im actually impressed with Jack Black's representation of Bowser. Pratt is a slightly passable Mario though they should have used Charles to do his mario that we all grew up with
The problem with using Charles is that he isn’t marketable to the world wide general audience. Let’s be honest yes people know who Mario is but if you ask 100 people at a mall how many will say that it’s Charles Martinet? Chris Pratt is more recognizable especially for the kids and will definitely help it with marketing. I definitely would have preferred an actual voice actor but they are not getting the jobs anymore unfortunately
Martinet will be too goofy considering Mario will have dialogue through the whole movie. Charles fits Mario going "wohooo" and "let's a go" in the games but for a movie I think Pratt is gonna fit him
Honestly it isnt too bad. Kinda reminiscent of his super mario bros super show days given the more american accent. Especially considering this mario is going to have much more and more serious lines then his game counter part.
Seeing Bowser like that is so mind-blowingly awesome. They did SUCH a good job on him and showed the character such respect; he's gonna be the best part of this movie. I'm so hyped!
I'm looking forward to Bowser more than anything. I'm already seeing Pixar/Dreamworks clichés, I hope they don't stuff too many in the movie. Though my hope is likely in vain. 😑
@@americaiuno I heard he is voicing him, then watched this trailer and had to google if it really is him. Tbf I watch most movies in my native language, but I also listen to Tenacious D and couldn't tell it was him.
Jack needs to be replaced with somebody actually willing to put in the time and effort to really capture Bowser. His voice is just generic and weak. Bowser's voice is supposed to sound like rocks grating against each other... Jack's voice here just sound like a soprano singer trying to sound cool. So either fire Jack, or have him redo all the voice acting he has done for Bowser.
I like how they made Bowser FEEL powerful again. He’s honestly felt like kind of a joke for most Mario games (despite being the final boss) but in this you actually feel like he is a threat
I'm actually slightly floored how this looks far better than I expected. And it was only slightly cheesy, but in a charming way. There was...actual love put into this? Could it be?
I totally agree. I have high hopes for it. It seems that the voice actors and creation team put care and had fun with it. It translates into the trailer. Super pumped for this!!
Of the two scenes, the Bowser one is really strong. They do a good job of making him look like a threat, while having some humour. Still not really sold on Pratt as Mario. It sounds a little weird. But maybe it works better in the full thing. A fairly decent start. If nothing else, it's nice to see them showing some respect to the source material, and the fact that they're incorporating more of the actual Mario music is particularly encouraging.
Bowser is passably cartoony without undermining the intimidation he brought with him through his castle and then melting down the ice palace, something that I imagine isn't that easy to pull off.
How is this not the most popular comment? I felt similar, Mario looks just a little off? And the combo of adding Pratt's voice... they have a little bit of work, but this looks a lot more promising than how that Sonic The Hedgehog movie started!
Lets be honest though. We all know that the animators won't get a raise and will continue to be exploited by the entertainment industry and will be overworked and paid peanuts like always.
just a correction for you comment, the Magikoopa who seen in the trailer was actually Kamek aka Bowser's assistant and parent guardian during Bowser's young age
Its surprising how they managed to make Jack Black's voice as Bowser and Keegan-Michael Key's voice as Toad actually work really well. I still don't know how I feel about Chris Pratt being Mario, but it isn't necessarily as bad as I thought it might be. This looks really promising nevertheless
@@atlasgamer7473 Its not that he's awful, it works, most people aren't super into it because of how Mario over the decades he's existed has had a very Italian accent, while Chris Pratt is one of the most American actors you can get. Its not bad, its just a very different take on Mario that may take a little bit to get used to
I feel like a lot of effort went into making this trailer as interesting as possible not just for kids but for the general audience. And that deserves commendation.
I am such a huge Mario fan. And I really want to go see this amazing movie premiere on April 7th! The voices are amazing! The animation is amazing! I know lots of people do not like Chris Pratt as Mario, but I don’t mind it, because it sounds like Mario from the Super Mario World TV show. Like and subscribe if you want to see it premiere!
