Only a very good guitarist can sound so good with no special effects ‘. I think that this is especially true if you play The Blues, because the subtitles in your playing make all the difference.
What a beautiful force to be reckoned with, this is my first time listening to Sue Foley, great player and a cool looking Tele, love the live concept of this album, not enough female blues guitar players out there, which is probably a good thing for Sue, nice work,I'll have to check out some of the videos,I'm an instant fan, thanks for the interview.
We met Sue as a teenager, back in the late 80’s, (so cute, wearing her beret). Informing us she preferred Texas, to Chicago Blues. Next thing you know, Clifford Antone’s invited her to live & record on his label, in Austin, TX. April ‘93, we caught her at an Antone’s benefit gig, with Jimmie & most of the local heavyweights. Respectfully, SRV isn’t the best, (saw him live, 5 times)…do your REAL BLUES homework, beyond the atypical blues rockers & obvious, popular heavyweights. Jimmie is the superior blues guitarist, of the 2 brothers. It’s not about over-the-top gymnastics…Johnny Winter set that bar, way back in the late ‘60’s. For myself, Stevie was still trying to find his sound, too busy aping his hero’s, Albert King licks & Jimi Hendrix, note-for-note. JDW III had his style totally intact from his self titled Columbia release & the Progressive Blues Experiment. What many don’t understand is, Johnny totally understood the Blues history, back to it’s earliest, country acoustic roots. Like Sue, he was a passionate obsessive, consumed with the music & it’s history. Stevie always insisted his older brother was better…he wasn’t lying. Too many blues rockers are drawn to this flashy, million note Wank Olympics thing. Less is more, stripped back essence & the core soul of the blues…tone & attitude. Albert Collins would slay all comers with a lethal pallet of choice, nasty, 2️⃣ TON TONE‼️ 🇨🇦
Bro. You need to learn to let the guest lead the interview. This should have been about SUE. Not Stevie, Jimmie, your preference for picks ECT. You are coming across like a Fanboy here.
