Strongest Non-Benders In Avatar?
In Avatar we have some incredibly strong and at times Immensely overpowered Benders, and bending abilities.. But it should also be noted that we also have some incredibly strong non-benders.. Such as, Sokka, Ty Lee, Suki and many more.. But which of the many non-benders is the strongest?.. Well for this I believe it ultimately comes down to who has the capabilities needed to take down some of the strongest benders in the series, single handedly.. And thinking of it like that, it leaves only 2 answers.. Zaheer and Piandao.. Because remember Zaheer was an incredibly gifted martial artist, with Zuko himself claiming that he could beat even master benders by himself, but given that Zaheer would later become an air bender by way of Harmonic Convergence, I have to say Piandao is truly the undisputed strongest non-bender in the avatar series.. Because Piandao has by far the most combative experience out of any non-bender in the series.. He developed his own way of swordsmanship and with it fought countless battles for the fire nation, and it is also stated that he has never suffered defeat in battle. So of course..

@gamingfg6977 yea it's the same with anyone fighting Airbenders. If your a boxer and you've been doing nothing but fighting other strikers when someone throws a kick it's gonna be harder to fight, Zaheer was a Airbender for what a week at that point fighter a master airbender.

Also mind you Piandao trained Zuko and Sokka. and funny enough HE TRAINED ZUKO AFTER HE LEFT THE ARMY! which means the firelord or whoever was overseeing Zuko was like "hey train this child!" HE deserted the army and produced to train the prince of the nation of the army HE DESERTED!

If we make some assumptions about outside the series I would say that adult Sokka might take the cake. Piando said he believed Sokka had the capabilities to become an even better master than himself and we know that he was in the group with Tezin, Zuko, and Tarrlok that took down the Red Lotus the first time despite the fact that he and Zuko would've likely been around 70.

We never really saw Sokka in Korra as anything other than a representative. Sokka is a strategist and has several tools, he's not a fully trained fighter like someone devoting their life to swordmanship.

@@ashrude1071 Remember when he first met Suki and he offered to teach her group some fighting techniques, but instead got beat by Suki. Well during his training with Suki we actually see him take her down while she was showing him her techniques. With that in mind it's fair to believe that Sokka can easily out class Suki with enough training. Which I believe he did by the end of the series, considering that he was able to go toe to toe with Ty Lee.

It’s Piandao. An elderly version of him is just as capable as teen Ty Lee and prime Zaheer. A prime Piandao would be an absolute unit that would trump both Zaheers martial arts and Ty Lee’s chi blocking. I actually recently had this conversation with my gf and came to that conclusion with her.

Remember when Pian Dao said "I'm a little old to be fighting the avatar"? If you think about it, he might be implieing that in his prime he might have stood a chance... You could say he might have been being cocky, but knowing Pian, I don't think so.

Honorable mentions Mai and Ty Lee both were able to go toe toe with some of the strongest benders (and then we have to mention how Mai is nerfed by ratings demographic censorship, she throws knives with pin point accuracy she definitely would be lethal if she chose to kill.) Kyoshi warriors were also insanely strong fighters and one can only imagine that was amplified after Ty Lee taught them chi blocking

Sokka is a great strategist and his general and emotional development in his maturity and his experience make him even more formidable in major events. He might not be quite as gifted as a fighter like some of the other non benders but he's very creative and imaginative. Which is just as important in a fight especially against someone more powerful. So its good see someone acknowledge him

Zaheer, Piandao, and Ty Lee are prolly the 3 strongest and most capable combative non-benders. Obviously Zaheer and Piandao for the reasons you stated, but Ty Lee's chi blocking is also able to block bending, with most benders lacking martial prowess as a result of relying upon bending. Ty Lee was shown to be agile enough to get close to the Gaang, which at the time had some of the best benders seen in the show, and chi block them and dominate physically and martially as a result of her circus training endowing her with pliable and springy muscles, perfect for combat. Mike Tyson's muscle were the same way in his prime, being described as almost pillowy soft and almost elastic when unflexed despite their appearance.

You also have to consider that Zaheer was locked up BEFORE he got bending. He was locked up with the other Red Lotus members, who were deadly benders. It also took Sokka, Zuko, Tenzin, and Korras dad to lock up all of them. If it takes that many strong warriors to defeat him, as well as being compared with super deadly benders, then Zaheer is prob the strongest

Man lived in the middle of their city, unbothered by their existence and soling an entire army of assassins' that were sent for him. Sokka could beat him because we have to remember he had almost matched pian dao’s strength in they’re fight as a kid. Imagine him versing pian dao at his prime. He’d beat the shit out of him. He also is very smart and he shows us that in the final fight and the fight with Pian Dao himself blinding pian dao
