All this math is confusing. I thought it was 10% luck, 20% skill, 15% concentrated power of will. 5% pleasure, 50% pain and 100% reason to remember the name.
Two things that caught my attention. Some smart person years ago pointed out that the last 10% of a one time job/project takes 90% more effort of the entire job at that grand opening finale, So put in that extra focused attention when you are tired and burnt out is the rule. Second, Luck is a word that is not understanding how you as a human can influence devine timing and success by using age old techniques of focused prayer, astrology, numeralogy, tarot, ritual, being educated about the unseen, aka be the the active mystic that can steer the forces a little in your favor. Its Better than doing nothing. Just thinking lucky doesn't get you lucky. Its a practice. Lastly look at the entitlements and breaks a person got, and their connections and family that has supported one's effort that makes these places of paradise. Good for them.👍 🙏
If you're going to use hinges and threaded eyelets with a wire, why not also use hooks on the wire that attach to the eyelet and can be removed so the shelf can lower to be parallel with the wall? If it's there with permanence why not just use L brackets under and avoid the wire hypotenuse?
pretty sure its just for his janky, homemade aesthetic. I thought the wire might be a bit stupid because it looked like it could make pushing the toaster handle down harder, but he didnt show that in the video when they did the toast so i reckon the wire did get in the way. L brackets would've probably been more practical but i like the wire because its a bit silly.
@@geoffersmaher really? What were the others? The last video was so funny to me, i would read the comments all the time to watch van being dragged across the floor
That video was a f-king obscenity. 10 million Americans lost their homes in the banking crash, thousands took their lives and a guy "about as wealthy as a successful dentist" says it affected no one... I had a business in Britain making custom garden buildings - the week of the banking crash every single order canceled and my business evaporated overnight.
@@williamdavies1192 my perspiration precipitates my self perpetuated perpetuity to persevere under the circumstances which endowwww my perspective and prospective curiosity to make pretentious presuppositions about the probability of periodical pontification oh can I get an aaaaamen? 👨🏿🌾👨🏿🦲🤸🏾🗣
Probably miners don't work hard enough then compared to some OnlyFans who sits on her ass all day... because they make much less and often just get sick from coal and mine dust
Luck = Preparation + Opportunity. You can control preparation with your daily input, effort, and self education. You can manufacture opportunity with networking, consistency, and branding. Therefore, you can make your own luck.
Wow, this hits home. Almost my entire life has been luck, dumb luck mostly. It's not always good luck, but yeah, as a self-employed guy, luck can go a long way toward or away from success.
Luck occurs when preparation meets opportunity. Work hard and be diligent so you are in the best position to capitalize on luck when it comes your way. 🍀
Van, you always surprise and delight, Brother. Your thoughtful insights continue to move his Sisyphean rock we call life up an increasingly more enjoyable, flower lined mountain.
@@coltonheeney4291 the last video he put out where he talks about why the bankings collapsing and the 2008 crags were “no big deal”. He mentioned he makes as much salary as a dentist and he is fine and we will be too. It was quite an out of touch video. Many lost their businesses and jobs in 2008 all over the world.
Do you ignore your luck and focus just on your struggle? You have the same “luck”. How you came to work for Tom Sachs, how HBO picked you up, a nudge from your brother on this platform. You are creative in your own right and I would be remiss to ignore your struggle however; do you recognize you are the recipient of a healthy helping of… luck.
i sort of thought he eluded to that when he was talking about how he likes to romanticise it and how his ego wants to take credit for it all but he knows he shouldn't. but i might've just assumed that was what he was saying because i know that he has had a lot of luck
I would say, the perspiration is the catalyst for luck to take place, your job is to put effort behind your inspiration to create something that can receive luck. In poetic terms, the wind is always blowing by, but you need to build a sail to catch it so it can propel you, and at the end of the day, you built a boat, but it was the wind that got you where you needed to go.
Haha, the Neistat brothers posted at the same time. We love both you crazy terribly inspired brothers' content. Please, don't ever stop. Signed: a dude who gets your videos.
@@MariusViken thank you. I watched it. When Van started his RU-vid channel I was captured by the creativity and humbleness. Lately he seems driven by ego and money. I found the video. He seems high on something, or in some manic mental state. Like a bit out of control. His videos are less appealing and interesting lately. When he was desperate he produced more honest content. Almost 20 years ago I was riding the bicycle downhill on the Williamsburg bridge bike lane. It was crowded on the pedestrian lane. There were 2 skateboarders in front of me slaloming with entitlement from one side to the other from the bike lane to the footpath. I was irritated as I was passing them I got cut off. I fell forward and my right foot got caught in the bike frame and hit it hard on the pavement. It was so painful for a minute. I thought I would not have been able to walk. The skaters stopped. I was pissed at them. I recognized one was artist Tom Sachs. We had friends in common. He was an a$$ about it. The other I realized last year was Van Neistat. He seemed more concerned and genuine he stopped and inquired my condition. It was mostly their fault, but I could have been more defensive. I did not have health insurance then. In my native Italy I would have gone to the ER. my foot hurt for months and my toe healed a bit crooked, with a bunion. It affected the way I put down my right foot. But my body eventually adapted. We all make mistakes. Anyway interesting how life paths intersect. Interesting that for the unhinged rant video taken down the sponsor was Better Help psychotherapy.
@@stefpix I hear you, but at the same time I don’t feel he hides it though. He’s been talking a lot of success and how he compares it to being a success dentist. The better help sponsor for the last video also made me think if he had a greater plan / hidden message that didn’t come through. I also just realized that the admins have removed my comment refering to the reddit sub. That’s an interesting censorship.
@@tjailts van started this channel when he seemed in a tough financial place, like underwater. What he achieved in a short time seems to have made him drunk on success and consumerism. I understand that hard work should pay off and allow comforts. But there is something off balance and disregulated in his recent videos Maybe Tom Sachs influenced him in good and bad ways. Contemporary art mostly caters to the super rich. People who live in a bubble
Everyone who is successful is a hard working, talented person, but there are far more failures than successful. If you have the luck of circumstance, means, or whatever recognize both the work and luck required to get there. Cherish both.
I think you need to define "success" a little more. You successfully used chalk on the chalkboard... Was it 50% luck?... You tie your shoes successfully; does luck play a role in that?
im quite sure he means success long term in life like a career, hence he interviewed the guy with the hat shop who is successful and has made his own business
@@ocha9520 so specifically business success? ... I'm quite sure we would better understand what he means if he explained it in a little more specifics and detail.
Is it lucky or privilege? Or both? Nothing wrong with that personally, buy even struggles and lucky/privilage (blessings you said) comes also from where you were born and the social conditions in which you grow up, not just only for an own merit, conquer struggle or have "lucky". Cheers Van
First of all, great video and flow of story, although that is often the case with you. Second, great topic; an interesting insight and perspective. The way so many "successful" people try to cling on to how self made they are is a huge part of the hustle culture chaos we are in. Yes, it takes hard work. Yes, it takes talent. And yes, in most cases, those who "succeed" deserve what they create. Yet at all times, this element of luck and fortune threadsits way through the web of their life. There's no shame in this. It doesn't take away from achievement. It's just a part of the journey, and to overlook that diminishes it.
