Steph Curry's off-ball movement is probably his greatest skill, other than his shooting. Trae does not move unless the ball is in his hands. It drags down his shooting efficiency (you are always most open when you catch the ball), and it makes it much, much easier for defenses to account for him. I'd be really interested to see how the Hawks would work if he went absolutely crazy with his conditioning and got his off-ball game in shape.
That is my favourite thing from Curry that I try to emulate in my game. He is always running circles without the ball and getting himself free, so if you do not follow him all the time, he needs a part of a second to release a shot
@@fortynights1513 yes all the time, he also uses his gravity running around to distract the defenders and maybe create space to others using their fear against him
@@bassmin954 Whenever I play ball, I tend to just make it apparent that I'm looking to pass to a cutter, and it's flabbergasting how easy it is for my team to score with even the most basic backdoor cuts.
Conditioning isn't Trae's issue, they just have never had the same kind of motion offense Steph has had with Steve Kerr. These guys don't just freelance and run around in circles off-ball, they run set plays with often 2 screeners to get Steph open for a catch-and-shoot rep. Quin will likely involve more motion offense into their playbook next season, but it's really too soon for the Hawks to start running some of the more complicated plays Quin ran in Utah. But even when they do, there will be plays where Trae will be in the corner and uninvolved offensively, but the same is true for Steph, every team does this with their high volume stars, Celtics do this heavily.
I wouldn't say so. While there is no doubt Trae is a star. The issue is his capability of being a big factor on a championship caliber. While he can have games like these, he can also not show up offensively other nights and when he does so, he doesn't offer a lot else.
A couple definitions I’ve heard of “superstar” players in the NBA are the following: “A player who can be the number one player on a championship team, but this player doesn’t have to have proven that.” - Rusty Buckets “A player who can perennially finish top five in the MVP vote.” - Legend of Winning
@@BloodlessWolfThe thing is Luka is not though he play fine sometimes sub-par defense in regular season but in the playoffs he play SOLID defense and that’s not just from eyes test, it also supported by the numbers and to make my point clear Trey is the WORST defender in the NBA and yes out of every player that qualified he is No.1 worst defensive player and Luka is not even in the top50 worst defender so you can’t really named him because of that
@@BloodlessWolfoh D.Book also in top5 worst defenders. You can’t just says someone’s name and just because you think they are the worst defender doesn’t means anything without FACTS😂
Okay, fact is Luka was ranked 440th out of 539 players on defense as of the end of last year. On transition defense, statistically, he is the worst player in the history of the NBA.
I can tell this dude hasn’t watched a single hawks game this year just by him saying trae doesn’t even try on defense. If you’ve seen a single hawks game, you can tell trae actually tries on defense. He has active hands, doesn’t just let dudes drive by him without at least swiping for the ball and is taking charges. Is he the best defender? Absolutely not, but he definitely gives effort.
The problem with the Hawks are players not meeting their contract expectations. John Collins went from a 20 and 10 guy to an below average power forward. Deandre Hunter also had high expectations that he hasn’t met. Alongside with terrible coaching by Nate McMillan, it’s hard to succeed with all that. I think under a full off season under Snyder and a few changes to the roster, this Hawks team can look like the team from two years ago.
Yeah, Trae isn't the problem. It's totally fine for your first option to have the worst shooting efficiency rating on your team... That's what winning basketball looks like..
@@mitchtherevolution Y'all just be making shit up fr. Trae had a higher true shooting % this year than DeAndre Hunter and Dejounte Murray. He ain't even the least efficient player in his starting lineup.
@@xylynthian753 TS% is just effective field goal percentage, plus free throws. Every single player on the team has a better eFG, by a wide margin. Yes, he is really good at flopping and drawing fouls and he is a pretty good free throw shooter.
As a hawks fan ion think we trade Trae tbh it all comes down to Quinn he has a say in it as well it’s his contract. His chemistry with Trae looks way better than Trae chemistry with Nate nd pierce
If I'm the hawks I'm trying to get a 2nd star and also a wing player and improvement for backup point guard. This team has potential and the guys they have.
I feel like the Hawks and Mavs are basically identical. Obviously the modern iterations of those teams will always be bound by the draft trade, but both teams have the same problems: -Have a ball-dominant star that can't defend -Let one conference final run get into their head - where their second round win was less "team b beats team a" and more "team a's dysfunction leads them to beat themselves", and both had new coaches that year as well (McMillan as interim, Kidd as permanent) -Made a win-now move (Dejounte and Kyrie) that didn't actually raise their ceiling when that conference final run proved a fluke (granted, Dejounte wasn't anywhere near as bad as the Kyrie deal, and it's less what the Mavs got than it is what they gave up) Obviously Atlanta is in a stronger position than Dallas, but it's eerie.
He acts like trae didnt get injured in the conference finals and ignores how the hawks were without their best wing defender hunter in the entire playoffs
Thank you if Atlanta trade Trae it would be another dumb decision by this organization we have an all star backcourt who’s been playing with a newly hired coach for what 3 months maybe let’s trade JC/Hunter nd get a dawg mentality player nd we are top 6 seed at worst!
