve metas. Enigma would also be an obvious iconic choice. Thanks for the videos Baumi. Hope the new game does well.
Yeah would love to see a vid of a 3 next as I think thats the role that hasnt really been covered. There are some really iconic 3s. Enigma or Tidehunter comes to mind.
just got back into dota after years. it still feels the same and its nice to have all the heroes now. back in beta it was super limited. 2011 was so long ago!
Biggest mistake you've done. That was your chance to have a free life. Now you've just lost the next 4 years worth of your life from spending your time with this game.
@@intelektshualday3496 I'm on 6 acres in the country. self employed. I'm living my dream and probably someone elses. games are just to help take my mind off of the slave grind of life. overwatch has been what i have been playing but i hate myself for playing that game after greed had ow1 deleted. its not the same game. coming back to dota is refreshing and im so glad it feels the same. map is new but oh well. feels like it did in beta and thats just a huge plus for me. Chess is my all time favorite game and playing dota always gave me that chess feel. I love it. Going to try not to spend too much time playing but the competitive itch is still there. dota still scratches.
because the kit design is perfect as it is - aura mana regen, low cd aoe+slow, low cd 1 target disable, and another massive AOE slow and damage. it is super generic and fits any team.
Sniper's gameplay centers around capitalizing on opponents' mispositioning and lack of coordination. This tends to happen more frequently in lower-level pub matches, making him a dominant pick there. However, in the professional scene, teams are highly coordinated, and players rarely make such mistakes, which is why Sniper isn't a common choice in tournaments. Additionally, Sniper appears to be designed as an entry-level hero with straightforward mechanics, offering limited opportunities for the kind of dynamic plays that are essential in professional Dota.
What about "opponent missposition" is capital of sniper? Capital of Sniper is actually opposite - his capital is his own position. And team should have a way to protect their position from enemy initiation, this why for example sniper extra good in pair with Disruptor who is best support for sniper (Provide vision, provide counter-initiation ultimate, provide initiation glimpse, have zoning tool in from of static field)
@@erfarkrasnobay This. Sniper lives and dies depending on his own position. That's why in order to play sniper well one must be very aware of distance and position - if you know the absolute minimum distance you can dish out damage while still being able to retreat, you will be able to play sniper well. If you underestimate the distance, you will lose many opportunities to damage enemies and possibly get kills. If you overestimate it, you'll get killed in a second before being able to do any damage at all
Since you talked about the pub builds... I wished you talked about the time right after aghs change (2019) where sniper was mainly picked in pubs as 4. And people were rushing tranquil into Aghs. Sometimes a rod of aton in between.
Hey Baumi.. Just a shout-out to say thanks for taking the time and putting in the hard work to make these incredibly entertaining and nostalgic vids. We appreciate you!
There was a time that I wanted to play Sniper as a support in pubs, my idea was that I could focus on constantly harassing opponents during the laning phase with his extra range. The problem was, as you pointed out, that I'd be useless by mid- to late-game, even if I did make things a little easier for my lane partner. Even still, out of all the "right-click to win" heroes, Sniper was a little more fun for me to try out on the rare occasions I picked a carry.
i used him as support and he is my highest winrate hero at 58%, atos and blink and aganim is all you need, and since he can farm very fast using shrapnel its quite doable.
Coming back to suggest Lina the Slayer again. She's been a support, a mid, and a carry, sometimes all at the same time. I think she'd have a very interesting dota story.
@@fendysusanto876Support with ult which works very well 20% of the time... And remained as such despite so many changes. CM just can't ever get into any position which is not 5 Lina is more interesting for sure
Literal Baumi jumpscare. I did not touch dota for several years up until this video and I did not even realize that it was voiced by my favorite dota 2 content creator from the past. Very nice video. Thank you for bringing back memories and nostalgia.
It’s hard for me to justify to paying money for twitch subs or YT joins, but I have money on my steam and I’ve been wanting to support u in some way for this so I went ahead and bought sweet dreams Alex. I love the vibe and can’t WAIT to try it this weekend
I grew up in the local internet café with dota 1 where Sniper was played with S & Y, Lothar's Edge, Buriza, Monkey and Rapier. Top it off with a Satanic and it's a wrap. Good times.
