The man is a legend, has made some of the best music to over come out of the UK, so pleased to have grown up with his songs as the soundtrack to my youth.
I was so luck to have lived my late teens and early 20's during what I believe to be the best years of music in general. Honestly, so many bands, so much variety of music. No other decades even come close to these years. The Style Council is a prime example. I get goose bumps. I want to go back to that time and relive it over and over again. Like groundhog day. I wish these years never have gone away.
Mr. Weller has it all. Crazy talented musician (singer, songwriter, et al) who’s never been afraid to innovate, a highly intelligent and thoughtful guy, *and* one of the most handsome men I’ve ever seen 😍
Absolute class! Saw this on telly at the time and now 40 years later it pops up on my RU-vid feed, as fresh and energetic and soulful and pure inspirational as ever. God Bless You Mr Weller...
Context of the song, early 80’s in England, riots everywhere, 30% unemployment in St Helens 1982 when i left school. We danced n shouted. We also had a solid bond in our hearts..
I was half in mind, I was half in need And as the rain came down I dropped to my knees and I prayed I said, "Oh heavenly thing, please cleanse my soul I've seen all on offer and I'm not impressed at all" I was halfway home, I was half insane And every shop window I looked in just looked the same I said, "Now send me a sign to save my life 'Cause at this moment in time there is nothing certain in These days of mine" You see it's a frightening thing when it dawns upon you That I know as much as the day I was born And though I wasn't asked, I might as well stay And promise myself each and every day That when you're knocked on your back and your life's a flop And when you're down on the bottom there's nothing else But to shout to the top Well we're gonna shout to the top We're gonna shout to the top We're gonna shout to the top Hey, we're gonna shout to the top You see it's a frightening thing when it dawns upon you That I know as much as the day I was born And though I wasn't asked, I might as well stay And promise myself each and every day We're gonna shout to the top (shout) We're gonna shout to the top (shout) We're gonna shout to the top (shout) We're gonna shout to the top (shout) We're gonna shout to the top (shout) We're gonna shout to the top (shout) So when you're knocked on your back and your life's a flop And when you're down on the bottom there's nothing else But to shout to the top (shout) Well, we're gonna shout to the top (shout) We're gonna shout to the top (shout) We're gonna shout to the top (shout) And when you're knocked on your back and your life's a flop And when you're down on the bottom there's nothing else But to shout to the top (shout) We're gonna shout to the top (shout) We're gonna shout to the top (shout) We're gonna shout to the top (shout) Hey, yeah, shout to the top (shout) We're gonna shout to the top (shout) We're gonna shout to the top (shout) Shout to the top (shout) Shout to the top (shout) We're gonna shout to the top (shout) We're gonna shout to the top (shout) We're gonna shout to the top (shout) Shout to the top (shout) Shout to the top (shout) We're gonna shout to the top (shout) Shout to the top (shout) Shout to the top (shout) Shout to the top (shout) Shout to the top (shout)