Toad just seems like a ripoff of the snowman from Frozen. Mario's voice isn't high-pitched enough, there are too many generic jokes, and the story doesn't seem to be about Princess Peach getting kidnapped.
The fact that Mario just sounds so natural is a big surprise to me. I expected him to have a higher voice like all the videogames made for this one specific guy. I'm not complaining though, I find it interesting.
I’m not gonna lie, his breath seems extremely powerful. Heck, it burned an entire castle, if not the whole ice kingdom (I call it ice kingdom because it’s ice related, and has penguins).
1:51 Chris Pratt/Mario: What is this place...? Bob Hoskins/Mario: What is this place? I think they said this line since they entered a new world the first time.
I always knew the visuals were gonna carry the movie. The world design for Mario was always _insanely_ amazing. It's one of the most unique and fun worlds in gaming, so the movie looking this stunning isn't a surprise; i'm just glad the voicework is pretty good as well.
looks just like the mushroom world from sonic movie. and if you think about it mario also crossesover to the real world in odyssey. so i can see a mario x sonic movie coming.
This movie looks better than I thought it would. The animation is gorgeous and Jack Black is killing it as Bowser. I'm still not sure on Chris Pratt being Mario though.
Idk about killing it. He delivers the lines great but his voice is pretty high still. I wish they digitally made his voice a bit lower. Not too much but just a bit.
Yeah... I was expecting him to do something resembling just a tiny bit of Charles Martinet. Just a little, or at least a tiny hint of italian accent, c'mon Chris Pratt, ever played Mario or any of the hundreds of games he's been in??
it kinda sounds like they went the Brooklyn accent from the live action rather than an Italian accent. Might make it more tolerable. Only time, and more trailers, will tell.
The attention to detail on this is INSANE. You can sense the leather on Mario’s clothes, the roughness of bowser’s skin, The fur on the penguins. This is AWESOME. Mad props for illumination for pulling out this masterpiece. Can’t wait for the Movie!
Ahh this is perfect. Cartoonish but realistic shading and texturing. Stylized but not too far a departure from the source. And the voice acting works quite well!
This whole thing looks so stunning, Jack Black sounds so alive as Bowser and is giving a stellar performance, and then there’s Chris Pratt who doesn’t even bother changing up his voice. I have a good feeling about Luigi and Peach, tho.
Jack blacks voice as bowser is actually really impressive. At first, I couldn't hear it because I'm used to him having silly roles. But now, it's sounds intimidating and slightly comedic. I still don't know how to feel about chris Pratt as mario though, but I still feel it's gonna be a really good movie.
@@BionicDirector117 Well it doesn't sound convincing enough. Don't get me wrong I want it to succeed but I need it to bit a little bit thicker like in show. And to be clear I do love the show, I think they did a great job with accent and loved the chemistry in show. So all I am saying is I hope Pratt hones his skills a little bit more to bring the character from a different world to life . Also wanted to add Jack black did pretty well, I just wish his voice was a little bit more deeper like in Mario Galaxy. It would be more intimidating.
@@jamessmilus321 it's better than no relevant accent at all. I'd be a little disappointed if Christ Pratt doesn't put effort into Mario's accent for the majority of the movie.
Yeah remember when Nintendo pulled away from high performing console development and compensated with an innovative gimmick to the console? Mario would look like this if it wasn't for that.
These graphics often take minutes to render a frame, while games can afford at MOST 8 milliseconds(30 FPS). Games won't be looking like this until we can shove an RTX 8090 TI into a Switch.
3 things: 1) Bowser looks amazing. 2) His voice is also amazing 3) Mario looks better than I imagined I'll be back 10 years later when this is nostalgic and remembered 😍❤
@@AuraBoiii live action has its place, but generally, most things are not suited to being a live action story. and in a world where Giant fire breathing Turtles exist and are king. yeah. thats not something Live action does well. also, realism is rarely what people want out of a live action adaptation. they just want CGI. basically. Animated features with the graphics setting turned up to the hidden insane setting. a movie like the trailer shows is just things playing on ultra settings.
