They redesigned the Galil Ace controls back to traditional AK controls not b/c of cost but for familiarity with the AK system. Similar to how the US is looking for an M4 replacement that has to have similar M4 controls (Sig MCX Spear, FN Scar.. etc). This gun still retains some main benefits of the Galil ACE including the more enclosed receiver, rails, polymer lower, foldable stock, and better sight radius.

Hello, Vietnamese here. Our country buy GALI ACE license in 2015 and after 5 year of testing, we try develop our version with IWI approved. So STV ( Súng trường Việt) version will become our assault rifle family in many years to come. We also bought so may license of IWI and testing it while developing our own version suitable with our defence doctrine. With our history of 70 years war with French, American and friends, Japanese, Chinese , Canbodia I'm sure that we know what to do with gun and other stuff to make them suitable for war in many way.

The STV-215 /380 series is a cross among a AKM and a Israelee Galil ACE 21,22,23! The Mag feed is from a FAL and other features from the American CAR-15 ; during the NAM war!

@khanhgiapham-mi4hg
@khanhgiapham-mi4hg Год назад
Few things to note: 1. It has less rail options than galil ace. 2. The Ak selector has an opening for dirt and mud to enter. The Israelis moved the charging handle to the left with dust cover for that reason. 3. Milled receiver. Maybe more durable than stamped but it's heavier. Imagine marching for miles and humping that thing. 4. Since rails are mounted directly on dust cover and handguard, i doubt any optic would hold zero. I would rather take a generic AKM and upgrade it with Zenitco accessories. 5. Maybe not related to the Galil but from the amount of images here, not many rifles have optics on them. This is the situation just like the russian army with the AK12, lots of new rifles and not a lot of scopes that come with them. Overall, the Galil ace is a decent rifle, it's not better than the AKs and M16 that came before it.

I've fired a lot of AK's and while they are great rifles, but they don't take optics and attachments as well as other modern rifles do. Top cover doesn't hold zero very well in the ones I've tried if you try to mount an optic on there. I think something like the Bren 2 in 7.62x39 would have been a better more modern choice than a souped up AK, but I imagine they didn't go with something like that for probably political and cost reasons, and the fact that they are probably so fond of the AK over there that they don't think anything else could be better since it did help them win their wars.

AK-47 never an assault rifle because at the time it was introduced, the term "assault rifle" wasn't exist before, and Kalashnikov design it as a submachine gun to replace a submachine gun then AK-47 is a machine gun. For a smaller country to spend a lot of time on designing a 'new' rifle, I do wonder about the economy of doing so. There are plenty of existing designs out there. If it had to be a Viet designed rifle, I would have likely in their shoes, adopt a modification of the AR-15 assuming that their industries can work with aluminum. I would adapt the rifle to use the 7.62x39 AK magazine since that is the most outstanding part of the AK. I would redesign the AR upper receiver to work reliably with the 7.62x39 round. My personal choice as a US civilian is an AR-15 that handles the 7.62x39 and also the 6.5 Grendel (6.5x39).

Vietnamese choices in weaponry purchase really depend on balance between cost, training and not most but quite a big problem geopolitical. AR platform weapon are expensive and US congress will not happy if a company sell firearms in mass to Vietnam. Changing service rifle or caliber is too costly for a small country with big army like us too.
@loquat44-40
@loquat44-40 Год назад
@@khanhbonmat You did not understand very well. I suggested an AR-15 adapted to fire the 7.62x39 that is the cartridge most used in the AK of which there is a lot of in vietnam. I did not suggest that they buy AR-15s but that they manufacture them if they could. that is the entire point of the video that vietnam is designing and making their own rifles. I realize that my writing in English could be misunderstood by Vietnamese, but I am sorry in that I can not speak Vietnamese at all. Also there are many sources of AR-15 rifles beside the USA and I am not so sure that the USA would oppose the Viets having ARs. After all the Viets did fight off a Chinese invasion.

@@loquat44-40 from my knowledge, our defense department want to buy not only license but the whole technology and factory production when they want a new rifle, Russian company did ask if we want to buy license and the whole factory production of ak-100 series but we decline because it’s so expensive. Dunno if any western company offered some kind of deal like that yet.
@loquat44-40
@loquat44-40 Год назад
@@khanhbonmat I do not think that any part of the AR15 rifles require licenses to make. Now buying a production package from the USA, I do not know about that. I do know that AR-15 rifles that have been around for more 60 years can be made by any private factory in the USA. The parts can be very cheap and many civilians assemble their own rifles. In other words after a certain period of time the patents no longer exist. Now the big issue for export of military technology from the USA does require the permission of the State Department. But the AR-15/M16 is made in many places. The chinese make an unlicensed copy of it. The Type CQ is an unlicensed Chinese variant of the M16 rifle manufactured by Norinco.[3] According to the Norinco website, the rifle is officially known as CQ 5.56.[4] It can be distinguished from other AR-15 and M-16 pattern rifles by its long, revolver-like pistol grip, somewhat rounded handguards, and the unique shape of its stock. Perhaps Norinco would sell a production package for their rifles. The biggest issue for the manufacture of the AR-15/M16 is aluminum extrusion technology and that might be lacking in Vietnam.
