I can't tell you how many times I've taken my FED-2 on a walk on my lunch break using sunny 16! the FED (original) was a decent attempt at cloning the Leica II. the FED-2 inherited a lot from the first one, but was the start of a successful line of independent development. my FED-2 is a little bit newer than yours and has a diopter adjustment for the viewfinder. I usually put my glasses at risk, but I can take my glasses off and rely on the adjustment if I want to get my eye to "proper" distance. take care to protect the cloth curtain from focused direct sunlight which can burn pinholes into it! I have a few older cameras where previous owners let that happen

Hello everyone from Russia! It's great to see the recognition of the Soviet school of photographic technique. Photo equipment from the USSR was not as subtle as Japanese cameras. But they were simple, reliable and very cheap to experiment with. I recommend that everyone should have a Soviet model in his or her photo arsenal. Molly's a great blogger! Look forward to seeing more of these and keep me coming back for more cameras!)

I love how your apprehension about developing the film is on full display. It makes your video so relatable. I shot for a while with a Fed 2 and I was more than satisfied with the experience - only what you needed to make a shot and nothing else. It actually fell apart on me during an overseas trip and I was able to put back together after running to a 100 yen shop to pick up a set of micro screwdrivers. I gave to my son along with a Jupitar 8 lens after moving on to a Canon P.

@@Eclectachrome He doesn't shoot it much. He likes his Nikon FG, but I wanted to give him an entre into rangefinders.

Awesome video! I'm waiting for my Fed 2 to arrive from an Ebay seller! My first film camera since my teens when my dad gave me a Canon SLR that I unfortunately didn't really get into then and I think we sold it. Had other things on my mind then 🙂 But I started to get into (digital) photography a whole lot over the years and this camera seems perfect for something you can take pretty much everywhere (and if you want to start shooting on film). Film is so forgiving with overexposure, isn't it? So unless you're underexposing you're mostly fine, is my impression. I'd love to get into developing film on my own too sometime. Thanks again for the vid. 😊

Yes, its forgiving with overexposure :) Developing at home is super fun so definitely give that a go when you are ready! I've made some videos on it since this one and really enjoy the process!!

Nice shots. As far as the shutter speed using Sunny 16, it remains the same or as close as possible to your ISO. Only the aperture changes depending on how sunny or cloudy, light or dark it is . This has literally worked EVERY TIME for me.

That's great the way it works for you! Certainly it's the simplest way to use it. But you can use it anyway you want within the parameters of the formula. So you can keep two values constant and change the third which could be aperture, ss, or iso. If you wanted a slower shutter for movement, adjust with the sunny 16 formula for the f and iso, amazing the way math can help us when we don't have a meter or anything to give us the settings!

You can get a rubber protector for the eyepiece to prevent scratching your glasses.

Nice! Also really nice scanner. I suppose if you are already doing the Sunny 16 thing it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to Zone focus if you're having issues with the rangefinder.

so far so good! I like that its one shot, but I don't have any other experience to compare it to, I'm gunna try the df96 from Cinestill next to see how that goes as that's just one chemical vs. two with the Rodinal and AdoFix. Thanks!!