I think if they did they would do much better doing a live action movie now than before they didn't have the tech or cgi to actually bring the Video game-accurate for browser or the Koopas I mean nintendo has every right again as long they give all the characters accurate designs
Its been 30 years since Nintendo's disastrous first attempt at a Mario Bros Movie and now they to finally decide to have another shot at it. I bet seeing how well the Sonic movies have done as of late might have inspired someone at Nintendo to give Mario and Luigi another shot a the big screen success.
Man, this looks fun. Obviously Chris Pratt isn't the best choice for Mario, but it'll still be a passable performance. This definitely looks like a movie that Kids will absolutely love, and adults will still enjoy.
@@Siegfried5846 yeah not too much "stick to the original"...who tf cares? It's a new movie It's mario and it has actually voice acting than the normal yahoo or growling
2:03 I can't help but hope his intonations at the end of words would go UP instead of down. Thinking of Mario's "HeeeRE wE gOOO" is a far cry from such a "MUSHroom KING-dom, HEre We COme" delivery. That alone would do quite a bit. I also understand the argument that this world would've had tons of aspiring voice actors to cast... but I guess Chris Pratt's star power is more important. At the end of the day though, won't matter too much and no amount of feedback will change it now.
This actually looks really good, I didn’t have any complaints until I heard Mario. He doesn’t sound bad, but since Mario has such an iconic voice, it’s weird to expect that but get something completely different. I’m still gonna watch it though because it’s not a deal breaker for me
it makes sense in lore as Mario had a new York accent as ge lived in new York before be became the plumber we all know after arriving in the mushroom kingdom
@@livingglowstick1337 but there's 1:51 which practically sounds like there's no accent at all and is kinda out of character, I wish they could've gotten the original Super Mario Super Show VA to come back honestly.
The voices of the of characters is amazing Because it's way different then how it normally sounds it will be a new experience just like the sonic movie
Well I think we know what Illumination’s most successful movie will be lol. This looks amazing! The score is a nice remake of original songs, the animation is some of the best I’ve ever seen, and the voice acting is overall really good! (Especially Bowser and Kamek)
Kamek is voiced by a veteran voice actor, Kevin Michael Richardson. You may recognize him as Gantu from Lilo and Stitch. As for Bowser, yes, Jack Black is killing it.
@@gravityx3 Again you are hypocrite saying that while not complaining about Spongebob's voice or Morty's or Bubbles's from PPG for that matter all 3 have even high pitches and had a whole movie too.
Wow. Since 86 I've been looking at these boys. To see them finally get a bleeding tech animation. Perfect for Mushroom Kingdom. Still, I love 1990s Mario Bros movie. Love the gloom and doom of it.
The animation and effects for this movie looks amazing. Jack Black really killed it with Bowsers voice! But certain voices are missing a bit of that Italian accent, no?
The voice acting is actually pretty suprising. Unlike alot of recent animated films that use popular actors, here they seem more intent on how the characters sound. Chris Pratt works well, because he seems to be trying to replicate mario without compying Charles. The only person I think wont, and probably should, stay the same is Day as Luigi.
@@re1010 I think i was expecting them to just use their natural voice without really putting any character into which would have been really strange. Jack Black as Bowser sounds pretty dang good because he's changing his voice some. However I'm dreading hearing Seth Rogan, I can't stand him.
@@easternunit2009 first off, I dont think Mario's voice can work extensively. They needed to get a voice that would sound happy, but can be toned down. Second, so far it sound good, but we need to see some extensive dialogue to see how it works.
Nintendo and Illumination are at the top of their game with this trailer, and it sets good expectations for this film. I have a feeling that this might be the new beginning of the NCU that most of us anticipated!
