lol didn’t realize I could move the the pto selector to mid one to make it easier to hook up the rear one.. lot easier then trying to adjust the attachment
Maybe I got a crappy PTO shaft but getting that thing to snap in is a real pain in the ass… spent a crap load of money for my John Deere .. want to enjoy myself and not get frustrated from the very beginning, hooking something up!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH for showing me that putting the PTO in the middle will make the PTO shaft move freely around. I have been struggling for over an hour to get my tiller on.
the plastic saftey casings can bind and make it harder to slide the shaft on - we use a can of car wax spray polish to lubbricate the plastic- works well! and cheap!
This is the BEST tractor channel available. Sheesh! Thank you for doing what you do! Now here I am about to go order a quick hitch attachment from your store! I already got the PTO link after seeing this video. I wish my dealer had told me about the quick hitch option when I was buying my tractor but at least I found this channel because my dealer in Texas is 3 kinds of worthless! Thanks for codifying your knowledge sir! Much appreciate the effort you put into this channel!
Thank you for the video. I have only had my 1025r a couple of weeks and I disconnected the backhoe and was attaching my tiller. Could not get my 3 point to raise up. I had the hydraulics connected but come to find out it was only connected part way. So once attached fully it worked as it should. 2nd. Learned how to release the pro so I could easily turn the pro and get the shaft connected. Love your videos! Keep up the good work! Thanks again.
Thank you Cory. When I saw the first tip in your video it was a light goes on moment. Now I'll always move the selector to the mid pto before hooking up the shaft for my tiller. I just hope I don't embarrass myself by forgetting to move it back before I start to till. 😉
I can see a huge fault in that product. Just like you stated in the video of days spraying break oil and hammering to get the pto shaft broke loose from rust. That is exactly what will happen with this product and the pto driveshaft unless the consumers takes the time to routinely remove and grease the pto driveshaft to minimize the chance of it rusting up and not being able to remove it. Otherwise i think it can be very useful except that majority of people will do nothing to keep it from rusting together.
Could you do a video on tools ever new tractor owner shoulf own? Maybe ones that you need for maintenance and then just ones that are always a good idea to have.
Hello! I know I'm late to the party but wanted to say thanks for the video and the promotional code to save 5% on the PTO Link. I hope my days of fighting that stupid PTO connection are behind me. Thanks again!
I could not agree more. Sometimes connecting a 3 point can be a bit of work. But PTO connection is easy. This product just adds a step that seems like it makes it more difficult. It also puts the connection point where it is less guarded and places the operator or anyone near the pto connection at far greater danger of getting tangled in the shaft.
Tim, I like seeing the products that Courtney offers, but I'm for the most part with you. That is a crap ton of money for a super minor convenience. It reminds me of the single point loader attachment that's out there for $600-700. I mean sure attaching one point is easier than hooking up my four loader couplers, but dang, it only takes me about 10-15 seconds. I think I can handle it.:-) I'm so cheap I don't even have a quick hitch....BUT I do have a hydraulic top link and while it was pricey, it has been extremely convenient to use.
Agree, the pto connection is the easiest part of the 3pt hookup. You still have to line up this device. I guess its easier cause you can see your points. Some people may struggle with that especially if they’re older or new to tractors and stuff. Quick hitch would be nice to have though.
I am 180 out from y’all. The quick hitch is the solution in search of a problem. With the telescoping extendable arms and hydraulic top link I have zero issues hooking up. The pto is a pita however and I may well invest in this device. Pulling a collar while pushing in a greasy, well lubricated, cramped environment always takes forever and results in skinned knuckles and frustration.
Very nice video sir. We run quite a bit of equipment with PTO shafts. The worst we have is a John Deere HX15. Pretty heavy shaft. We actually built a cable that loops over the ears of our quick hitch. We raise it up and use it to level the shaxt with the PTO and then slide it on. They should pass legislation that requires a quick hitch on every tractor sold! New subscriber just because of this great video.
Just ordered the tractor PTO Link. Can't believe I've been struggling with this. GWT worked perfect for my discount. Once I get it, I'll try to remember to comment back on my thoughts. I too have a 4066R and although the 'R' makes things so much easier, (being able to control the tractor from the back control panel) eliminating the effort all together is the ticket. At least I hope so.
GOOD WORKS! I’m in desperate need of some help, we got a 5045E Tractor from John Deere, and every time we put the park gear on, not all the brakes lock together. It still rolls unless we have the brake and clutch on. Isn’t there a way to lock the brake with the parking break on without putting the bucket down?
At least on the JD 3039R, with rear PTO only, the PTO output spline will still rotate just over one spline's distance, i.e. a bit over 1/6 of a rotation. (Range lever in neutral - didn't check A,B or C.) Luckily, that makes it possible to line up the splines with the PTO shaft. I don't know if this is by accident or design!
If mr. "add a little grease" ever needs surgery on the fingers of his left hand carpal tunnel surgery on his right hand, arthritis in his shoulders and he makes it to 77 years of age he may realize that life isn't quite as simplistic as he seems to believe it is now.
What I really like about the Tractor PTO link is that it protects the spline on the tractor at the gearbox. I realize it sits back in a good bit, but it's nice knowing if you were to back into something or drop something or something were to fall on it, the spline is covered and protected. Very helpful video, I never thought to shift the PTO into the midrange so I could manually turn it. Purchased a new 1025R with the 3049 tiller and it has been a bear to hook up since I bought it, I believe you solved many of my issues. Thank you so much for the helpful tips and for continuing to provide good content. I will definitely be purchasing the tractor pto link.
