I think the reason minmay made "My boyfriend is a pilot" is because of how close they were at the beginning of the series. The tragedy is minmay and hikaru knew they could have had a relationship that worked had their lives converged just a little bit more over the months instead of going separately. She viewed hikaru as her first love/de facto boyfriend and by the end of the main arc, she was friend zoning him more out of devotion and borderline slavery to her career as a singer along with how much kaifun is dominating her personal life.

Attention Starliters! If you actually had the fortitude to watch through this video entirely, I salute you. This was very clearly the biggest project I've tackled on this channel and I hope the work payed off. After viewing it I noticed quite a few hiccups in the editing, and for that I apologize. Considering today was my last day of free time for quite a bit however, and the rendering + uploading takes hours (it's 4am), both me and my friend didn't personally find them video-ruining enough to warrant taking down and delaying the entire video for it. Great video. I made it all the way to the end, albeit over four or five sessions, but I enjoyed it all the way. Really liked that you didn't do the low-hanging-fruit analysis of the love triangle and just say "Minmay sucks" because she wasn't into Hikaru at first. I also disliked Misa's crush on Kaifun and thought it was by far the show's worst subplot. Not sure if it's better or worse that it went nowhere... I'd note that Kaifun and Minmay technically aren't cousins, at least not by blood. Hikaru corrects himself, first calling him her cousin, but then clarifying that he's "[Minmay's] uncle's son." I forget the exact relationship, but there was an adoption in Lynn family so Minmay and Kaifun have no biological relation. Also, the last nine episodes IMO deserve more credit. Episode 27 is the "movie ending," and it would've been fine to finish there, but the back nine episodes let the writers flex their creativity muscles and write a satisfactory story after what would've been the much easier ending. The episodes aren't perfect; I get why people are annoyed or confused why Hikaru and Misa's relationship didn't advance, but given that they didn't become an actual couple, it makes sense why Hikaru would still think about Minmay. But Hikaru also had some shred of dignity and pushed back when Minmay asked him if he still felt the same way after two years, which I thought was good writing. I'm guessing the writers always wanted to have Hikaru and Minmay break up for real at the show's actual finale, and I'm mostly glad they did, though I admit it came at some unwelcome cost. And Kamujin was the ideal character for leading the Zentradi rebellion. After Britai and Exsedol defected to Earth's side, that just left Boddole Zer, Kamujin, and Laplamiz as Zentradi villains. Boddole Zer was more about Zentradi self-preservation while Kamujin was always in it for himself. He actually has a great villain arc, as he had the right personality to show he could embrace aspects of Earth culture that suited him, corrupt it for his own selfish gain, and bring disharmony to a society struggling to keep everyone together instead of being willing to make any personal sacrifices. I also like how Laplamiz was willing to be comrades with Britai when it suited her self-preservation, but then joined Kamujin's side once she no longer needed the Micrones. A lot of stories don't have the willingness/guts to write about the post-war struggles, but Macross did, and it helped build the Macross world for future series while giving us great character moments.

The year is 1998 and I was riding high on ultra-violent OVAs that I could find in movie stores or late night on the sci-fi channel. Toonami aired robotech for the first time and I was hooked. Much later down the road, I found out about Super Demetion Fortress Macross. Threw a leak in harmonygold's death grip on the franchise. I saw Macross Plus, and Macross 2: lovers again. Been a fan of SDF Macross for decades. Thank you for making such a great video about my favorite show. You've got a new subscription today and I'll be sure to watch the rest.

To anyone who reads is: Absolutely go watch The Super Dimension Fortress Macross "Kamjin never made appearnces relevant enough to mention" Bro he's responsible for THE ENTIRE MARS OPERATION, y'know, the gravity trap that almost kills Misa? Hell Kamjin is also responsible for the unauthorized attack on the Macross that's the cause for Misa to go out on the Cat's Eye scout plane when she gets captured. You also forgot to mention that when Hikaru gets absolutely bodied enough to get hospitalized, it was because Misa fucked up the attack order timing due to daydreaming about Kaifun, leading to a stray shot hitting Hikaru and nearly killing him so it makes sense for her to visit him at the hospital before Minmay does. Ok first Minmay did NOT write "My Boyfriend is a Pilot", when she mentions the song to Hikaru first just before her idol debut she says, very clearly, that it was a song written by her producer at that time. So Minmay did NOT write that song. Also isn't most of the songs she sings in the last few episodes that serve as the epilogue to the show her other songs like Silver Moon Red Moon? Reunited for the first time in 2 years* Kamjin is great in how polar opposite he is to the rest of Breetai's fleet. While the rest of the Zentraedi assigned to Breetai embrace culture and the idea of no longer fighting Kamjin sees culture and, while accepting it as part of life, knows that *fighting* is what he truly lives for, thus making him the perfect antagonist for the end of the show.
