Harley breaking free of the Joker was done in Injustice first and masterfully so. It felt earned that she finally could redeem herself the way she did, even though it took Superman becoming evil and Joker going too far and way worse than General Zod (with Joker doing an act that was so unspeakable that even Joker made sure NOT to tell Harley the whole plan and reveal that Lois was pregnant the whole time) in order for her to make that change, as well as the death of Green Arrow, Shazam and Lex Luthor who all 3 believed in her enough to change with Bruce Wayne/Batman being that final anchor to her redemption. That's why the movies tried to make Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn into that figure, except without all the great writing, character development, and high-level stakes it took to EARN that transformation. The reason why fans loved Harley as a good guy is because of her experiences in Injustice and Hollywood either didn't understand or they did but wanted to shortcut and cheat sheet their way into that zeitgeist.

ARKHAM Harley was loyal to the joker beyond his death. you can tell the writers went with a more modern harley as they try to pretend her and posion ivy had a thing in this universe, even tho harley was never shown to like ivy that way and never broke away from the joker.

It should be noted that in the game they basically say "Black Deadshot, you're a Deadshot from another universe that is here for some reason." He still sucks, though.

I would say that the Harley Quinn situation is fcked up and complicated at best. Yes, WB milked the SS movie for their game, but DC comics kinda already or were on their way of establishing Harley Quinn's growth. For example, BOP Harley is sort of based on Harley from the new 52 and Rebirth after she's over the joker and goes on her shenanigans and become a valued member of the bat family Arkham Harley is basically New 52 Harley when she was dumped by the Joker and became even more unhinged (except the fact that Joker was dead and was glazing him) but yeah they were fcking up with a LOT of the characters I'm not disagreeing just want put some 2 cents in here

Usually I don't care if characters race or colors are changed. Like nick fury in the comics is white but in mcu black, jim gordon being black in the batman etc. But what I won't stand is what they did to deadshot in the arkham games. Making him black changes his entire story. If deadshot was black in the arkham games from the start, I feel like most people wouldn't care. But there already being a black deadshot years later when a white deadshot exist. I don't think I EVER took deadshot seriously until this game.

They’re using the movies as the basis for casual fans, ignoring the comic books and games to try and pull in more people. For as much as they did, they should’ve used Harley’s first movie costume, as overused as it had become. I hate movie synergy SO MUCH! it ruins comics all the time, never once has it felt natural, it all feels so forced (except for the batcave and the skinny look of Alfred from the 40s live action batman) this game is no exception, had that movie not been released this shit project wouldn't have existed in the first place. God damn it the suicide squad have a large history and many interesting iterations...and they choose to go with the shitty live action version because its the one the mainstream knows the most. Maybe it's just me, but if they wanted this to be in the same Arkham Universe and have Harley act like this, they could've done an entire arc dedicated to Harley finally moving on from the Joker. Slowly from her dialogue & personality with the squad, while still making classic Harley jokes with what we know of her. Just in the main story OR since it's live service and we got Elseworld Jonk-- I mean Joker here, you can still have Harley subtly conflicted on whether or not she wants that old dynamic again and develop that all the way to the end where she becomes the Harley lots of people are familiar with recently. Having a complete character development story from Classic Harley to Modern Harley. But that would take a lot of work, let's ignore canon. 🙂

It’s so weird cause usually Marvel is the company that’s notorious for shoving movie changes into other mediums. DC didn’t do it as much . . . . until the first Suicide Squad movie. For whatever reason, Suicide Squad always seemed to be DC’s full attempt at being Marvel. Some fans probably don’t even remember or never knew that after the first Tim Burton Batman movie came out, DC brought the black suit into the comics and it looked stupid. It didn’t last long and DC went back to the iconic Blue & Grey. Ever since then DC was (usually) very careful about what to bring from the movies into other mediums.