I cannot think of a worse addition to a tractor. It adds complexity and expense to a system that already works well. But even worse it makes the PTO shaft more dangerous. It moves the connection point back from the tractor guard and at the same time moves it farther out from the guard on the shaft itself. When using one it leaves a large wheel exposed and just begging to wrap up something. Worse yet the wheel has protrusions that would seem to make it even more likely to grab anything that happened to brush against it.
Anyone that would work at attaching a pto shaft while the tractor is running surly needs more than a safety device. I never will attach the pto with tractor running and i don't operate tractors around little kids, an angle grinder removes this plastic contraption and all the frustrations go away, those that have had serious injury or death "the tractor was running", if their is doubt of abilities do not remove the safety device.
If u can't hook up a PTO shaft you probably shouldn't be operating a tractor or over grown lawnmower.. for real cause if you ain't got that much sence you probably goin get hurt or killed 😢😢😢😢
Maybe Tesla technology will bring in self-driving Tractors as a major convenience. All electric and driver optional thanks to IBM's 2nm chips for AI processing
Shaft needs to be criticized to your tractor. My case I have to raise my tractor up to put the PTO on. Sharpe is just a little bit long but I would ratherHave it that way.
I purchased one of the PTO quick hook up links. Works like a charm, super easy to use and reduces the PTO hook up to a couple minutes. For me it was well worth the money!
Some will mention perhaps a problem with the length of the PTO shaft on equipment; however I don't see that being a problem. Do you? I have a 4044M JD and I'll probably trade it on a 5055 JD to use the PTO connection on. I will be pulling a 3 pt., MX6 Rotary cutter. Your thoughts.
Thank for all the tractor insight. I also am a tractor newbe. Lots of good info. That SpeeCo quick hitch is pretty cool. I would like to help out and buy the quick hitch from you guys but Kalamazoo is a bit far from Corpus Christi, TX. Think I be cutting that 1K miles offer kinda close.
OEM locking mechanism - yeah, it'll snap right into place. Until its several years old and some of the old grease has dried out and hardened. Now, tell me how easy it is to connect the shaft on a BX2380's mower deck to the tractor. NOT - the challenge is access and being able reach under the tractor, hold the detent so it can freely slide onto the output shaft, and do it all by feel - right! And then there the stubby PTO shaft for Kubota's 3-bag bagger for the BX. Both the PTO shaft connect AND the right lower 3PH arm connection are a PITA to connect.
Even with my John Deere iMatch quick connect, changing implements is the bane of my existence. The quick connect is fine, but dealing with the PTO shaft completely spoils the joy of the task. I'd almost prefer to buy another tractor than struggle with changing PTO attachments.
Hi there great video , I have 2018 John Deere 2025R tractor . I have the brush hog driveline stuck on my PTO shaft . Does anybody have an idea how to get driveshaft off ? I tried spraying WD40 into quick release yoke I think there’s 3 ball bearings that might be rusted . Still stuck please any ideas will be greatly appreciated . I am going to buy a set PTO LINK . Thank you for making this video .
Great videos. You are the best. Do you happen to have a video on attaching a post hole digger and using it ? I haven’t been able to find out. Thanks so much keep it up
Oh hell, I was about to buy these quick link items etc, tried the "move the PTO gear into neutral" trick (didn't work LOL), then the teeth finally caught and the shaft slipped on no problem LMAO. This, after first trying to hitch it up two weeks ago and needing to take breaks due to my frustration in not being able to link it up. Oh well, still going to consider the quick hitch because putting mower/blade on without a quick hitch is a pain.
OK, maybe I'm missing something?? I've been hooking up PTO shafts ever since I was big enough to drive a tractor, and I'm in my 50's now. I don't understand why folks have so much trouble hooking up a PTO shaft, as you said, as long as you keep the telescoping sections well greased and clean, it's not hard at all. And, I cannot for the life of me see what problem that this PTO attachment device thing solves. And the video didn't really show anything either. You still have to rotate 1 of the shafts to align the drive dogs just as you would have to rotate one of the shafts to align the splines on the shafts themselves. In fact, you might have to rotate the shaft even more to get this thing to align than you would to get just the splines on the standard shaft to align. It looks like a solution in search of a problem to me. But it does make a heavy wallet considerably lighter. That sweeper looks really interesting, do you have any videos on it?
Took a look at the tractor PTI website, don’t ship to Canada, do you ship to Canada? Have a JD 2305, 2009, hate contorting to reach under and try to install or remove the pro for my tiller. Would probably till more often if it was easier. I am in Edmonton, AB, T6R0C1, what would the cost to ship be.
Have 3520 and a RC 2072 Roto Cutter. Connecting PTO with the compression ring is a bisket. sob. I back up tractor close so I can get my arms in there to try to pull back the compression collar and slide the pto on. Then I back up the tractor and connect the roto cutter with the quick hitch. collar. Is there a tool that would help. I am a Veteran.
I find it utterly ridiculous that hooking up PTO fixtures that comes standard on tractors is so difficult. It doesn't even take 21st century technology to make it easier, it's like it's hard for no reason.
I put my auger on 3 times. First 2 times, I couldn't get the plastic PTO guard to click into place. 3rd time I couldn't get it to slide off. The PTO was stuck and I need to get an air compressor in there to remove any gunk that was jamming it. Is there a simple way to click and unclick that plastic piece? I ended up dismantling it and leaving a part out so as to never deal with that issue again. Probably not too dangerous on an auger but I won't plan on modifying any more implements.
@3:00-ish talking about connecting pto, is there a reason why some have slip-rings vs push-pins? I have pto shaft on my winch, one end has slip-ring, other end is push pin, by far the push-pin is at least 10 times easier to put on and take off, so I dont understand WHY is the slip-ring pto shaft being made? I can understand if something is an improvement but I dont see that slip-ring pto as an improvement!!!!!!!