I think the best fit for Trae would be toronto. They desperately need a real offensive weapon and they have the defensive players to hide his weaknesses. Not sure what the package would look like but it would likely be his best fit
Trae is honestly on one of the most porly constructed rosters in the league. Murray and his talents overlap, surrounded by non shooters, both starting forwards are below average, and the team doesnt play defense. Whatever the market for trae is it’s probably still going to be a lot.
I beg to differ. Huge reason why Huerter is doing better with the Kings than his time with the Hawks. Because Huerter gets to show off his passing/handles with a dynamic big man passer like Sabonis. They can play 2 man screen games and use that action and spacing to get guys like Fox and the other shot makers in positions to make a play. How is DeAndre Hunter going to show his passing skills when him, Murray and Collins get to sit in their spots and watch Trae and a big play screen games 80% to start their half court sets? Worse yet Trae isn't even making an impact playing off ball which would make passing the ball around a lot more reasonable. You can see it too when Trae brings up the ball as oppose to Murray bringing it up which his playmaking is less rigid.
@@t4d0W that is coaching issue primarily. Most of those issue will probably be alleviated next season when they get a new playbook. Off ball plays don’t happen often without plays being ran for them.
I left this video to catch the ending of the Celtics game he did it to them 💀 actions speak louder than words, stats, and RU-vid videos tonight Young is king 👑
Eliminated at home in the first round. 28 shot attempts, trash efficiency. 32.1 FG% 33.3 3pt% 5 turn overs Box -11 Yeah, that's exactly what I expected.
McCollum, Alverado, 2023 pelicans first and a 2024 Mil 1st for Trae Young. Pelicans get a star that fits the BI/ Zion timeline that can take the pressure off of possibly losing Zion. Hawks stay competitive and get some future assets.
that team will stink without him. I would ask murray how he liked tonigihts game but he was too busy shoving refs nearly killing the season. Young just bailed them out
It makes zero sense for the Hawks to trade Trae mainly for future picks, since the picks they owe and the Murray situation puts them in win-now mode. That leaves Brooklyn out of the running, since they really only have one player with enough trade value, and he's too valuable to trade away. Maybe there could be interest in a high lottery pick this year and some other solid additions with upside, but realistically another star would be more likely the only return the Hawks would accept.
As a Hawks fan, it's disappointing to have gone through a painful rebuild only to have an expensive mediocre team. I feel like they're stuck in their situation with Trae's super max contract, no room for Murray's contract that expires after next season and many of their first round picks owed to the Spurs. They also have two young former players at GM who don't have a lot experience at the position. I think the best thing they can hope for is to trade Trae for as many future first round picks and maybe a young player or two in return.
Trae isn’t the problem by a long mile. This team has been grossly under-coached from the day Trae got drafted. Lloyd Pierce is a terrible coach and while Nate was better you haven’t seen any improvement/development with any of the players drafted here. Somehow Trae became the scapegoat because he is limited on defense. Also,…This Aged HORRIBLY🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂😂
@@trvspvrk one year? He got Dallas to the WCF last year bud 😂 Brunson obviously should of made the All Star game this year as well but he was snubbed for some weird reason since the media has a bias against the Knicks. You got to be blind or just don't watch the games to think that Trae Young is a better player than Brunson. It's actually insane how deep of a bag Brunson has and the year he had this year is just the type of player that he is and everyone knows that now.. Brunson is easily a top 5 PG and can fit on almost any team unlike Trae who needs many things built around him.
@@tj5180? Brunson is easily the better and more valuable player 😂 every team in the NBA would rather have Jalen Brunson and you are just blind and or delusional if you think anything otherwise. What does the dude have to do to prove that to you bums? He's a top 5 PG and all the numbers and eye tests back that up.
@@EDTheOneable who said Brunson was a bad player he’s just not a better player then trae. He’s not better then guys like curry, Luka, fox, ja, garland and Hali and dame you can also include harden. Trae is a better scorer and passer also took his team to the ecf in 2021 what else do you want to prove ?
I have news for you the Miami Heat would want him we can't go another offseason without getting another star and our SG position is easy to fill because we always can find snipers at anytime. Miami is a defensive team unlike Atlanta so Miami can makeup for Trae Young's lack of Defense.
I like it as a fit but I honestly think Miami would be better off giving Austin Reaves 20 million and running him as their go to guard next to Herro. Eric Spoelstra is a wizard but he is not afraid to boot guys from lineups if they don’t buy in defensively
@@Adbar10XDabsolutely not Pat Riley and Jimmy Butler cannot afford that. We promised Jimmy another star and we have yet to give him that signing Austin Reeves instead of Trae young is a slap in the face to Jimmy Butler. Jimmy is running out of time father time is real.
