"Byzantine" empire doesn't exist. It was not any continuation of the eastern roman empire. It WAS the eastern roman empire up until 476. After that it was THE Roman Empire.
Weird that you brought up decolonisation and the downfall of the British Empire in the 18th century, even though that didnt happen until the mid 20th century. Britain's strength and dominance only increased during the 19th century after defeating Napoleon and establishing itself as THE colonial empire in the world. Reaching it's territorial height of around 1/4 of the world's landmass in 1920.
i think he just brings up every countries downfall and here he didn't mean that the British empire fell in the 18th century but rather that at one point it did fall
To be honest while Britain was very rich it never had quite the same military might or cultural influence even at it's peak, in fact it is already very generous to give it the spot of "strongest" just for it's economic prowess. The most questionnable place would be the Russians, as they surely never reached the top in any significant indicator albeit perhaps population.
It took the whole europe to beat france. Later france beat russia china along britain only one defeat agains what will become germany and accomplished that while being what russia it currently is a strong power with no ally
The British empire have no proof of being the "strongest" as it did ALL of his war with the need and help of France. Also unlike the British empire, the French empire was fighting all of Europe even after a revolution and it didn't had colonies to support it at that time(except little islands in Americas)
1.- Spanish Empire didn't slave the indigenous natives. 2.- Spanish Empire hadn't colonies, they were Spain. 3.- Spanish Empire didn't steal gold. Only 20% went to Spain as taxes like IVA, the rest was used in their cities, roads, churchs,... 4.- Spanish Empire explored and stablished trade routes like Portuguese empire, why don't you mention it? Andrés de Urdaneta (discovered and plotted an easterly route across the Pacific Ocean), Juan Sebastian Elcano (completed the first circumnavigation of the Earth),... There are many more inconsistencies in this video on this topic.
desinformación, eso es lo que ha puesto en su video, busca y lee de los imperios que menciona y veras que muchas de las cosas que dice no son correctas
what bugged me is tye complete neglect of the dutch empire wich was incredibly powerfull during the 1600s they had almsot the entire spice trade, had a HUGE naval fleet (bigger then spain france and england's fleet combined) and ruled various colonies,
Poder económico y poco mas, vuestro poderío naval sería en buques mercantes, pero en el aspecto naval militar los galeones españoles no tenían rival salvo los buques de los británicos. A los españoles nos comíais los güevos, así que menos humos
@@albertomartin3625 and thats why the dutch navy sailed up into the thames river, bombed half the brittish navy, and towed their biggest ship back to amsterdam with just economic power? no, they had many warships aswell
5th century is definitely the huns and 9th would either be the abbasids or the carolangian empire their alliance could’ve easily collapsed Byzantium I don’t think it’s even close
Bro for real forgelot Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, a country that occupied Moscow 3 times, pushed Ottomans south while defending against their numerous invasions, and that at one point in history, it controlled entire central Europe with balkans thought PU.
You forgot of Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, in 17th century it was strongest country in the world that contained 90% of balkans, belarus, ukraine and some part of russia (including moscow 1610-1612) it had almost 1million km² and had scariest army (hussars)
After Ottomans, yes. Their only major success against Ottomans was the 2nd Siege of Vienna and the army was a coalition so it wasn't just Poles. Ottomans were facing against combined major powers of Europe while the Commonwealth had regional rivalries were fighting against Ottomans occasionally. If the same European coalition hit the Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth they would be annihilated.
@@MarkhasSteelfort in general polish-lithuanian commonwealths army rank was 1 and i doubt ottomans would handle getting moscow while fighting with russia, polish-lithuanian commonwealth was also very much invaded and wont of course most wars, polish-lithuanian commonwealth solos ottomans
@Sandomer21 You have got to be kidding me. Ottoman vassal Crimean Khanate burned Moscow few times. Also, history has shown that Ottomans fought against many coalitions and won. Their army structure is very organized and it is supported by a solid logistical system, which is legacy of Roman Imperial land system. The Commonwealth has never faced coalitions or crusades like the Ottomans did. Even with weakening Sultans, no one was able to match Ottoman power on land until 1700. I would say that after the Ottoman army, it is either the Spanish or the Polish Commonwealth land army that is strongest.
Would argue that in 19 century france was weaker than Brittain, or even Russia, Napolens genius and the revolution helped them, it wasnt france vs the world, it was the Ancien regimes vs the revolution, prussia beat Austria and France quite quickly, before forming the german empire, eclipsing even brittains's industry and might

Very good video but I think you can also could mention about Poland-Lithuania Commonwealth if only because in XVII century Commonwealth have terriory from baltic sea to black sea and have a very strong army (Winged Polish Hussars), but the video is still very good :))

I have a question why is Bengal Sultanate isn't consider a superpower in 14th 15th 16th 17th 18th century when it made 12% of global gdp in 14-15th century and 15% in 17-18th century and 3rd largest population and one of the best navy but Russian empire with a population less then even main land France and also poor was a Superpower??
They were a great power in India not in the world. Not to offend anybody but India has been a pretty backward country through its entire existence. The Mughals were a great power because it was by far the most populated country since China descided to collapse again. And the Timurids (partly India) were great because "Tamerlane" was a great military leader like Napoleon or Ghensis Khan.
bengal sulthanate was a part of delhi sulthanate and mughal for a long time , in 1720s i think it got independence from mughal s but soon in 1757 bengal was annexed by british
Can you do the same for the bc period? Dehli sultnate replled the mongols and you forgot the Gupta empire who eventually beat back the Huns and was replaced by the rajput kingdoms who stopped both Arabs and Huns and Turks for a while
@williamFromBirmingham Gupta was a superpower in the 4th & 5th centuries. They defeated the Huns in Gupta-Hunnic War. These were the same Huns who had completely destroyed the Western Roman Empire. Not only militarily but also they were by far the largest economy in the world. Chess & Zero also originated from the Gupta Empire
notice how no one could conquer india till 17th century the power of indian dynasties like king Porus who defeated Alexander, Chandragupta who defeated satrapies, also samudra Gupta defeated Alexander in early 326 BCE
11:21 Whoever made the meme should go and learn more about history. The one that replaced Qing dynasty is the Republic of China (ROC), not People’s Republic of China (PRC), so wrong flag.
I think in 12th Century Cholamandalam Empire was the strongest empire. And it was declined at the end of 12th Century AD. Also, isn't Gupta Empire stronger in 3rd to 5th Century AD?
@@kumaraanu Having more economy and having more money doesn't mean that we are a superpower. And I'm not blaming the creator here because he might not have knew about Cholas. Everyone can have a mistake not only him. And everytime, India doesn't have to be the strongest country.
@@kumaraanu Cholas and their descendants (Dravidians) was never connected with India. Cholas never even knew about India. They only cared about Dravida Rajya (Dravidia) and Southeast Asia. So, Cholas aren't Indian they're Dravidians.
12:34: You used the flag of the late Kingdom of France for the "French Napoleonic Empire." Also, France didn't dominate the 19th century (perhaps the beginning), but it was the British who were dominant. France really peaked during the 17th and 18th centuries. True, the first decade of the 19th century seemed dominated by France, but after Napoleon's defeat, the French made sure to respect the balance of power. By the time Napoleon III rose to power, France was still a great power but not as powerful as during the French and Napoleonic Wars for a number of reasons, notably population decline. Before the Revolution, it was the most populous and most prosperous country in Europe, but all the wars drastically impacted the population. It also didn't help that France was plagued by instability, and they were eventually outclassed by Germany. Overall, I don't think you can reduce the history of an empire, let alone a country, to only one century.