Fun Fact btw Demigah i met you didnt know this but uh "the fine clown piece" we call Harley had *SOME* respect for batman cause he went out of his way to make sure shes not AS CRAZY as Joker. tl,dr; The DCAU Harley got over the Joker, but Arkham Harley isn't DCAU Harley. In Batman: The Animated Series, AKA where Harley was *introduced* , the character at multiple points seemed ready to split from the Joker. Part of the tragedy of her character is that she kept being drawn back in, like so many people in toxic relationships - and make no mistake, the series does make brutally clear to the viewer that their relationship is horrific, and not just because they're both murderous assholes. However, that Harley - the *original* version of Harley - does eventually get over the Joker. In "Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker," we learn that the Joker died in a final confrontation with Batman during Tim Drake's tenure as Robin. Harley allegedly fell to her death...but it was revealed to us at the end of the movie that she was actually the grandmother of the DeeDees, two members of the Jokerz gang, and that she *hated* that her grandkids were involved with the Jokerz. She moved past the Joker's death, had her own family, and wanted to keep her descendants away from anything to do with the Joker. So, the DCAU Harley Quinn does in fact break free of the Joker's hold over her, albeit after his death. We don't know how long it took her to move past the Joker, or what exactly she did in order to get through it, but we know it happened. And yes, all of this happened *16 years* before the release of the Suicide Squad movies; "Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker" came out in 2000. (Now, normally, I'd say that them doing it entirely off-screen is bullshit; that we should get a bigger story to explain it. But I've seen how horrible the BTAS continuation comics can get (Bruce knocking up Babs, STAY CLASSY DC!), so between not wanting to cringe myself to death and the fact that BB takes place 40-50 years after BTAS, I can accept it being offscreened. ) However, that is not the Harley in the Arkham series. The entire point of Harley Quinn's Revenge is to show that Arkham Harley is too far down the rabbit hole. She is too obsessed with the Joker to ever move past his hold over her. SS:KTJL tries to off-screen Harley's recovery from being under the Joker's thumb. The problem is, SS:KTJL takes place 5-6 years after Arkham City. For someone as absolutely head-over-heels for vengeance as Harley was during her DLC, that's not enough time, *especially* when you're spending your time either in Arkham where the doctors have learned not to actually talk to the patients lest they wind up...well, like Harley, or being dropped into warzones with a bomb on your neck. 5-6 years of THAT bullshit is not gonna be good enough to let Harley realize how mind-numbingly horrible Joker was and rebuild her own identity separate from her status as "The Joker's girl." Especially when, say it with me, *it happened offscreen.* I let the DCAU slide on the offscreen front because of just how far after BTAS the Batman Beyond show and movie take place; the Arkhamverse has earned no such courtesy. (I apologize for the length, I seem to be unable to write anything less than a page long essay whenever I make a post)

The Harley thing is so aggravating. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind independent Harley. Harley has had an independent arc since her original debut in the cartoons. It’s the main reason I’m not set on the ship with her and Ivy (No I’m not homophobic I’m gay). In the cartoon, Ivy helped Harley by being a good friend and helping her not be so attached in her romantic relationships. Harley did NOT need to be in a relationship after being in an incredibly abusive one for….I think years if I remember correctly. So far the only instance where I like Harley and Ivy being together is in the Harley Quinn tv show, and that’s because they started off as friends, and then didn’t end up together until AFTER Harley had fully healed. I like that. It makes sense. My issue with Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is that there’s no…setup. One second she’s head over heals obsessed with Joker. The next she’s not. It bugs me. Cause Harley’s character and story has ALWAYS been about being trapped in an abusive cycle. The cartoon’s cycle was Joker is abusive to Harley, Harley does something to piss him off and he kicks her out, Harley briefly comes to her senses…then Joker swings back and wind her over, and the cycle continues. The Harley Quinn tv show acknowledges this cycle. Birds of Prey even acknowledges this cycle to an extent. Cause in the context of Suicide Squad (the first one), the Joker and Harley are in the sort of honeymoon phase (my nickname for the last part of the cycle). Then Birds of Prey opens with Harley doing something to piss him off, and he throws her out. Now if I had it my way, “Birds of Prey” would’ve been “Gotham City Sirens” and we’d still have Ivy helping out Harley like the original cartoon, and Catwoman would’ve been a fitting substitute for the thieving schtick, but oh well. Birds of Prey was good enough. Suicide Squad: kill the jusrice league would’ve been the PERFECT opportunity to…actually develop Harley’s detachment from Joker. Deadshot has a daughter, so I’d imagine he’d freak out if someone did to her what Joker did to Harley. King Shark is super sweet, he’d be supportive of Harley and possibly help her out of the mindset she was in. Boomerang… … Idk. I genuinely don’t know enough about his character so…idk what he’d do. But 2/3 of her teammates would 100% help her out of her mindset. ESPECIALLY since Joker is DEAD in this universe. They had the opportunity to create a sweet little found family story amongst a bunch of criminals. We. Love. That. But no. No we can’t have nice things. … Oh well. At least it’s not Sonic Forces. That game is ten times worse.

Here is all the lore I've picked up by playing SSKTJL for Deadshot. Deadshot from SSKTJL was from a different dimension or from the arkham verse, but the Deadshot from the other Arkham games locked him in a cage and took all his gear and his identity.

Now that you mention it, the only iteration of Harley Queen seeing the joker as a narcissist antisocial psychopath would be in the Injustice world. The joker dies, she gets angry and joins the insurgency and gets to interact with heroes such as green arrow, black canary and plastic man. She lives with them for 5 years and gets a new outlook on life, so when the other jokers arrives to the universe she now has 5 years of perspective and while she is excited to see him again she now has a emotional and moral idea on what she did and why it was wrong. That makes sense, in the game she never gets to see the joker outside of the romance or interact with other heroes that can change her outlook.

The crazy part; they DID cater to the fans, New Age “fans”. The OG fans, who loved & respected DC, left in 2011 when DC rebooted everything for people who didn’t care about good stories, the characters, & the legacy. All to be the next MCU.

I'm even mad about what they did to Jon Stewart Green Lantern. They brought in my favorite Green Lantern, the one I grew up with in the JLU cartoon, into this game just so they could give Deadshot a nemesis because of their skin color.