Let's be honest here. The team around Trae sucks. The Hawks are mediocre at best. Murray is a solid player, but him & Trae equals a small backcourt. Plus, Murray isn't good enough to be a second option for a contender. The Hawks need to surround Trae with better defensive minded players & another wing player that can reliably create his own shot. This team sucks & don't say Young is overrated when KD couldn't even get a game off this Celtics team. If Hawks build around Murray, they're immediately going back to the lottery for the next 2-3 years.
Trae for Towns. Straight up swap. Ant, Trae and Rudy would be scary in the west. And Towns, Murray would be a cool duo, maybe trade Capela or Collins for a 3rd guy
Maybe Trae isn’t a plug and play Curry-type no matter your roster. Oh wait, nobody but Curry is. I’m not giving up on Trae until this current Atlanta roster is done being retooled. Murray, Hunter, Bey, Griffin, and Bogdanovic are all great options at the 2-4. Collins is a clunky fit and neither he or Trae benefits from the other that much. Clint Capela is just a juiced up Biyombo, clumsy old school big with no bag. A roster truly constructed around Trae top to bottom would be a force to compete with. Imagine how lethal atlanta could be with front court guys like Herb Jones, Claxton, McDaniels, Carter Jr. etc
Wonder if Trae for Towns makes sense -- Hawks can ship out Capela (their defense wasn't that good) and shipping out Trae and starting Dejounte/ Bogdan/ Hunter/ Collins/ KAT can make for a good group with help around Towns. Wolves have the 18th ranked defense and 13th ranked offense but their spacing doesn't work; getting Trae can jumpstart their offense further while Gobert can be the man helping out defensively without coexisting next to Towns. Both have lengthy, big $ contracts.
There’s got to be a point where Trae himself is more valuable than whatever they could get back. He’s 24 years old and still a 28 and 10 guy, before this year he was gaining efficiency every year. Give them a year under Snyder. At some point I would rather compete for the second round 45 win type thing every year with Trae than be absolutely awful and hope to one day be better
His offensive efficiency also fell off a fucking cliff this year. Ending with a 30 point performance on 28 shots in a home game elimination. Fucking embarrassing that anyone thinks he will ever be good enough to lead a championship caliber team.
If the Wolves trade KAT (which I think they should), they should be going after versatile wings that can shoot a little and not get abused on defense. Ant is their franchise guy and they got solid contributions from Mike Conley, who they should bring back on a smaller deal.
He said Trae can be a "helpful" player. Sir you are the biggest Trae Young Hater/Luka Prom Date on RU-vid. There is no reporting saying that they are ready to move on from Trae. Don't lose credibility because of your disdain for Trae.
If the nets could get him for no crucial players I could see real potential there but who knows if they’re even interested. He could be useful for a few teams but it just depends what players they’d have to give up in return.
If the Nets trade for him, Mikal Bridges is gonna get turned into a 3 and D wing again. Trae dominates the ball too much he needs some off-ball so he can play beside others better.
@@saibotshawdow5090 Blud has the right idea. Until Trae develops some off-ball skills he will force almost everyone he plays with into a shooter or lob threat. I don't think the way he plays currently can lead the Hawks to a chip.
I doubt the Utah Jazz will have any interest in trading for Trae Young. He doesn't fit the mold of the type of player Danny Ainge wants to acquire. Plus, his salary - at $40+ million a season - is going to kill most trades. I do, however, agree that Atlanta is going to have to accept less than they want, if they are going to move on from him.
Hot take: raptors should make a push for him if they don’t keep van vleet. He’d be a good fit with all the solid shooting wings in Toronto especially if Toronto can add a better centre who can draw help in the pick and roll with Trae and Toronto’s zone heavy defense would help hide his shortcomings on that end
I think he could benefit the raptors and Boston. Both team plays relatively large wings in their line ups. I think the raptors especially could use an upgrade from an offensive aspect. Murray honestly is a better fit for pg in Atlanta rn. Imo
Sure keep the average talent on the team never make the playoffs and blame it all on trae in retro. Sixers did the same with Iverson. Oh yeah murray is a problem when he nearly kills their season because he has a beef with a ref. Young saved them tonight and there are desperate people trying to claim otherwise. By the way young was hurt in the 2021 ecf too but played through it. Hawks didn't win games without Giannis in there either. Sixers did choke but young killed them too
Take a look at the top dozen or so scorers in the league and ask yourself who hasn't consistently gone deep in the playoffs. Note what they all have in common - they play no defense.
He needs to put on the weight and start playing defense. Devin Booker, SGA, and Ant are a few players who used to put minimal effort on D and are now + to elite defenders. Fred Vanvleet is also another example of an elite defensive gaurd who lacks in size, so it can be done, it all depends on how much Trae wants it. Trae Young as a 2 way talent is arguably a top 5 player in the league.
Remember when trae young led the league in points and assists in the same season? Trae isn’t the problem. He’s the second best scoring guard in the league and he’s clutch as fuck. You’re trashing his defense. I’ve seen worse. Get real he’s a top top 10 pg in the league if not a top 5