Damn I just happened to come across this video randomly. Then I was surprised to see Baumi at the end. I missed you man. Seeing Micke in this vid brings me back to the old Heroes of Newerth days. I used to watch you guys alot back then. I was never really in the Dota 2 scene, but seeing you guys transition into this game kinda make me happy for you. 🍻
Randomly came across your previous vids, and when i heard the voice and was "Is this baumigames?" And it was you 🤣 love to be back to your content used to watch you a ton! Good luck at your game release
I think sniper's main weakness has always been that his ultimate is fundamentally at odds with the rest of his kit. He relies on constantly hitting his opponents with right clicks, yet his ultimate requires him to stop right clicking for the cast time and it's damage is usually outclassed by the damage he can deal from just attacking during that time. Its only really benefit is its range (and its ability to inflict magic damage against ethereal targets or to target heroes that are about to become invisible ) Its essentially unusable for large portions of the game and sniper would be a lot stronger if it were reworked to simply give a damage/range buff, even at the cost of reduced attack speed, it would provide a much more capable hero. Its very telling that the best performance the hero had was when the ultimate wasnt levelled at all.
Yeah I've often thought it would be cool if Sniper was the ranged version of Tiny, more damage and range as he levels at the cost of attack speed. Would make him more of an actual sniper. Then his abilities could be about the cases where someone gets too close, more things like the grenade.
@@ChezzyKnytt agreed, he's usually built more like a "machine gunner" than a "sniper". He should maybe have a "ghille suit" ability or something... But then that would be turning another of his most commonly built items into an ability (like they did giving him grenade which works just like hurricane pike)
Man. Sniper, Techies, and Broodmother were my favorite dota2 heroes when I used to play (many) years ago. I'd love to see a brood video. I was never great at the game, but the fact that I could take some of my game knowledge from other games and implement them into a moba was amazing. All 3 just play so unique. Loved the techies video. Love this video. These heroes were the reason I put hundreds of hours into dota2 and no other moba ever got more than a few dozen hours
Bro I havent watched a Dota video in 5 years but IMMEDIATELY recognized Baumi's voice. I remember watching your content a few years back. Great job on the production.
Good video about an all time favorite among the pubs! I have a friend that always insisted in a greed support 4 sniper that rushed Aghs. Although it was very inconsistent, it had its moments to shine
I've played 2 total Dota 2 games in my life. Yet for some reason, I've enjoyed watching all of these videos. Idk what's wrong with me but these are very compelling.
Regarding the Cloud9 game at 30:00, their draft also had no built-in stuns. So once Cloud9 fell behind there was nothing they could do to stop VG from walking all over them with Gyro and Dark Seer
Fun watch! Just like to point out at 50:58 the take aim active doesnt double snipers total attack range but just the range given by take aim(so 200/400/600/800).
there was actually a period where sniper could go mid maxing his q, building necronomicon3 with agh stun. it was actually good in pubs but never was famous. probably because people liked build more into carry. that was the moment i really liked playing sniper
I've watched Baumi since the OG days, we chatted on stream about Germany YEARS ago hahaha. I'm surprised I remember that, wouldn't be surprised if he didn't.
I don’t remember the patch, I think it was around 2015-2016 where Sniper and Troll were so broken it was insane. Couldn’t play a single pub game without one of those two in it.
These videos are so good Baumi, because they make the difference between pub games and competitive play very clear. Great strat on this one and VERY entertaining!
Holy shit the face reveal caught my off guard. I used to watch your dota LP vids years ago and was about to search up your old channel once I was done with the video. Good to see you're doing well, baumi. Love the video.
Hi. I just found your channel and find the content amazing. Next few days I will be on a binge spree to watch all your videos. Btw. I don't know what other heroes you are already/still planning to cover, but personally I would be really interested in the history of axe and/or dazzle. My personal favorite heroes. Much love
a idea for the channel make a vote: which should be the next hero for story telling. btw good job i like your videos specialty dota but its ... :) good luck with the channel
I didn't play Dota 2 since it's inception, but I surely remember Sniper being a menace when I joined, and to this day he continues to be an absolute menace when unpunished
pub players in 2001: sniper is good because you can max headshot and play as a machinegun and dominate with the high damage pro players 20 years later: I'm going to try this machinegun build...
Amazing video. This showed me the reason Dota never succeeded over League ironically was balancing. You have these insanely game breaking champs (like all mobas do) but because Dota had so much more freedom, you had “Pub stompers” a term I didn’t even know existed until now. But it’s basically taking the extremes of other mobas and making them more extreme. Sucks but yeah I wish Valve took care of this the same way they lost Auto Chess to other companies..
