The bug looks like that thing that sits in the corner of your room or at the foot of your bed at night. Stares with it’s soulless eyes while you slumber, you can’t tell if it’s really there or not so you can’t sleep in fear of not knowing if you will make it till morning. Then it suddenly flies through the wall and disappears leaving you scared beyond words.
I"m a "FAN"freak(especially"E" heat extractors fans,when I built my "SUBI-BUG"project,I kept it Sleeper-Style"with a Subaru flat four 1998(217 HP.TURBO engine,but in a 838 KG car)....Cooling that bay was my main concern,being rear mounted,I wanted to"scoop"fresh air from the bottom,witch I did,with a plexiglass bottom,and 4 powerful extractor fans(on demand)with the original grid(Porsche has done it since)!!!And with discret louvers,heat sensors/dash gages.....Cooling has become super efficient,with keeping front boot space.......
Very nice - a lot of thought and work on display here. Years ago my wife and I were driving through a national park here in Oz and came up behind a slantback VW which took off. I was up for a spin so off we went. At the time I had a beautifully sorted 964 and it took some work to finally get around this guy. Later he pulled up beside me and after his wife finished beating up on him (he did have a small child in the back and we were being quite naughty), he opened the back to show a WRX motor he'd shoehorned into it. Had he had better suspension, he would have been much harder to catch. Very impressive sleeper! Of course this was back when I was young and childless... far more responsible now... ;-) Cheers and thanks for the vid - Dave
it could be a lowkey sleeper with burps on exhaust, but hey if it works it'll work just fine. That's one of the most radical beetle I've seen after the V8 swapped one by another company.
OH MY GOD! I'M IN LOVE. THAT FKN MASTERPIECE SHOULD BE NAMED LIKE IT'S OWNER "ADONIS" i really had tears in me eyes watching this ... thank you so much
In my humble opinion, maybe you should come up with a parts list for the rest of us so we could think about our own version of such a great looking and sounding VW. Back in 1967 I had a Beetle and kept bending push rods from over revving it...
This build and the V8stealthbeetle is the top builds of the VW bug that I have seen. Wonder who's the fastest. Subaru flat four turbo. or Audi turbo V8!
Congratulations Adonis! live your dreams brother. inspirational indeed. #ProudlyCapetonion yours and the guys from stealth beetle are keeping the beetle alive....
Subaru should make a modern version of the Subaru 360, it was I believe the first Subaru available in the US and looks like a mix of a beetle and a mini. A 2door, AWD, with the vintage body styling would be such a cool car. Too bad people in the US would rather pay 80k for an oversized pickup truck they dont need. Small economical cars are just bot popular…
You did a wonderful job. As another Capetonian wanting to make a built up car legal, did you have a lot of uphill from authorities? I have heard that they try to block such things.
You know it tse2.mm.bing.net/th?id=OGC.15867f56cb2a43efa84d482d1462aa84&pid=Api&rurl=https%3a%2f%2fmedia.giphy.com%2fmedia%2fYTbZzCkRQCEJa%2fgiphy.gif&ehk=dQ2Hp8zK05QAKyvvo6%2bVIA
Mention its set up for a "drag race" car. Looks more like a road race car to me. Beautiful car and cool build. With that kind of power (dang near 400hp) in a bug I'm surprised its not pulling wheelies..
Very nice. But it's not awd is it? That would be next level cool if it was. But it's a drag car so it's just gatta go in a straight line for 15 seconds give or take lol
It's nice that you show us this but how about some details? Like where can you buy a super beetle whats the costs involved? how much did it cost to complete? how much did the engine transplant cost?
A Beetle with a liquid-cooled engine, and one of the most unreliable in use, and finicky to work on....my head tells me I should not be a fan of this car....but damn, that's so nicely done - all the details in the holes, trim, paint, the stance, it looks superb! About the only thing I'd change if it were mine would be those headlights - they're such a distinctive feature on the original, I think this car carries off all the other mods really well, but just those headlights don't quite work for my taste. Still, as long as the person that lives with it likes 'em, that's all that matters!
EJ engines are more reliable than tuned air-cooled VW engines and they have a similar size. If you want an air-cooled engine with some serious power you quickly spend 7.000-10.000$(or even more). A used turbo-charged EJ engine is way cheaper even if you factor in rebuilding the block and turbo. If you view it from the perspective of an air-cooled VW owner Subaru engines are super reliable :D
The King - Fairly straightforward, they cling to it because we run scripts in our heads - Subaru=unreliable, Alfa=rust bucket, etc. Pigeonholing things saves us mental effort! I wouldn't say they couldn't ever shake it off - Skoda, for example, no longer have the reputation they did in the nineteen-eighties, but it'll probably take just as long before idiots like me realise Subaru have upped their game!
